SnoGro (SnowGrow)
SnoGro
AKA SnowGrow
Version: v1.2.7(release)
CB 1.6.2-R0.1
Authors: @Musaddict @Feed_Dante
This plugin uses all 8 of the snowtops (yes, there are 8 heights of snow!) using a gradual snow pile-up algorithm to make aesthetically pleasing snowy areas! The snow is set up to not build up on cliff edges, or borders of the chosen area, so you can simply walk into them without worrying about it lookin' choppy! Works great in forests, adds a little extra touch to the feel. Makes everything less... blocky.
Features:
- Uses all 8 snowtops! (well, technically 7 and a snow block)
- Hooked into weather!
- Piles-up snow automatically in snowy biomes.
- Start it snowing for as long as you want using /snow [radius] [time]
- Radius is Square, not Circular
- Time is in seconds. (300 = 5 min)
- Stop the snow whenever you feel like it using /snow stop
- Optimized performance to relieve resource consumption on servers
- Fully compatible with WorldEdit (use snow with a double-slash to use WE's)
- Compatible with SuperPerm plugins
Permissions:
sg.snow | Starts snow /snow [radius] [time] |
sg.stop | Stops snow /snow stop |
sg.world.enable | allows the use of /snow enable [world] |
sg.world.disable | allows the use of /snow disable [world] |
OPs can, by default, start and stop snow
Known Bugs:
- Due to the restrictions of Bukkit and Minecraft, we cannot simulate snowfall within the specified radius, sorry!
- SnoGro require the server to be running Java 1.7
A few things I have noticed:
1. Works perfect with 1.8
2. New Biomes are left out of Snow, even if they are snowy naturally
3. Tall Grass will not get replaced
4. Snow on Mountain Tops is not generated as well.
@FeedDante You could download (indirectly, using BuildTools) the 1.8+ jar(s) from SpigotMC.
@KevinEssence
Last I checked this was working in 1.7.9 (and IIRC vanilla actually accumulates snow too.)
Please fix this in 1.8
Not possible.
A: The latest Bukkit dev build is #1950, 1.7.10-R0.1
B: the CB builds are on longer available.
I haven't been looking so I don't know if there are other forks or unofficial builds but without that there is no CB 1.8 to run or test on.
Please fix this in 1.8 :s Snow doesn't stack, only places like 2 snow slabs then stops. Tried it with -1 height and 100 height http://gyazo.com/e95ee8ab4558137d2884dc14957a2266
@TDB_South_Paw
Not really dead and update not needed. It's mostly feature-complete though. Last I tested (about 2 weeks ago) it worked fine with 1.7.9.
If you've got an error that isn't "unsupported major.minor version 52.0" just make a ticket and I'll see what I can do.
Wondering if this project is dead or if it may receive an update sometime soon :3
Getting the same crash as cubenation. I hope for an update! This plugin is amazing.
Kind of works a charm generating wonderful snowy areas on our spawn after changing it to taiga (BiomeEdit). But sometimes it crashes our server, any idea why: http://paste.md-5.net/farumibaku.avrasm ? Thanks!
Doesn't work automatically in snow biomes :( Is this a bug, or did i misread the features?
EDIT: Derp, i was being stupid. I had to do "/snow enable world" :P
BUG FOUND: I use MCPC-plus and traincraft mod. (1.5.2) When this mod is installed, fragments of snow formed in the air at different heights (first layer). Without this mod everything is fine.
@Shaggy2010
Updated :)
I wish this would be updated, there is no other plugin that gives good snow like this.
Is there any chance this is going to be updated soon? It still works for me on 1.4.6, but it fills my console with errors about "Task #317" throwing an exception.
@Byamarro
Its supposed to hook into the storm and when I start a storm manually it works, more 'natural' storms seem to be a bug that I can't nail down.
Or maybe 1.4.x is somehow changing the weather situation?
Either way I'm not going to be releasing anything till 1.4.x RB is out.
Please UpDate it to 1.4.2 (It snow over carrots and potatoes).
Btw it don't hooks to storms. When there is storm, I don't see special snow slabs.
What you want is to set the height limit to 7 in the config.
Look at this page for more info:

I don't have the time to add other commands or things right now. sorry.
I haven't looked but my guess is that the snow forms on-top (next block up) of a half step/slab leaving a gap of air. There isn't much I can do about this, a block can be either a half slab or snow, not both. Best I could do would be to stop snow from forming on half blocks (slabs) but that might seem awkward itself.
Is it possible to prevent full snow blocks from forming? I really like how players can wade through the snow and use it as a step with blocks 1-7
I would also like if we could specify for a /snow [radius] [time] to be ran at x position every y minutes, to help with the lag problems.
I also noticed that snow can form awkwardly on half steps after running a /snow [radius] [time] command.
@Byamarro
Ya know, you could always just try it with 1.3 and see if it works before you assume it won't.
I can't really think of anything code-wise that would break with the update. I'll get to testing it eventually but I only have so much free time.
I really hate this attitude of "Oh, new version of Minecraft is out. I guess all my plugins are incompatible now." (and I don't just mean you) When in reality 90% of all plugins will work fine as-is with the new MC version.
Great plugin! I cross fingers for You! And wainting for 1.3.1 :)
this is freaking amazing. :) great job for making such a simple realistic yet sweet plugin. I like the idea of this for my server but have no real use for it for now sadly. I wish they would make it possible for rain to fill up holes like that and can create new lakes just like in real life. :)
