Storm
Ever bored with the vanilla weather? Storm is a plugin that adds a whole new range of weather mechanics to Bukkit servers.
Features
- Acid Rain: Green rain, which damages players and animals, as well as deteriorates blocks. Turn a 'grey day' into a 'radioactive-green' day!
- Blizzards: Makes snow a real threat! Players and entities caught outside during a blizzard will experience snow acting as slow sand, limited visibility, and cold damage, so long as they are not inside or near a heating block.
- Thunder Storms: If supercharged creepers were not already a threat, how will your players react to hordes of zombie pigmen? Thunder storms are massive discharges of lightning over a short period of time, in which players will be hard-pressed to survive.
- Meteors: Fireballs trailed by explosions, burrowing in the ground, and flattening all entities in their path. Players who survive, however, can delight themselves with the ores the meteor leaves behind.
- Wildfires: We can all safely say vanilla fires are boring. To spice up the game, we've added wildfires; a naturally occurring event in which entire forests will be devoured by fire with pre-1.6B physics.
- Earthquakes: With massive rifts opening up, screens shaking, and blocks flying about, Storm earthquakes will be an experience for your players to remember. Seems to be bugging in Version2.3
- Volcanoes: Large mounds of lava spurting out of the ground, explosions and flying lava bombs. Fun, fun, fun. Seems to be bugging in Version2.3
Getting started with Storm
If you are a visual learner, this video by WoopaGaming is for you! Some information is outdated, but the gist remains the same.
You can gain some more in-depth information from this "Curse Minecraft Spotlight" on Storm, as it presents most of the features of Storm in a nice format. Thanks to Xenius01 of Curse for this one!
Storm has a command for all its weather types:
Command | Usage | Permission | Description |
---|---|---|---|
/acidrain | /<command> [world] | storm.acidrain.command | Starts acid rain in specified world. |
/blizzard | /<command> [world] | storm.blizzard.command | Starts a blizzard in specified world. |
/thunderstorm | /<command> [world] | storm.thunderstorm.command | Starts a thunder storm in specified world. |
/wildfire | /<command> [world] | storm.wildfire.command | Starts a wildfire where player is looking at. |
/meteor | /<command> [world] | storm.meteor.command | Spawns a meteor and targets the block the player is looking at. |
/volcano | /<command> [world] | storm.volcano.command | Spawns a volcano at the targeted block. |
/earthquake | /<command> [world] | storm.earthquake.command | Spawns a earthquake at the targeted block. |
/cracks | /<command> [world] | storm.earthquake.command | Spawns a crevice at the targeted block. |
And immunity permissions from their associated weathers:
Immunity | Permission | Description |
---|---|---|
Acid Rain Damage | storm.acidrain.immune | Prevents damage from acid rain. |
Blizzard Damage | storm.blizzard.immune | Prevents damage from blizzards. |
Lightning Attraction | storm.lightning.immune | Prevents extra damage from lightning & lightning attraction. |
Meteor Damage | storm.meteor.immune | Prevents damage from meteor shockwaves. |
If Storm doesn't load, first, make sure that you are running a compatible build of Storm. For example, 0.1.2 will run only on Bukkit 1.4.6, while 0.1.2 R1 will only run on 1.4.7. You can see the supported versions in the Files menu. If that doesn't work or Storm throws exceptions, leave a ticket.
When asking for support...
...please answer the following questions: they help us get back to you quicker and consequently address any issues faster.
- What Storm version are you running? Be specific.
- What server implementation are you running (usually CraftBukkit)?
- What Minecraft version are you running?
- What is the issue you are experiencing?
- Provide a traceback, if the issue is a crash and a log is available.
Announcement:
I have received, to date, 7 requests asking for whirlwinds. My response has ALWAYS been the same:
Whirlwinds are a great idea, but are impossible (or at least very impractical) to do with the current MC/Bukkit API. Let me break it down:
On the topic of videos:
@Tobias2289
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KL4dCPG7t-4&feature=related ? Also a video of this plugin would be great. Would rather see a preview before downloading... idk if you could do anything similar to the video above or not but looks great.
I cannot wait for earthquakes, I have yet to find many plugins that use the players fov to do cool stuff. Also, this is the first plugin (at least that I have noticed) to use the new server to client texture changer thing. I am waiting to download until the earthquakes arrive.......
@warezme
Thanks!
1. The snow not allowing to jump is intended. You can't jump in snow... You say that the snow has its slowing effects even when its not blizzarding? I'll have to take a look into that, then.
2. You see there meteor (a trail of explosions, see the Images tab to see one), and also the result. Just do /meteor and see!
3. Its been a heavily requested feature. I don't know how I would add it, though.
4. What do you mean?
A really good idea :) Need to enhance that for a maximum pleasure !
1. But i have a little problem .. when snow low is active without blizzard and when a player is on snow .. he is very low and he can't jump .. so I had to remove this feature for now :/
2. When a meteor come, we se the result or the meteor coming and the result ?
3. Need tornado's !!
4. Need flow of water when hard raining ..
See u
:D
yea well not sure what happend but i saw random fires in the the plains.. ill reinstall the plugin and report if it happens again.
@azot4o
Then one of three things is true:
1. You don't have the latest version of Storm
2. They caught fire from a lava pool
3. Your users are trolling you
There is no way (0% chance) that this could occur because of the latest version of Storm, as it is a simple if statement on startup, and that's it. Additionally it only lights forest biomes, not plains...
Wildfires: false
but the plains are still on fire >_<
@sehunpark
Thanks :3 Means alot. Storm uses Metrics to send usage stats, and I was surprised to find that 9 servers are still running Storm 0.0.1, probably the worst build of all :) Thanks once again for your kind words!
Ahh my bad.I used the plugin a while back and hadn't seen the new update.It works great :) Pretty minimum ram usage and cause pretty much 0 lag.I take back what I said below.Great plugin and great developer.Hope to see your plugin in the top list one day.
@sehunpark
There's lag caused by this plugin? :O. What do you mean? When does this lag occur? It is already quite optimized, and I tried not to use alot of memory-eating things. The things that MAY lag your server are meteors and wildfires, but that's it... I'm running it on a 6GB Java 7 Linux server, no lag. JuarezCause tests it frequently on a Windows 1GB server, and he only experiences lag on meteors and wildfires. What are your specs?
Any chances to optimize to plugin to make less lag on the server?
@Bomberboy123
Oh, BukkitDev appears to display the latest BETA build (0.0.2B) despite that there is a 0.0.4A... If you go into the Files tab you can get the latest release.
@Icynene are you sure? I just hit the download button at the top right corner, how do I get the latest? or is this a bug?
@Bomberboy123
If you are using the latest build (0.0.4A) they should only happen 8% chance, 1ce per hour. If you are using it and still same thing, please file a ticket. Pre 0.0.3 Storm had that issue.
@Bomberboy123
reduce the spawn chance under "meteor:" and increase the "recalculationDelayTicks:" if you put 1200= 60 seconds, 72000= 60 minutes = 3 days on minecraft
Holy crap, how do I edit how often meteors happen?? >.< I loaded the plugin they were happening every second! doing a lot of damage!!!
thank you, and I will be testing this to check for bugs and stuff. I am super excited for this plugin.
check your pm
@JuarezCause
1. Strange. Veeery strange. 2. OK! Do you have Skype or GMail etc? If so can you PM me one of them? Easier then PMing for conversations.
