Storm
Ever bored with the vanilla weather? Storm is a plugin that adds a whole new range of weather mechanics to Bukkit servers.
Features
- Acid Rain: Green rain, which damages players and animals, as well as deteriorates blocks. Turn a 'grey day' into a 'radioactive-green' day!
- Blizzards: Makes snow a real threat! Players and entities caught outside during a blizzard will experience snow acting as slow sand, limited visibility, and cold damage, so long as they are not inside or near a heating block.
- Thunder Storms: If supercharged creepers were not already a threat, how will your players react to hordes of zombie pigmen? Thunder storms are massive discharges of lightning over a short period of time, in which players will be hard-pressed to survive.
- Meteors: Fireballs trailed by explosions, burrowing in the ground, and flattening all entities in their path. Players who survive, however, can delight themselves with the ores the meteor leaves behind.
- Wildfires: We can all safely say vanilla fires are boring. To spice up the game, we've added wildfires; a naturally occurring event in which entire forests will be devoured by fire with pre-1.6B physics.
- Earthquakes: With massive rifts opening up, screens shaking, and blocks flying about, Storm earthquakes will be an experience for your players to remember. Seems to be bugging in Version2.3
- Volcanoes: Large mounds of lava spurting out of the ground, explosions and flying lava bombs. Fun, fun, fun. Seems to be bugging in Version2.3
Getting started with Storm
If you are a visual learner, this video by WoopaGaming is for you! Some information is outdated, but the gist remains the same.
You can gain some more in-depth information from this "Curse Minecraft Spotlight" on Storm, as it presents most of the features of Storm in a nice format. Thanks to Xenius01 of Curse for this one!
Storm has a command for all its weather types:
Command | Usage | Permission | Description |
---|---|---|---|
/acidrain | /<command> [world] | storm.acidrain.command | Starts acid rain in specified world. |
/blizzard | /<command> [world] | storm.blizzard.command | Starts a blizzard in specified world. |
/thunderstorm | /<command> [world] | storm.thunderstorm.command | Starts a thunder storm in specified world. |
/wildfire | /<command> [world] | storm.wildfire.command | Starts a wildfire where player is looking at. |
/meteor | /<command> [world] | storm.meteor.command | Spawns a meteor and targets the block the player is looking at. |
/volcano | /<command> [world] | storm.volcano.command | Spawns a volcano at the targeted block. |
/earthquake | /<command> [world] | storm.earthquake.command | Spawns a earthquake at the targeted block. |
/cracks | /<command> [world] | storm.earthquake.command | Spawns a crevice at the targeted block. |
And immunity permissions from their associated weathers:
Immunity | Permission | Description |
---|---|---|
Acid Rain Damage | storm.acidrain.immune | Prevents damage from acid rain. |
Blizzard Damage | storm.blizzard.immune | Prevents damage from blizzards. |
Lightning Attraction | storm.lightning.immune | Prevents extra damage from lightning & lightning attraction. |
Meteor Damage | storm.meteor.immune | Prevents damage from meteor shockwaves. |
If Storm doesn't load, first, make sure that you are running a compatible build of Storm. For example, 0.1.2 will run only on Bukkit 1.4.6, while 0.1.2 R1 will only run on 1.4.7. You can see the supported versions in the Files menu. If that doesn't work or Storm throws exceptions, leave a ticket.
When asking for support...
...please answer the following questions: they help us get back to you quicker and consequently address any issues faster.
- What Storm version are you running? Be specific.
- What server implementation are you running (usually CraftBukkit)?
- What Minecraft version are you running?
- What is the issue you are experiencing?
- Provide a traceback, if the issue is a crash and a log is available.
i keep getting an error or something not quite sure, on the console it keeps saying "Does contain?" making it impossible to me to make any command on the console and fills my log file so much it takes forever to load. Need help fast I want to try this mod!!
@chimpas2005
It has Multiworld support for ALL features. Its the Allowed Worlds section in the config.
@poonjab1_0
Meteors should already be worldguard-safe, not sure about acid rain or wildfires. Definitely going to be implemented by 0.0.6. For now, I'm working on a surprise for all of you, one that hasn't ever been done before.
