Summary
Shows great Bukkit desktop notifications! Also lets plugins show their own messages if they support it. If you want a plugin to show messages on the desktop, just ask the plugin developer to implement Notifications! ;)
What does it do
- Shows notifications on the desktop (screen)
- Built-in notifications for players joining/leaving (configurable!)
- Allows plugins to show their own messages with colors (configurable!)
- You can also configure some visual options for the notifications
- It works on MAC too! :D
Configuration
The configuration has help and is very self-explanatory.
API for plugin developers
Plugins that use Notifications (and that you should check out! :D)
- MoreProtect (definitely recommended automatic anti-grief!)
- GrandExchange (recommended trading/shop)
- Bukkitmanager
- Report player
- AuthMe
- SignShop
- ChestShop
Submit suggestions and bugs here!!
If people can donate to your server, please support :)
Metrics
This plugin uses MCStats to collect information about plugin usage. Of course, this is strictly anonymous, and you can easily opt out via plugins/PluginMetrics/config.yml. The NSA isn't watching your server ;) You can of course see for yourself what data is collected on the MCStats site, just the basic stuff: how many servers, how many players, which Bukkit version, etc.
Remote Support soon?
Maybe a feature on adding in the config for custom messages? Instead of implementing it in the plugin?
@Goblom
Well that's a shame? Not all are locally done, I hope there's going to be some sort of remote support soon!
any chance that you will set this up so it will work for those of us that have a hosted server? .. I just installed this plugin .. then went to look for the part that has to be installed on my local computer .. then read what Goblom said ..
@MarStefo
It works on macs with the right graphics support. I've seen it work on several Macs with my own eyes, sorry for not having the specs, but the plugin also doesn't work on several Windows computers. It runs on some Linux computers, and on others it doesn't.
I'm dependant on the way your computer supports the default Java graphics of the awt/swing libraries.
@dh47
There is no Desktop version from what i have experienced while using this plugin, It only works on the computer that is running the server with this plugin. It will show up automatically on your screen if you are running the server locally
Uh stupid question, but where is the download for the desktop Notifications program?
There is a problem: you says "It works on MAC too!" but in my Mac OS 10.7.5 (iMac end 2009) (8 GB RAM 1067 MHz DDR3, CPU 3.06 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo) says: Your computer does not support per-pixel transculency! Notifications will have a different shape, or may not be visible at all. So, is "not be visible at all", why?
Is remote? MyHost->MyPC?
Looks cool, but it'd be nice if I could view it on another computer. Could be possible with a client that connects to the server's IP...
Cool plugin! =D but it would be really nice if there was an API or something that allows other stuff to hook into 'receiving' the messages. Would be cool so if a server has a custom MC launcher/client, they could connect threw an extra port or something and display the messages to the players or they could connect to the messages to display them on a webpage. but its still an awesome idea, just would be nice to beadle to have a way for stuff other than the server to receive the messages.
A client side mod/program would help greatly. When the server is on another box it doesn't provide much help :/
Also, this happens when you are running the server without a GUI (linux for example): http://pastebin.com/7p1hCZhN
Somehow making this work with an ajax-plugin or something so you could have it on the webpage would have been awesome. And of course, as everyone keeps saying, an computer app for players not just for lokal servers.
remote server support please
@lorenzo_p
Agreed, I was so happy about this until I realized I couldn't use it on my remote server.
AuthMe uses this :D
@Muizers
Really nice, I'm looking forward to this too.
roelmb has a good point. I didn't realize the plugin worked this way until I read their comment. I assumed it had a desktop app which connected to the plugin. I do hope you plan on doing it this way. it's silly having notifications on the server. most servers don't even have a desktop installed. lets make this something players can use, not just for tinny windows servers hosted at home.
I do have some experience developing desktop java apps, and experience using tcp sockets. I would love to help with this. hit me up, I'll send you a pm. I'll add this to my own plugins if it turns out well, as it looks it is already :-)
an idea, joehot200's signature has a nice graphic that would work great for notifications. a skinning feature comes to mind. could automatically download skins from the server, similar to how minecraft downloads texture packs now.
@Muizers
Goody! want wait!
@semirotta
Support for external servers is coming soon!
