Fallout

This is my main focus with Apocalyptic, and I have put quite a bit of work into this.

World Generation

Pictures

The world is ravaged by bombs and pollution, resulting in tall hills and flat plains that stretch for miles, all covered in dead grass an mushrooms that thrive in this environment. Few trees survived Armageddon, those that did are life(and leaf)less.

Oases

Life finds a way. These are small circles of life over a deserted wasteland, containing a tree, plant life and water. That last one is particularly important, as it is the only early-game way to remove radiation. The tree is one of all the normal Minecraft varieties, allowing you to get any type of wood or leaves.

Abandoned Houses

Small houses with loot chests, nothing special, but the loot chest can contain Hazmat Armor, which is discussed later on this page.

Radiation

Where the plugin really shines is radiation. This is also discussed in-game, with the command "/apocalyptic radiation". Radiation is measured in Grays, the international radiation measurement unit. I have tried to keep the effects as close as possible to the real world.

  • At 1.0 Grays You take more damage and can no longer wash off radiation. Instead, you need a golden apple.
  • At 6.0 Grays Effects at 1.0 Grays as well as being unable to eat.
  • At 10.0 Grays Effects at 6.0 Grays and 1.0 Grays as well as far increased damage, dizziness, and a decreased level of consciousness.

The algorithm for radiation gain:

if ( the player is not wearing a hazmat suit
	and above the low radiation point
	and below the high radiation point
	and a 1/4 chance) {
  add radiation equal to (in nether = 0.2, else 0.1) * (round(player level / 10)+1)
}

Hazmat Armor

You can find hazmat armor (chainmail) in abandoned houses. You can also craft it out of Sponge, which you can also find in abandoned houses. If you are wearing a full set of Hazmat Armor (Gas Mask, Hazmat Suit, Hazmat Pants, Hazmat Boots) you will not gain radiation.

Acid Rain

When raining, you will take damage if not wearing a helmet. The damage scales with difficulty.