Is it possible to make this plugin run only in one world?
Because on my server I have a normal Survival world and an Anarchy world and would like to only have the plugin affect the Anarchy world to add to the effect of the world theme.
love this idea! any way to hook it into worldguard to keep protected areas from being destroyed?
No whirlwinds ? Great jobs , otherwise very good work. I also managed to solve the problem of the configuration.
@seanth
But you can do that by setting meteor spawn chance to 100% and set recalculation delay ticks to whatever makes 8 MC nights.
I like it :3. It would be a simple enough thing to do: 95% of the acid rain code could be reused.
A request: a command from the console to turn on/off various disasters would be great. I'd love to have an externally running cron job turn on meteors when the moon phase in game is new, so there's death from on high every 8 minecraft nights.
I have not tested the newest version, but do I understand correctly there's no way to increase the frequency of meteors? If that is so, I'd like an option to do so. 1/hr doesn't sound terrifying enough. :)
Idea: Climate change. Once upon a time there was a plugin called something like PlantSpreader that allowed you to have block types to spread. I was working on a series of block replacements so players could either promote or inhibit desertification. So grass to dirt to sand or gravel. I can imagine ways to make acid rain accomplish this in biomes where it rains, but not in actual desert biomes.
Today is a big day for us on the Storm team!
Today we are proud to release Storm 0.0.4A, and officially make this project's status Alpha.
Changelog for 0.0.4A:
CRITICAL
MAJOR
MINOR
A few things about blizzards and wildfires:
Conclusion:
Storm 0.0.4A makes Minecraft snowfalls deadly, and droughts capable of griefing wooden houses.
As always, thanks for using Storm!
@telephonekiosk
I have just uploaded Storm 0.0.3A now. It has a completely redone config, which I doubt any explanation is needed for.
Some small notes:
@telephonekiosk
Yep. Doing it now would be a waste, though, as just in 0.0.3 we eliminated 20 config nodes, as to make it simpler. As soon as we have a more-or-less definitive config we will. This is what 0.0.3's config looks like: http://pastie.org/4556425. Please tell me if anyone wants to change anything and / or it still is confusing. We tried our best to shrink it down. Its gone from 5KB in size to 2KB.
@Zodurus
That was planned for "solar storms" :D
I have an idea,
You could actually make ice melt together with the "Wildfires" effect and make small bodies of water dry up layer by layer. That would be good. :)
Could you post a config example/tutorial/whateveryouwannacallit wherein you explain in detail what each option in the config file does? I'm having a bit of trouble understanding how to edit it properly.
I like this plugin. Unique and very neat formatting. Hope to see more from it in the future. Could you inform me once it's done? :)
@azot4o
Thanks! Biome configuration is indeed a good idea, but there isn't (as far as I know) a way to store biomes in a config file. I could make each biome have a 'code', but I am not really sure how TerrainControl works. I think (just thinking) that they use pre-existing biomes, but use a different WGEN for it. So for example, a volcano biome could in fact have the same attributes as a desert biome, but looks different. Additionally, we could do piling snow + puddles by hand, but it would be tedious and CPU-consuming (like acid rain only much, much worse). It would help if thiswas accepted.
@tonidu28
Thanks :3
@lcynene
Great Job !!!
Awesome plugin! :) I'm eagerly waiting for the piling snow and puddles, and btw can you make it compatible with TerrainControl plugin? What i have in mind is for example my wasteland biome to have acid rain, but i don't want the other biomes to have it.
@Icynene
Thanks. I will keep it updated then. :D
@theepicmeh
Note the note: "Note not all images are of the current version of Storm" What you see in the image is impossible with Storm 0.0.2B, but possible with Storm 0.0.3A, which we have not yet released :). You can change the angle: change the pitch of it.
Your meteor was at an angle mine have all been straight down. Is there somthing i can do about that? And no matter what i set the tail power to it barely dents the surface.
@theepicmeh
Definitely will. I'll also add a check, and tell the user to adjust their configuration if it happens.
