Gringotts
Gringotts: Item based currency.
Gringotts is an item-based economy (currency) plugin for the Bukkit Minecraft server platform. Unlike earlier economy plugins, all currency value and money transactions are based on actual items in Minecraft, per default emeralds. The goals are to add a greater level of immersion, a generally more Minecraft-like feeling, and in the case of a PvP environment, making the currency itself vulnerable to raiding.
Gringotts was originally created for the Minecraft Wars PvP/survival server.
Features
- Item-backed economy (configurable, default emeralds)
- multiple denominations with automatic conversion (for example, use emeralds and emerald blocks)
- Storage of currency in chests and other containers, player inventory and ender chests (configurable)
- direct account-to-account transfers commands
- optional transaction taxes
- fractional currency values (fixed decimal digits)
- Account support for Factions, Towny and WorldGuard
- Vault integration

v2.9
- DEPENDS ON JAVA 8. If your server is not on Java 8 yet, you should upgrade, or ask your service provider to upgrade. Java 7 isn't supported anymore by Oracle.
- Should now work both in regular as well as async context. This means there should be no more "Asynchronous entity world add" errors anymore, and Gringotts is now compatible with Towny in async mode, as well as other plugins that call economy methods asynchronously.
- The maximum virtual money allowed for an account is now equal to the lowest denomination, instead of the highest. I changed this because that behavior was causing lots of confusion.
- fixed other minor bugs
v2.8
- built for Minecraft 1.9 and Factions 2.8. May not be compatible with older Factions versions!
- unsupported versions of Factions should be handled more gracefully now.
- updated to current version of Metrics-Lite. Fixes annoying error messages.
v2.7
- Named denominations: Each denomination can now have its own name, which will be shown in /balance messages and the like. To activate this feature, use the
named-denominations
config setting. By default this will use the denomination's displayname or regular item name, but you can define a custom name as well. See configuration instructions for details. - Balance messages can now be configured to show only regular balance or also vault/inventory balances.
- Now also supports
&
prefix to color codes in messages and item displayname/lore in addition to the defaultยง
prefix. - can now also used Vault-supported item names in denomination config, not only regular Bukkit names. This can make the config a bit more intuitive. (requires Vault)
- lore config for denomination items now also allows a simple string instead of a string list.
- configuration should now always be loaded as UTF8.
- fixed an issue with
/money
commands failing on some servers.
v2.6
- adds display name and lore support for currency items. See configuration instructions on how to configure this. Note you will need a third-party plugin to rename items not created by Gringotts. Thanks to dj5566 for contributing this feature!
startingbalance
config option works again

Installation and Configuration
Download Gringotts and place it in your craftbukkit/plugins folder.
Please see the Configuration and Permissions document on how to configure Gringotts.
Usage
For full information on configuration and usage in Gringotts v2.x, please see the configuration page and the usage page respectively.
Storing money in an account requires a Gringotts vault. A vault consists of a container, which can be either chest, dispenser or furnace, and a sign above declaring it as a vault. A player or faction may claim any number of vaults. Vaults are not protected from access through other players. If you would like them to be, you may use additional plugins such as LWC or WorldGuard.
Player vaults
Place a sign above a container block, with [vault]
written on the first line. If it was created correctly, the sign will display your name on the third line and you will receive a message that the vault has been created.
Faction vaults
Place a sign above a container block, with [faction vault]
written on the first line. If it was created correctly, the sign will display your faction's tag on the third line and you will receive a message that the vault has been created.
Towny vaults
- To make a vault for your town: place a sign above a container block, with
[town vault]
written on the first line. - To make a vault for your nation: place a sign above a container block, with
[nation vault]
written on the first line. If it was created correctly, the sign will display your town's or nation's tag on the third line and you will receive a message that the vault has been created.
User commands
/money
Display your account's current balance.
/money pay <amount> <player>
Pay an amount to a player. The transaction will only succeed if your account has at least the given amount plus any taxes that apply, and the receiving account has enough capacity for the amount.
/money withdraw <amount>
/money deposit <amount>
Withdraw an amount from vault storage into inventory, or deposit from inventory to a vault.
Admin commands
/moneyadmin b <account>
Get the balance of a player's account.
/moneyadmin add <amount> <account>
Add an amount of money to a player's account.
/moneyadmin rm <amount>
Remove an amount of money from a player's account.
/gringotts reload
Reload Gringotts config.yml and apply any changed settings.

