Simple Prefix: Allows you to easily manage your chat with prefixes and suffixes.
This plugin uses prefixes and suffixes that are very easy to configure, from inside of an yml config file. You apply prefixes and suffixes per user or group in the /SimplePrefix/config.yml file.
Alternatively, Simple Prefix can be configured to get the prefixes and suffixes from Vault supported chat plugins instead (PermissionsEx, bPermissions, etc.)
You can fully alter the chat format. For example, you could achieve the following ingame:
- [Admin] Flabaliki: my message here
Or even, just completely mix and match the template to get the look you want.
A developer API is available to those who wish to access prefixes and suffixes and use them within their own plugin. Click "Metadata" above.
That's basically what this is, just a lightweight plugin for quickly getting your prefixes and suffixes to work, however you want.
Read the Configuration page for instructions on how to use the plugin.
Features:
- Uses permissions to apply prefixes and suffixes to selected users or groups.
- Alternatively, can use prefixes and suffixes from plugins supported by Vault.
- Formatting/color codes are fully supported.
- Configure the chat format to display however you want.
- Developer API for fetching prefixes and suffixes.
- Easy to use commands for adding / removing prefixes in game.
- Set prefixes and suffixes per group or per user.
- Plays nicely with Essentials /nick command.
- Option to allow multiple prefixes / suffixes, and a configurable separator which is placed between them to separate them.
- A prefix or suffix tier system (so that you can make multiple ranking ladders).
- UUID support
- Offline mode server support (using usernames instead of UUIDs)
- Factions chat tags support (read our Configuration page)
Installation:
- Place Simple Prefix.jar into your plugins folder
- Restart or reload your server
- Edit your config.yml (see here for info)
Please carefully read the Configuration page!

What people say about Simple Prefix:
"This was exactly what I was looking for! Simple and straight forward to use ... I think it took me about 5 minutes after reading over the directions to get it setup...and my users were instantly thankful and excited about their cool new fancy prefixes. Thanks for your efforts!" - GrumblyOldBear
"You're the best! Prior to simplePrefix I spent weeks looking for something that would do prefixes by permissions, and now that I find it, I get functionality AND quick support, as well as new features implemented! <3" - octoshrimpy
"Epic plugin!" - Bammerbom
"Great plugin! :)" - ThisUsernameIsMine
"oh thank god youre updating this...i love the concept of multiple prefixes. its what ive been looking for for a LOOONNNGGG time. im so glad i found this one and itd be awesome to have it updated" - SatansDaughter66 (Written when the 2.3 update was announced)
"Been using this for quite some time, and it's always served our needs well... Thanks for making an awesome plugin! - Islid
As of version 2.3.1, this plugin uses an automatic updater to check if you are running the latest version, and if not, it downloads the latest version. To disable this please set "Auto-Update" to "false" in the config.yml file.
@cuddyier
You can. Just remove them from the format.
Could you add the option to remove the <> brackets from the chat completely? I really dislike them and they serve no purpose.
@Gentron
It's simpleprefix.command.*: true
I'm having some trouble using the commands in-game. I've installed the plugin, and I've put the simpleprefix.command* node both under my name, as well as under the 'admin' group that I have in PermissionsBukkit. I still can't get any /spr commands to work. Any ideas?
@flybox
You need to give the users you want to be able to use commands the permissions to use them. Look at the commands table above the comments, it has all the nodes.
When i put the plugin in my plugins folder, everything loads well.. but when i try commands in the game (while opped) it wont work... nothing shows up..
@Flabaliki
Sorry man. :/ thx though!
@Flabaliki
Ooooooh, thats really simple xdd
@Sleaker
The "API" in this plugin was never really the focus anyway, it was just a little thing to allow people to grab a prefix or suffix, nothing else.
What exactly are the benefits of using Vault? And if I were to do so, what do I need to change?
Does Group manager work cuz it doesn't seem to?
@Flabaliki
I've had someone request inclusion of SimplePrefix support in Vault. I'm hesitant to even bother as it seems like the API is unfinished and not well designed. If you'd like some help or recommendation on how to get your plugin supported in Vault feel free to respond. At this point due to how the API is setup I will not be supporting it.
@vman411gamer
Dude, don't spam the comments, post this as a ticket. This error is clear, if you read it.
InvalidConfigurationException: while scanning an anchor in "<string>", line 8, column 18: prefix: '&2[Donator]&2' ^ expected alphabetic or numeric character, but found [(91) in "<string>", line 8, column 20: prefix: '&2[Donator]&2'
You have mucked up the formatting of the configuration. Make a ticket and post your configuration files there, if you post it here again, I won't respond to that.
is there a way to make text blank but your name a certain color?
Edit: also it was working then it said permission nodes were incorrect?
Another Edit. I have not changed the config file but now I am getting this error:
@joasiee
Your permissions are inheriting from the group guest. So any groups that inherit from it will need the permission: simpleprefix.guest: false
I got a problem. I did all the configuration correctly but at every group it says im a Guest. But if i type /who i see myself with: Owner: joasiee. Here are my configs maybe u can help?
@stargateanubis14
The chat message has to be changed to allow for prefixes to be implemented, without doing so, prefixes would do nothing. I'll look in to making it friendly with HeroChat though, there may be some things I can do to detect if you have it, and if so, I may be able to get it to function a little differently. No promises or guarantees, but I'll see what I can do.
Is there a way to have this NOT over-write the chat output? I am using herochat for my chatting, but i need the output to be via herochat. The only problem is, i need a way to assign prefixes to people, which herochat doesn't provide. This plugin was allowing prefixes to be assigned, and herochat simply put them using their own tags... but now its not working properly :/
@Flabaliki
Thanks! :) it seems to work fine if i just use the built in permissions command /permissions player setgroup <rank> but typing all that when i could type /rank <player> <rank> seems like a waste of time :)
@Flabaliki
I managed to get it to work by going the long way around..

@aciidic Currently you can't set different prefixes per world
@Sabersamus Just use /spr reload in game, that will refresh the prefixes. They also refresh when people change world or someone joins the game. The reason they don't refresh on rank change is, that is controlled by another plugin, and people use a lot of different plugins for permissions, so it's hard to integrate them all to refresh the prefixes.
@xDeeKay Seems like a viable suggestion, I may implement these in the future.
@meiamone This plugin is designed to be a stand alone, and not require any other plugins to have prefixes and suffixes, so that will not be added, sorry.
