MoArrows
Update 11 October 2013: For those of you who have been asking, I no longer have the source for this plugin. I deleted all traces of it from my computer once I truly realized how Minecraft users treat developers. If you want the source, you'll have to decompile.
An honest and humbling note from MisterAverage: I've recovered my source code for the plugin. Unfortunately, after 8 months away from it, I feel like it might have well been written in a semi-foreign language. While I can still waddle my way through one procedure call to the next and make sense of it bit by bit, I can already tell that updating this archaic code (especially for the inevitable 1.6 update) will be a daunting chore for a one-man operation to say the least. I'm extremely surprised MoArrows maintained its functionality as long as it has. .
In addition, I've noticed this evening that there are quite a few other (*cough* ripoff *cough*) plugins that seem to have captured the arrow modification spotlight without giving the slightest bit of credit to original ideas coming from skeletonofchaos, ayan4m1, myself, or any other arrow modder on Bukkitdev. To be honest, that in itself sickens me enough to call it quits and just have fun with Minecraft like I did before all of this. Coding ethics just aren't what they used to be I guess. .
I've spent literally countless hours compiling a bunch of java and accompanying documentation for people that I don't know in an effort to make Minecraft a more fun game to play. In the process of doing that, I almost forgot what it was like to just have fun in this game with a group of friends without worrying about updates or tickets or testing. And quite frankly, I have more important things to attend to in my real life. I'm sure I'll still code from time to time. Hell, I might still write plugins. But in the future, they will all be public domain because they will be copied no matter what "license" i put on them. That being said, I would still be willing to assist anyone who wishes to reproduce an updated version. .
As of this message, all of my projects are open to the public (hence public domain) and free to clone, decompile, copy, alter, or whatever. I can provide source and give advice if necessary. I honestly don't care anymore. Credit me, or don't. It doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things. I just hope I had some impact on the game, and I thank you all for sticking with me for so long. To those of you who donated, be happy in the fact that you provided the beer for late night coding sessions during the development process of this plugin, and for that I'm eternally grateful. =P .
One last thing.. I'll see you all in game. You aint gettin' rid of me that easy! =P .

Intro: Tired of bow usage being a joke? Want to add a new dimension of excitement to PvP battles? Wish there was more depth to archery in Minecraft? If you answered yes to any of these, read on.
Each arrow has it's own unique ability that adds more versatility to archery in Minecraft. In addition, this plugin attempts to solve the huge degree of imbalance between melee and ranged attacks in vanilla Minecraft. I was amazed that a player could empty half a stack of arrows into a diamond clad attacker and still not get a kill. This plugin provides the capability to even the playing field between bows and swords and make PvP battles much more dynamic. There is now an alternative to a bunch of tanks wildly swinging blades at each other! The overall goal is to make archery more playable, particularly in PvP servers.

A note about permissions: If I set all permission defaulted to false, people who are unfamiliar with permissions usage complain that the plugin doesn't work. If I have them defaulted to true, people who are unfamiliar with permissions usage complain about everyone having use of all permissions. ALL MoArrows permissions can be enabled or disabled to suit your needs if you learn how to use your permissions plugin well. Please do not post any more questions about permissions unless you have exhausted all other options for learning the system.
Quote:Most arrows are enabled by default, yes. Please check out the default permissions to see what is and isn't enabled at the following link..
http://dev.bukkit.org/server-mods/moarrows/pages/plugin-yml/
The reason most types are enabled by default is because, when they were all set to false, so many permissions newbs complain that the plugin doesn't work when they haven't set any permissions for it (and subsequently uninstall MoArrows). Unfortunately, now that I've set many permissions default to true, I have people complaining that everyone can use "all" the arrow types.
