What is ActionZones?
ActionZones is very simple. It has two basic components, zones and actions. When a player enters a zone, or leaves a zone, an action can be triggered. A full list of actions is available at the link above. There are a wide variety of actions that a zone can activate, ranging from teleports, to spawning entire buildings. Zones can overlap, or be in the same location, allowing for complex and diverse creations. Zones can also be chained together to form a series of actions.
Thank konsi for the video!
What can ActionZones do?
- A lot. I will work on some demonstration videos soon.
- You can use it for transportation. You're able to chain teleport zones together to simulate rapid motion. You're able to teleport conditionally, only allowing players to teleport if they pay a fee, have previously entered a specified location, or have an empty inventory.
- You're able to spawn temporary platforms for players to jump on. This is useful for dungeons and adventure maps.
- You can spawn and kill mobs in specified areas when a player triggers a zone action.
- You can launch players into the air in any direction, allowing them to jump massive gaps.
- You can store regions in a SQL database. This allows you to build two buildings in the same location, for instance. You can build one, save it, destroy it and build another and then save it. And they you can toggle between buildings. This is also useful for griefers if you have buildings without protection or want to make a honeypot. Any damage to the building can easily be reverted.
- You can save a players inventory, allowing them to die without risk even when they have a lot of experience and items.
- Create "rides" involving teleports and launches chained together. For instance, you could create a teleport zone which teleports a player into a second teleport zone, which then launches the player into the sky where they enter a third teleport zone which sends them to the nether and saves their inventory. They could then burn to death in lava and then have their inventory restored in a zone that's been set up at spawn.
- Countless other possiblilities. Your imagination is the limit.
How do I use ActionZones?
- Place it in your plugin directory.
- Create a zone with /setzone ["p1" or "p2"] [zone name]
- Link an action to your zone with /linkaction [action name] [zone name]
- Configure additional zone settings if needed. (Check the actions page at the top.)
- Add more zones and actions.
Requirements
- Some features require Vault
- Some features require a MySQL database
Planned Features
Potion effect action.- Console command action.
- Video tutorial.
Smoke effect action.Time change action.Weather change action.- Sound effect action.
- Command block zone.
You up for new partch?
Hello I would like to thank you again for developing this plug-in that combiene beautifully with notement quests. I wanted to submit an idea / request is it possible that when We utilize the "killmob" we can choose the number of mob killed?
Thank you good day
@jajamic
It should work on 1.3.1, but hopefully I'll have an update out soon. I'm not sure what you mean about the other part.
@wyndkin
What do you mean by console commands? Which commands would you like to work from the console? A cooldown will be something I add soon hopefully.
Hi just an idea for the plug-in will he update 1.3.1? Pouriez you ensorte the player enters an area and a command is active without checking the permission of the player? but also a command or this true? I think it would add a lot of Role play in linking this plug in to other quests etc. as ...
in any case very good job thank you :)
May I suggest adding in a cooldown action and my previous hoping/wishing/wanting the whole console commands thing? Your plugin is so much fun you have no idea:
Player walks through doorway. Spider falls on head. Brilliant
@wyndkin You didn't miss any post here. This quote is from his other plugins thread ;)
@Konsi20
Ah cool thank you, my bad for missing that post >_< I shall hit my patience button.
Let me quote him: "I'll be going on a vacation soon (August 7th) [...] I'll be back around the 22nd. If you find a bug while I'm gone write a ticket and I'll work on it as soon as I'm back."
It's not inactive, but the Owl needed a break ;)
Did this suddenly go inactive? :\
Using 0.11 on a Bukkit 1.3.1 and mySQL settings keep disappearing when my server restarts. No log recorded the config file just reverts back to its original settings.
Edit: Awesome plugin by the way its a lot of fun. When will you be adding console commands to this?
@thejellifish
It really easy. The zones are where your feet are at. So stand where you want point one to be and then go over to point two then everything in between is that zone. I personally use this plugin a lot and I have to say it a simple plugin with many uses and I wish I found this out earlier.
@Kriptini
Awesome. I'd like to come take a look. :) Really, this plugin seems to have more potential than my other one. After I finish some more things on HyperConomy I have some big plans for ActionZones. One of these is the addition of regions and animation. Animation is already possible with the restorezone action, but it's a pain to set up and requires far too many zones. What I plan to add will make it much more practical.
@RegalOwl
Well, whatever you do, I hope you continue to develop this plugin for a long time. It's an intregal part of this dungeon-based RPG server which is about 70% ready for launch. It's going to be big, and I would like to extend an invitation to you to explore it for yourself and see what we've managed to accomplish with the help of your plugin. Once the dungeon and quests are nearer to completion, I'll drop you a message. I hope our work will make you proud to be a plugin developer. =)
@Kriptini
Ah, perhaps I should add a zone outline option sort of like MobArena's. I haven't seen Worldedit's region viewer mod. It's already not too difficult to see which zone you're in when you enable zone debug mode with /tzd. That combined with /togglebypass allows you to move through zones safely, and see where the boundary is. But I like the idea of visible regions.
@RegalOwl
The problem arises from the fact that it's possible to stand intetween two blocks (since there's no gridlines) and messing up your position, especially because there's no way to visibly see your AZ selections, unlike WorldEdit and WorldGuard that developed a special client mod that let's you see your selected region in green cubes.
@Kriptini
I could add a wand feature potentially, but I've always felt that the way it is now is superior to WorldEdit's wand feature. WorldEdit itself uses the same method that I use (/pos1 and /pos2) as a backup for the wand since the wand doesn't work for all situations. The problem is when you need to select a region where one of the corners isn't a solid block. With the wand you have to build a tower of blocks to select it, whereas it's much easier to just type /sz p1 or p2 when you're standing at the exact location you want the zone to encompass. I just like knowing exactly where the zone will be. When you stand there, you know that anyone standing on the same block will also be in the zone.
If you use creative (flying) along with something like zombes4bukkit, going to each position becomes much easier than messing with a wand. Which is an extra command to enable and you have to go near each corner anyway. (zombes4bukkit lets you fly through blocks as if they were air.)
Hey Regal,
I think it would be cool if you added WorldEdit wand support so we wouldn't have to define zones or locations by standing on the particular block.
Thanks,
Kriptini
@mag977
Sure, I can add both of those to the list. :)
RegalOwl,
First i'd like to say that i love the plugin. It working great on our server! (especially with Vault). We are using it as a quest plugin as well and so far the only way i was able to make it pay you when you got done with the quest was to set the payteleport to a negative number. Wondering if you could add and action that would actually pay you instead of you paying it. I don't want my players to get confused when they get teleported and it says you payed -25$. This would help out a ton.
Thanks,
mag977
UPDATE: Also wondering if you could possibly add a help page to the server so we don't have to go to the website everytime I want to look at the actions and other things as well. Let me know what you thing. Thanks
