Storm
Ever bored with the vanilla weather? Storm is a plugin that adds a whole new range of weather mechanics to Bukkit servers.
Features
- Acid Rain: Green rain, which damages players and animals, as well as deteriorates blocks. Turn a 'grey day' into a 'radioactive-green' day!
- Blizzards: Makes snow a real threat! Players and entities caught outside during a blizzard will experience snow acting as slow sand, limited visibility, and cold damage, so long as they are not inside or near a heating block.
- Thunder Storms: If supercharged creepers were not already a threat, how will your players react to hordes of zombie pigmen? Thunder storms are massive discharges of lightning over a short period of time, in which players will be hard-pressed to survive.
- Meteors: Fireballs trailed by explosions, burrowing in the ground, and flattening all entities in their path. Players who survive, however, can delight themselves with the ores the meteor leaves behind.
- Wildfires: We can all safely say vanilla fires are boring. To spice up the game, we've added wildfires; a naturally occurring event in which entire forests will be devoured by fire with pre-1.6B physics.
- Earthquakes: With massive rifts opening up, screens shaking, and blocks flying about, Storm earthquakes will be an experience for your players to remember. Seems to be bugging in Version2.3
- Volcanoes: Large mounds of lava spurting out of the ground, explosions and flying lava bombs. Fun, fun, fun. Seems to be bugging in Version2.3
Getting started with Storm
If you are a visual learner, this video by WoopaGaming is for you! Some information is outdated, but the gist remains the same.
You can gain some more in-depth information from this "Curse Minecraft Spotlight" on Storm, as it presents most of the features of Storm in a nice format. Thanks to Xenius01 of Curse for this one!
Storm has a command for all its weather types:
Command | Usage | Permission | Description |
---|---|---|---|
/acidrain | /<command> [world] | storm.acidrain.command | Starts acid rain in specified world. |
/blizzard | /<command> [world] | storm.blizzard.command | Starts a blizzard in specified world. |
/thunderstorm | /<command> [world] | storm.thunderstorm.command | Starts a thunder storm in specified world. |
/wildfire | /<command> [world] | storm.wildfire.command | Starts a wildfire where player is looking at. |
/meteor | /<command> [world] | storm.meteor.command | Spawns a meteor and targets the block the player is looking at. |
/volcano | /<command> [world] | storm.volcano.command | Spawns a volcano at the targeted block. |
/earthquake | /<command> [world] | storm.earthquake.command | Spawns a earthquake at the targeted block. |
/cracks | /<command> [world] | storm.earthquake.command | Spawns a crevice at the targeted block. |
And immunity permissions from their associated weathers:
Immunity | Permission | Description |
---|---|---|
Acid Rain Damage | storm.acidrain.immune | Prevents damage from acid rain. |
Blizzard Damage | storm.blizzard.immune | Prevents damage from blizzards. |
Lightning Attraction | storm.lightning.immune | Prevents extra damage from lightning & lightning attraction. |
Meteor Damage | storm.meteor.immune | Prevents damage from meteor shockwaves. |
If Storm doesn't load, first, make sure that you are running a compatible build of Storm. For example, 0.1.2 will run only on Bukkit 1.4.6, while 0.1.2 R1 will only run on 1.4.7. You can see the supported versions in the Files menu. If that doesn't work or Storm throws exceptions, leave a ticket.
When asking for support...
...please answer the following questions: they help us get back to you quicker and consequently address any issues faster.
- What Storm version are you running? Be specific.
- What server implementation are you running (usually CraftBukkit)?
- What Minecraft version are you running?
- What is the issue you are experiencing?
- Provide a traceback, if the issue is a crash and a log is available.
I really like this, can acid rain and others be disabled in the config.? and can you make it so in Snow Storms leather armor acts as like snow gear and you freeze faster in metal armor? Thanks.
This may be a dumb questions, but would sand storms be possible?
Me and my friend were talking about new weather last nice so it's awesome I found this. XD
For a sand storms it could work a lot like the blizzard you have already. Except I was wondering if you could change the way the partials blow? Like sideways kinda idk. XD
Also I was saying last night how sand blocks could build up on walls over time in the storm.
But, uh, this was all just me being weird last night and thinking up craziness.
Annnnyways, just a suggestion/idea. Awesome looking plugin btw. :3
@Zombiemold
:(. Fixed. I'll recompile and reupload Storm 0.0.7B. Its a silly bug... Shouldn't affect anything but wildfires.