It's an unfortunate double edged sword at my neck. If I set all to false, people say it doesn't work.. if i set all to true, people complain that it works for everyone. I don't have a remedy for this aside from saying to everyone "LEARN PERMISSIONS!" =)
Usage:
- left click with bow to cycle through arrow types
- Shift+left click to cycle backwards
- /moarrows [arrowtype] - disables or re-enables arrow types in the selection sequence at the user level
- /moarrows list - lists important config values
- /moarrows help - shows a quick command reference
- /moarrows help [arrowtype] - displays arrow summary and required materials
- /moarrows reload - reloads all config.yml values
- /moarrows version - displays the server's version of MoArrows
Permissions:
moarrows.use.all (default: false)
moarrows.bypassmaterials (default: false)
moarrows.bypasscooldowns (default: false)
moarrows.allowcrit (default: true)
moarrows.use.[arrow type goes here] (default: true except teleport and doombringer)
moarrows.list (default: true)
moarrows.help (default: true)
moarrows.reload (default: op)
Arrow types are currently normal, poison, explosive, compression, teleport, lightning, slow, razor, piercing, fire, net, and doombringer. Note: The superperms bug has been fixed. You can now safely disable features of MoArrows with them.

Special thanks: First and foremost, I'd like to thank ayan4m1 (the developer of multiarrow) for creating the initial framework for the first few versions of MoArrows. A big shout out goes to Shanko (owner of war.pvpzone.org:25600) for being the first server owner to beta test for me. I couldn't have completed the Towny support without the testing from Zombiemold. Factions support wouldn't have happened without spacecakeXD and Imkingoflive. A really cool guy named Cecell helped me out a bunch with McMMO testing on his server. LastWishESP from Youtube deserves muchas gracias for his 2.3.3 file translation and tutorial video. Thanks go out to Clanforge AKA multiplay.co.uk for adding MoArrows. Also, I am incredibly grateful for those of you who've donated to this project so far, as well as those of you who are considering doing so in the future.
@LHammonds It says "CB 1.2.3-R0.2" so probably it doesn't work for 1.1
Does this plugin work with CraftBukkit 1.1-R4 (build 1938)?
I have a 64-bit Ubuntu server 10.04 LTS with Java 1.6.0_31...but the plugin seems to blow up when trying to use any arrows.
It may be of no concern but I am using the following plugins successfully: SilkSpawners 1.0.1, SuperCauldrons 1.2.2, GravelClay 1.3.5, MagicBookshelf 0.2, AutoShutdown 2.2, ScubaKit 3.0.2, KonseptGate 0.5.1, mcMMO 1.2.12-b155, TreeAssist 3.3, Essentials 2.8.2
PermissionsBukkit was just installed and I allowed all permissions for moarrows in the default group.
Pertinent bits of the PermissionsBukkit config.yml:
Pertinent bits of the server.log:
Thanks, LHammonds
Nice!
But in the config its says drill-materials, but it are the teleport materials.
@Zombiemold
I eventually will add faction/towny support. You have to understand that hooking into those plugins requires a lot of research and plugin modification. When I start work on that, I hope you will lend me testing support on your server. If that's something you'd be interested in, please pm me with your server details. For the time being, I would hope your moderation staff is enforcing rules pertaining to safe zones and punishing offenders.
Also.. poison arrow is not a splash effect. It just has a splash effect visual.
Great work so far. Loving the development of this plugin.
I am gonna miss torch arrows, though fire arrows kinda work similar.
As expected though, this plugin, on my server, is a tool to grief players in non-pvp zones, picking on those who want to stay out of PvP in towns and such, since poison splashes and stuff ignore PvP settings.
@ZephyrWestWind
That would be interesting, but it would take a lot of research and coding to make it work right. I had enough trouble getting the plugin to work right for players, let alone unmanned artillery. I'll keep it in mind if I run out of stuff to do.
@Strelet12
This plugin has been tested with 1.2.4 build #2116 and works fine. I cant officially release it for 1.2.4 until bukkit makes the beta for it and puts that option on the file upload page.
Permissions are required because otherwise everyone has equal access to all features of this plugin.. Thats bad bad juju even if you only play with your friends on a private server. This plugin WILL run without permissions, but not as it was intended.
