Villages
PLEASE READ THIS
This video below sums up what's happening with Villages (and all my other plugins) and most likely a lot of other plugins, this is just my two cents and I would appreciate if you would watch this video.
What is it?
Similar to plugins like Towny, We wanted to create a simplified version, more of the, let the player decide, rather than letting the plugin or an administrator decide.
How it works
Basically, a player can pay money to create a village (if economy is used, or simply it's free) at the chunk they're standing on, and invite players. Players can only be invited to a single village, the residents can then deposit money into the village which the mayor can spend to expand the village.
Due to some recent Bukkit changes I have to point out that this plugin checks for updates using the Curse API, and you can disable this feature at any time if you wish, simply check under the configuration page for the update setting and how to disable it.
Future plans
So far the plugin is fairly basic, I wanted to put it on Bukkit, see how it goes and if you people like it, I'll add more stuff, you can comment what you'd like to see added below if you wish.
Some of the basic ideas I have now are:
- Regions, which may have one or more Villages in them
- Wars between Villages and/or regions

When you do this for 1.7.2?
@MineCraftler4Live
(Depending on your configuration settings) the plugin will automatically protect areas that players claim as their Village, meaning only residents of a Village, or if you're using Village Plots, can break and/or place in those areas.
Side note, I just updated the plugin to version 2.12, very minor update, be sure to recheck your configuration settings however, since Mob Names may have changed.
I have to protect the world before? or is automatically secured by the plugin? or do I have the world's first safe with word edit?
sorry for the bad english. I'm a German Boy :)
Just updated the plugin to version 2.11, this is in conjunction with me releasing my new Plugin, DomsCommands. This addressed some bugs mainly, and a few little chat change requests, be sure to update your config if needed. Changes:
War beetwen villages
/v declare war [village name]
@Nepenthesis
At the moment I've had to remove Dynmap support, I want to add it again but I may call in help from the Dynmap owner to make a better version of the plugin.
Do the towns show up on Dynmap?
@DeaShiva
Appreciate the thanks :)
@dalekaidan
The plugin was originally designed to be basically the same but just fix some things that bugged me in towny (Mainly the major multiworld lack of support), actually even says it under the "What is it" heading
@MythicCynic
1) If you change the configuration and set the Wilderness prefix to just '', then there will be no prefix for those not in villages
2) I've been meaning to work on help for a while now, as for permissions I'll make some easier to use permissions
3) You can customize the size of a "region" but I haven't set a default size, the older versions have this, however the option hasn't existed since v2.00, however due to the way SQL works I can't have the village without at least 1 claimed chunk, otherwise the server will start to throw errors
4) I'll see about adding a config option to hide the menu's from those not in a village.
GREAT PLUGIN!
That said here are a few concerns:
1) We cannot change the wilderness tag so when the message prefix is on we either get the village name AND wilderness or nothing. I would like to have it only prefix if the player is actually in a village and leave it alone otherwise. The workaround I found is using essentials chat and formatting the problem is that if I want brackets or something around it, players without villages will just have empty brackets. It works for now I guess but if it is possible to have it not mention wilderness anymore that would be better.
2) There is no help menu in game and there are TONS of permission nodes. An update for like a "villages.player.*" node would be a great help so it contains all basic user permissions and owners have that shortcut available.
3) No land/too little land is claimed by default. This makes it quite difficult to expand unless you immediately expand after creating the village because it keeps track of the POINT the village was created on. Just a suggestion but I think village creation should not be tied to a physical point until a command gets issued. For example allow a player to create a village with /vil create <name> but instead of that village being created where the user is standing, it just remains as a "status" on the player until the player does say "/vil claim" in an appropriate place. This allows them to start with a good deal of land and more easily expand their village. Alternatively, chunk claiming could be changed to automatically pick an adjacent chunk to the village (or have a user specified direction as a parameter) so that the user does not have to be standing in the exact chunk. Again these are just suggestions.
4) The Tax GUI and other GUIs are shown to ALL players even if they are not in a village. This leads to confusion about tax where players think they are getting taxed even though they are not part of a village.
sort of a rip off from towny
Great Plugin!! You have my respect.
Ok, Just updated the plugin to version 2.09, this should address any 1.7 item related issues, however many (particularly those with mobs) still exist, and I am slowly working on them, sorry I can't fix them right now but I have many plugins that need fixing at the same time
Please wait for Bukkit to approve this change and download.
ALSO I would like to thank all of you for helping me reach 6000 downloads on this plugin, that is an AMAZING Amount of downloads that I thought I'd never reach, and I'd love to thank each and every one of you personally if I could, incase you don't know I've tweeted for every single milestone on this plugin and will continue to do so in the future. I know there is many many features that I have yet to complete and I'm trying my best but it's difficult to do at the moment.
Once again, thank you all for the support and I look forward to continuing development on this plugin for you all.
Thanks
Dom
Sorry for the lack of updates, due to 1.7 and the way that Item Values are stored I have to redo a lot of code, particularly with SQL. I will release an update (hopefully soon) that you really should run on a 1.6 server to ensure no critical data is loss, however should still work when 1.7 comes out.
It would be a nice feature that when you claim your village or expand, the plugin marks the chunk/s with torches.
Feature-Request: More extensive help menus. (Display a list of all avilable commands and their optional paramaters.)
@Rotebay
Wars was just an idea, there's no real future plan to add it at the moment.
When wars will be added? It's kind of a hole in plugin cuz ppl can't actually do much else than claim land. What is the idea for wars btw?
If you can't access the forums, I'm currently fixing them up and they should return fairly soon. Sorry about this. If you need support with Villages, feel free to join us on IRC.
@Rotebay
That's also against the Bukkit rules, we tried to before but they removed our links.
@Rotebay
There was a problem with v2.07, Bukkit changed the way that updates had to be performed and I had to fix this and release as v2.08, this version however is now available for download.