@Davincivik
Its going to come, eventually :). Thanks for the offer! Thing is, every message is configurable already, so one can put whatever message they want, for everything. Thanks anyways!
This looks awesome! May I come with a suggestion?
Floods
Also, if you're planning to create multi-languages, I can help you with Norwegian translation.
Bookmarked! Going to test it out and see what my players think of it. :)
This is an amazing plugin. Started jumping for joy just watching the images. Thanks for this.
On a side note, error spam with 0.0.7B:

Storm 0.0.7B is now available!
This version addresses major issues with usability, reworks the configuration system, improves efficiency, and adds new commands. It has all the changes made in the unreleased 0.0.6A, but doesn't have the bugs. It is strongly recommended that you update to this build.
Changelog:
Due to world-dependent configuration, Storm will use more memory than previously, as it stores multiple configuration objects for each world. It shouldn't be noticeable, however.
This build of Storm also changes its framework on large scale, leading up to the introduction of NMS runtime modification.
Meteors have also been reworked to be more efficient, and should increase their performance by at lest 50%. No (or at least fewer) 1FPS moments!
This build of Storm is downloadable from here.
Thank you for using Storm!
It can't be the point, that /meteor completely strangles your FPS? I usually run 70 to 110 fps, now I'm down to 1.
Also, when I used it, the game lagged up after a few seconds, and then the client just closed, leaving no crash log.
Also, you should probably make a how-to section, listing all the commands, and such. :P
@grevinelveck
Piling snow hasn't been implemented yet. Please open up a ticket. Include your config (use pastie.org, NEVER pastebin), and your plugin list. Possibly also additional details etc. Flow is not needed for any features. Its simply something that has various features like making rain fill in bukkets etc, which adds to the feel of Storm. Note that such bugs occur if you added a new world without MultiVerse. Editing the worlds yml will make Storm fail dramatically.
@Turtwig13
I can't control fog without a custom client like Spoutcraft =/
The only thing that seems to be working right is meteor. No damage in blizzard, or acid rain no slow move in snow now block deterioration no snow piles. Am I having conflict or something? Or are these the features that flow is required for?
This Plugin is just awsome. Could you add something like fog or smoke too? Want to make a creepy world. Would be amazing!
@lastrachris
In the (unreleased as of yet) Storm 0.0.6B there is a /blizzard and /acidrain command. I can give you a preview, if you want, but it might not work properly.
@Icynene
I, sadly, found that out by accident ahaha, thanks anyways. Is there any way to force an event? Like, for example force a blizzard?
I haven't noticed the dissolving effect from the Acid Rain, I've set Blocks to deteriorate per calculation higher and lowered the interval in ticks and it still isn't noticeable to me. Am I doing something wrong? Everything else should be on default settings except Acid Rain chance being high to test this feature.
@warezme
1. Fixed in the next version :)
2. MAYBE :D
@lastrachris
If it is something like CreeperHeal, it doesn't operate on which entity caused it, but if it was an explosion. The meteor is a fireball that creates an explosion when it moves. Next version has Worldguard support as well.
I've been looking so long for a plugin like this. I'm glad someone has the same mind as me! Just a few questions though, when a meteor hits, is it the same entity as TNT? The reason I ask is I have an anti-griefing plugin that just regenerates all the blocks damaged by the TNT. I think it would be great to scare all my players, and even promote bomb shelters, but I don't want to have permanet damage to my town. Much thanks.
@Icynene
1. "You say that the snow has its slowing effects even when its not blizzarding?"
Yes :( I need to change config file for disable snow slow.
2. "What do you mean?" (for water flow)
Two possibility : FIRST, we can imagine that : http://www.sosclimat.ca/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/inondation.jpg (sorry i don't know the good word in english) when it's raining during x time.. SECOND, when u create u earthquake (great idea !), can u imagine collateral issue like tsunami ?
I like u job :p
@tarkus80
Thanks. Yes. EVERYTHING in this plugin should be configurable: that was one of the key ideas I had in mind while developing its base. Features.Force Weather Textures: true. Set that to false, and it won't force them.
The texture packs to enhance the "feel" of Storm. Acid rain is green, blizzards have denser snow etc. You can also change the path to these in the config file. You could make the Acid_Rain point to your HD TPack, but with the acidic rain.
looks realyl great, but might it be possible to disable the texturepacks? if i enable this mod, all my hd texturepacks are reseted to default :(
This is so awesome, I live in a huge snow biome, this is gonna roooooock