I have an idea. Could you think of a way to be able to choose what type of arrow a dispenser fires?
@shankomaster
I did. 5.137.130.14:25565 It's supposed to be like the Hunger Games. Don't judge me, join me.
Hold on...I know this is 1.2.0 and it was made just today, but why is it for 1.2.3 and not a 1.2.4? I guess you still want to go on the Beta build of it, can't blame you.
Anyway, I wanna see if it will work on the 1.2.4 dev build, I hope it will, this one mod sounds very great.
EDIT: Now I know why it doesn't work, it's because of permissions, and I don't use permissions because I don't have a public server, I hope you can make it work without it soon.
EDIT2: Nevermind, it actually DOES work without permissions, maybe you should make permissions be optional now, or I'm just a special case?
@Zombiemold
Excellent suggestions! I've added them to my to-do list.
Amazing plugin, have been waiting for something of this quality for a very long time.
Compliments mcmmo very well :)
I have a few high-priority suggestions.
1) This needs to have Towny support, as soon as possible (Factions too, if I must be un-biased) It can be used to bypass PvP settings in Towny, which is bad bad. Additionally, explosions can be used to grief in Towny regions.
2) I would love to be able to custom tailor the messages that the plugin sends to the players when they try to fire types that they have no items for. At the moment, it is completely un-specific. If I were able to change the message to something like, "You need 1 Ink sack to fire that arrow type!" it would make the plugin completely intuitive, self contained, and wouldn't need ANY explanation form 3rd party plugins / players.
3) Cooldowns for arrow types is also a MUST-HAVE. Even with item costs for arrows, someone who has like a stack of TNT, could essentially obliterate someone by rapid firing the explosion arrow for instance.
Other things like, Potion effect arrows, optional item costs (like 2 Blaze powder OR 1 Blaze rod to use a particular arrow type) and block encasing arrows would be very welcome, but likely a lower priority than getting it balanced first.
I love what you have done with the plugin so far, and I would love to see more from you. This is great.
@MisterAverage
greate! evrthng works now) thx for working on it)
@Nik0lashka
Shouldn't have to worry about it now.. I got that issue fixed.
@Memorex39
Congrats on getting it working! The encumbered message is due to the armor penalty code. If your armor is too heavy, you don't do as much damage. You can turn the option for this off in the config. I can't say why you don't see the explosion effect.. Are you using any explosion modifying plugins (creeper control or tnt stuff) ?
Edit: MoArrows v1.0.6 works fine with craftbukkit 1.2.4 build #2110. I look forward to your feedback on the new version!
So it seems I have fixed the big three bugs you have all brought to my attention (worldguard dependence, major.minor error, and pex perms). The unfortunate part is that 1.2.4 is out and the bukkit team is back in development mode. I just downloaded their latest test build and I'm working with it to get things working with all my recent changes for the next release of MoArrows. Thanks for your patience!
Hey guys. I just got back into town. As soon as I get unpacked, I'm gonna sit down with some beer and smokes and get a lot of work done on this plugin tonight. I'll get to all the questions first, but expect new version(s) within a matter of hours.
@MisterAverage
how can i link client to java 6? what file should i change?
@MisterAverage
Humm, thought as much, running 70 different plugins, gonna be heck seeing which one could be conflicting. Will run some tests with just CB and moarrows on fresh server and see what rears its ugly head, then just add 1 plugin after the next.... :(
Lol, just added MoArrows back to the build and all the plugins, and guess what. Its working! Not sure what was confused, but now its working good.
First time I have seen all the effects of MoArrows, wicked and funny results.
I am not seeing an explosion from the explosion arrow, I do get a message saying I am heavily encumbered and damage is reduced?
@Memorex39
Yeah your ticket isn't really related to the java version.. there's something deeper goin on there. But the major.minor thing that he is talking about is definitely java version related. Your post on running two versions could very well be exactly what some people can try in the time being.