No Register on this server. Ended up removing it a while back after seeing it wasnt needed if I was using essentials. Think that one would be a conflict if it were there? I can test some scenarios out if you want. Been trying to figure out the exact trigger for it to reset to 0.
I just saw that when it is in a good state (though timeframe is limited) you can /town deposit and it will behave as expected. While testing it I think I might be seeing what boots the other towns back to $0. Almost looks like it is the recreation of a town vault that resets everyone elses. Ill test with simple money add / remove (physically in the chest) to see if that resets all the other towns too.
In the logs AccountHolder towny: town-Keeslington is not valid. Deleting associated account chest.... this is before what I think was me recreating another towns sign. storing account chest: - (followed by vault info)
@commandLion
Thanks for the details. Just a though: Do you also have Register installed aside of Vault?
Just posting to confirm what was stated below.
Player account seem to work OK but haven't fully tested. Town and nation vaults will show funds on creation then get wiped after a short while. Seems to happen faster when you leave those chunks and it saves. Was able to add money and remove it and it showed up again, but the next time it went back to 0 the trick didn't work and required the sign to be destroyed and remade.
Using deposit for a town account makes money go elsewhere. Guessing the default towny account that is non physical.
Three plugins I narrowed it down to are essentials, towny , and gringotts.
In essentials, no user data appears to get updated or created with any town money adjustments. The baltop command in essentials never reflects Towny currency it seems, but may just be another issue.
@Mortalsinn
Okay great. Please add you Gringotts, Towny, Vault and Bukkit server versions to the tickets, and whether you use craftbukkit or something else.
@ebenwert
ok I'll open up some tickets in a bit once I am not so busy at work but I'll answer your questions really quickly here....
- yes they are not being charged at all whether they have money on them or not (in regards to chest shop) It's like it's not detecting your plugin through Vault or something
- As for the Towny question - I haven't heard from everyone but it seems like its happening to most people. They deposit a pile of money in to the town bank (/town deposit [amount]) and their balance changes (the gems come out of their vault) but when they check the town bank via the town info command the balance says Zero and when it comes near tax collection time they get warnings that the town will go under.
BTW I should note that this is even with the gems in the Town Vault. In Fact some are saying their Gems sometimes don't get transferred to the Town Vault when they do the town deposit command. I know this all sounds crazy but I'm just passing along some info.
@Mortalsinn
Thanks for the report. I'll check out these issues. Question: Are the players not charged in general, even if they have the funds on them?
Does the problem with town vault deposit happen 100% of the time for everybody, or only part of the time? Are the vaults located in a specific world?
To keep up to date on these issues, could you please open separate tickets?
I dunno...I am having issues with ChestShop as well. I have the price set in the config to charge for shop creation yet when my players create one they aren't charged. Everything else seems to be working like charging for LWC locks and such.
- side question. I have some users saying that when they do /town desposit [amount] and they have a [town vault] set up their emeralds get transferred from their vault to the town vault but when they check their Town's bank balance it still says Zero
Any ideas? (Using Towny of course)
@jwpwns
Please see my answer below.
Does this work with chestshop? or a plugin like it
@ysbrydtawel
Thanks! Two ways:
1) use a starter kit type plugin to give them the appropriate items.
2) set the configuration option startingbalance.player for a purely virtual starting balance (requires Gringotts 2.0 beta, see included example config)
First off, brilliant plugin. I love the idea of having physical money rather than virtual money.
Anyway, my question is this: is there any way to set it up so that my users all start off with a set amount of money, say 100 ICs? (I'm running a Tekkit server so I have set Industrial Credits as our currency and disabled crafting for them).
@jwpwns
It works with chest shop and almost any other shop plugin if you have Vault installed.
any way to get this to work with like a chest shop?
@ebenwert
done contact me if you need something
@olivier_firelook
Thanks for the report, I'll try to reproduce. To get updates on this issue, could you please post a ticket though?
I have some problems with nation / town vaults (personal vaults are working well) my config is :mcpc-plus-1.4.7-R1.1-SNAPSHOT-f534-244.jar with gringotts any version / vault v1.2.24-b304 or lower, Towny v0.82.1.7 my config :
I can not hold more than 53 for nation, it seems their is a cap any ideas ? P.S. the letter of the sign is black and not green for ant chest
@xtreampb
Hi, what exactly are you trying to do?
As to vault creation: Gringotts triggers a PlayerVaultCreationEvent when somebody attempts to create a vault. You can register an event handler on Monitor priority to catch it and check if the vault creation was handled (see VaultCreator.java)
For further questions, it's probably easiest if we discuss it in chat. Add me on Skype (jastice) or jabber/google talk ([email protected])
Hey i'm attempting to use your plugin on my server. In my own plugin, what do i need to do to deterine if there is a player/town/nation vault created. I have the DAO getting chests but from that point trying to initialize the vars it is becoming a headache trying to fallow the code into towny and such.
@pepper82
Thanks for the report. That sounds like a bug, and I'll try to reproduce it. Also, what version of Gringotts are you running?
For firther handling of this issue, please open a ticket. Thanks!
Love this plugin but I am running into trouble:
Bug: using chestshops, when setting up an Adminshop which sells Emeralds for 1, it adds 1 emerald to the user's inventory, when he right clicks the sign. now if he is going to right click again, it does not add another emerald to his inventory.
If a user's inventory and vaults are full (no more capacity), he can still earn money with plugins like jobs, etc. so when a player has a full inventory and no more place for emeralds, he can still earn money which in return he will never be able to use again. So in fact his vaults and inventory may be empty (no emeralds) but his account balance may still be 1000.00. He will never again be able to make use of this account balance.
How to fix this?
