Storm
Ever bored with the vanilla weather? Storm is a plugin that adds a whole new range of weather mechanics to Bukkit servers.
Features
- Acid Rain: Green rain, which damages players and animals, as well as deteriorates blocks. Turn a 'grey day' into a 'radioactive-green' day!
- Blizzards: Makes snow a real threat! Players and entities caught outside during a blizzard will experience snow acting as slow sand, limited visibility, and cold damage, so long as they are not inside or near a heating block.
- Thunder Storms: If supercharged creepers were not already a threat, how will your players react to hordes of zombie pigmen? Thunder storms are massive discharges of lightning over a short period of time, in which players will be hard-pressed to survive.
- Meteors: Fireballs trailed by explosions, burrowing in the ground, and flattening all entities in their path. Players who survive, however, can delight themselves with the ores the meteor leaves behind.
- Wildfires: We can all safely say vanilla fires are boring. To spice up the game, we've added wildfires; a naturally occurring event in which entire forests will be devoured by fire with pre-1.6B physics.
- Earthquakes: With massive rifts opening up, screens shaking, and blocks flying about, Storm earthquakes will be an experience for your players to remember. Seems to be bugging in Version2.3
- Volcanoes: Large mounds of lava spurting out of the ground, explosions and flying lava bombs. Fun, fun, fun. Seems to be bugging in Version2.3
Getting started with Storm
If you are a visual learner, this video by WoopaGaming is for you! Some information is outdated, but the gist remains the same.
You can gain some more in-depth information from this "Curse Minecraft Spotlight" on Storm, as it presents most of the features of Storm in a nice format. Thanks to Xenius01 of Curse for this one!
Storm has a command for all its weather types:
Command | Usage | Permission | Description |
---|---|---|---|
/acidrain | /<command> [world] | storm.acidrain.command | Starts acid rain in specified world. |
/blizzard | /<command> [world] | storm.blizzard.command | Starts a blizzard in specified world. |
/thunderstorm | /<command> [world] | storm.thunderstorm.command | Starts a thunder storm in specified world. |
/wildfire | /<command> [world] | storm.wildfire.command | Starts a wildfire where player is looking at. |
/meteor | /<command> [world] | storm.meteor.command | Spawns a meteor and targets the block the player is looking at. |
/volcano | /<command> [world] | storm.volcano.command | Spawns a volcano at the targeted block. |
/earthquake | /<command> [world] | storm.earthquake.command | Spawns a earthquake at the targeted block. |
/cracks | /<command> [world] | storm.earthquake.command | Spawns a crevice at the targeted block. |
And immunity permissions from their associated weathers:
Immunity | Permission | Description |
---|---|---|
Acid Rain Damage | storm.acidrain.immune | Prevents damage from acid rain. |
Blizzard Damage | storm.blizzard.immune | Prevents damage from blizzards. |
Lightning Attraction | storm.lightning.immune | Prevents extra damage from lightning & lightning attraction. |
Meteor Damage | storm.meteor.immune | Prevents damage from meteor shockwaves. |
If Storm doesn't load, first, make sure that you are running a compatible build of Storm. For example, 0.1.2 will run only on Bukkit 1.4.6, while 0.1.2 R1 will only run on 1.4.7. You can see the supported versions in the Files menu. If that doesn't work or Storm throws exceptions, leave a ticket.
When asking for support...
...please answer the following questions: they help us get back to you quicker and consequently address any issues faster.
- What Storm version are you running? Be specific.
- What server implementation are you running (usually CraftBukkit)?
- What Minecraft version are you running?
- What is the issue you are experiencing?
- Provide a traceback, if the issue is a crash and a log is available.
@Icynene
go ahead. Its for the better. You might want to add somthing on it to the post in case it happens to someone else though.
@theepicmeh
Yep :P Now that this has resolved, mind if I delete all the comments relating to this? Its a page full of them :)
@theepicmeh
Yep! Hehe. The config is a bit intimidating, I must admit. The new version that hammale and I are working on will have a much smaller configuration, and after this project comes out of experimental status I will get a Configuration page set up. If you want, PM me which parts you need help on.
Hey man can you set up somthing to help with the config? i dont understand it one bit.
@seanth
Then I guess the default configuration IS good in your case :P
This plugin is everything I could have hoped for! The server I run is getting ready to start a new world to make best use of the 1.3.1 update and it's really going to be an end of the world sort of situation. For the next few weeks there will be meteors, and acid rain that dissolves every single block. The world will slowly disappear until we evac to the new world.
So much fun!
@lcynene
Can you add tsunamis? ( It is an earthquake which causes him he has 1/10 that an earthquake near the water causes one tsunamis. )
Good evening, me believes that I have a problem with the configuration bug, otherwise that has to work:). In any case great work !
@seanth
Hmm... So BukkitDev does not show files if the project is still in experimental? That is strange... Nevertheless, I have updated the link and I guarantee it will work :)
@semistro
Good idea! For implementation ease purposes, I think I'll narrow it down to: When they are in snow without clothes. Because then I could use the same framework I am using for making snow slow you down, snow getting trampled, etc. Besides, there really wouldn't be a place where they can hide from the snow: trees have snow under them. This + slow snow = dangerous tundras. I like it :D
what you think of the feature that if players walk in snowstorm without clothes they get frozen and get hit once in the ???? seconds.
I think I am being blind. I can't find a place to download the dev version, and the download link looks like it is dead. Help?
@tonidu28
Danggit! I swear I fixed that bug days ago! Took a look at the source, seems like my changes were overwritten by Github. Regardless, I fixed it and uploaded Storm 0.0.2B
On a more general note, I've been playing with meteors for the past 4 hours, and I still haven't gotten bored.
Good evening, you have a problem at the level of the configuration, me puts the world which I wants not to put or I tries to deactivate the acid rain and as soon as I back up and as soon as I restart my server the configuration returns to its original which revives the acid rain and changes all the configurations which I made
Looks interesting, will add it to my server tonight.
New Bukkit build contains a function for making any block fly like sand. This would make for epic volcanoes. On another note, we are 80% done wildfires, and 50% done the snow-slows-you-down-and-gets-trampled.
@iKeirNez
Added as of 0.0.2Alpha, to disable a type of weather just make its allowedWorlds equal "" instead of "world" etc.
That looks awesome, will you be adding the ability to toggle each kind of weather?
Thanks for the support everyone!
We are now in the position to give you another update. While not even close to having all the features of a release, it is finally a plugin you can run on your server properly.
Storm 0.0.02Alpha introduces a massive, but simple to understand configuration, multiworld support, meteors, better lightning, and of course, MC 1.3.1 support.
Now, we are a little bit crazy, so so are the default configuration values. Therefore, we suggest you tweak the configuration before actually putting it up on a production server, for a couple of reasons:
Well, you get the point. Note that a lot of the nodes of the configuration are for upcoming features, and are useless, such as storm.snow.trampable.*
A couple more important notes:
I swear this is the last bit of notes:
what about floods or tornadosor earth quakes?
Lightning has just about been completed so expect a release soon!
