Shopkeepers
Set up custom villager shopkeepers that sell exactly what you want them to sell and for what price. You can set up admin shops, which have infinite supply, and you can also set up player shops, which pull supply from a chest.
It will also prevent any other trades with non-shopkeeper villagers, if you want it to.
For those who are simply looking for a convenient way to modify the trades of vanilla villagers (as an alternative to using complex Minecraft commands), the plugin also includes a graphical editor for regular villagers and wandering traders.
Basic Features
- Easily create villager shopkeepers that trade the items you want them to trade.
- Admins shops with infinite supplies.
- Player shops which pull supplies from a chest.
- Different types of player shops: selling, buying, trading, and selling books.
- Various supported mob types to represent your shopkeeper, sign shops, and Citizens (NPC) shops.
- Editor for regular villagers and wandering traders.
- Many configuration options.
- Translatable messages.
- Open source (Source code on GitHub)
Supported server versions
Shopkeepers supports the latest versions of Bukkit / Spigot.
Note that this plugin is created to work with CraftBukkit (or alternatively Spigot). Bukkit does not have an API for some of the things necessary to make this plugin work. This means that other server software (Tekkit, Forge, Cauldron, etc.) will not work with this plugin.
Other CraftBukkit or Spigot derivatives/forks might work, but are not officially supported. So if you run into issues while using those, try to reproduce your issue on a fresh and up-to-date Spigot server first.

Statistics
This plugin uses bStats to collect anonymous plugin usage statistics. This helps me to determine how many servers are using the plugin, which Minecraft versions it is used with the most, and to which degree the different features are used.
Here is a list of all currently tracked information:
- Common information: The number of servers using the plugin, the number of players on these servers, online mode, Minecraft version, plugin version, core count, system arch, operating system, server country, Java version.
- Shopkeepers specific information: Whether specific related plugins are used (Citizens, Towny, WorldGuard, Gringotts, other Vault economy plugins), number of shops, whether player shops are used, whether certain features are enabled in the config (ex. WorldGuard/Towny compatibility, Citizens shops, delayed saves, colored names, chest protection, removal of inactive shops, tax rate, strict item comparison, purchase logging, disabling of other villagers, ..), the number of worlds containing shops.
- All information can be publicly viewed here: https://bstats.org/plugin/bukkit/Shopkeepers/
If you want to disable bStats for all plugins on your server, edit the file plugins/bStats/config.yml, or alternatively disable it only for Shopkeepers by setting 'enable-metrics' to 'false' inside the Shopkeepers config.
Known potential issues

Want to help?
The less I have to do myself, the more time I have to write plugins. Therefore I am looking for someone who would be willing to get involved in the project. That could for example mean:
- Keeping the documentation (the wiki) up-to-date with plugin updates.
- Improving the existing documentation.
- Creating and maintaining translations.
- Help managing issues and answering questions of users.
If you are a programmer with experience in writing bukkit plugins, or have ideas on how you can contribute to the project beyond that, let me know as well! If you are interested, feel free to contact me via PM.
Beyond that, everybody is invited to help others with issues and questions in the issue tracker, comment section, and the discord channel! Also consider contributing translations!
Third-Party Add-On Plugins
Sometimes a feature is either to specific to include it directly into the Shopkeepers plugin, or I did not yet have the time to add something similar myself. The plugins listed here extend the functionality of the Shopkeepers plugin.
These plugins are maintained by other community members. If you run into issues while using any of these add-ons, try to first reproduce your problem without any add-ons before you report it.
ShopkeepersNavAddon(abandoned): Adds inventory-based GUIs that allow you to browse all player shops, all admin shops, and to find shops that trade a specific type of item. You can teleport to a particular shopkeeper by clicking a button inside the GUI.
This plugin also integrates support for trading with Vault-based currency, but does so by replacing Shopkeepers' normal trade handling.
If you have also written an add-on plugin and want it listed here, let me know!
Ok, so currently admin shops can handle ANY item including written books that were spawned in with data values(blank written books, 387:100 for example) however, I need a shop that has a limited stock of these and none of the shopkeepers besides admin ones will accept written books unless they have been signed by a player. Any chance you can make them accept spawned-in written books?
I've uploaded a new version of 1.8 for testing. This version includes purchase logging!
Weird. I'll do some more testing
Thanks for the tip, they're back to normal right now :)
@diannetea
Really? Mine seems to be working fine. Just turn off the chest protection on Shopkeepers, and make people use LWC to lock their chests. Makes for a good mix. :D
Also, look into getting TimedCommands and having it reload Shopkeepers every 10 minutes. (It's lightweight to reload like that, believe it or not) This will fix the villager bug.
It looks like the latest version of bukkit has made the majority of shopkeepers revert into normal villagers
I've recently begun using Grief Prevention, it seems that there are a lot of issues with creating player Shopkeepers in admin claims (that have containertrust set to public) is this fixable?
The real issue is with right-clicking on a chest before creating it. It just isn't working at all
Thanks so much for making this! Is there a way to donate?
I'm hoping 1.8 gets pushed out soon. I really could use those sign shops.
Wow, this plugin is not compatible with so many other plugins, i had to get rid of about 4 plugins from my server to make the villagers actually show up, I would just delete Shopkeepers but i need it so much for my server... Please try fixing this incompatibility issue, driving me and probably alot of other people crazy.
All I needed! Thanks !
Could there be a command to change the type of villagers besides right clicking please?
Ok, I did some testings with the sign shopkeeper (1.8), its awsome! I know its a beta, still, I found some bugs I would like to report:
- There is a little problem when removing it without clicking the fire button. For example, if someone breaks the sign, it will not be removed, but will stay there invisible. If someone breakes the sign, and put a block for example, when someone rightclick the block, the trade GUi will open.
- As I thought, huge bugzor if using this plugin with lockette plugin. See, lockette uses the "right click chest with a sign in hand" to protect the chest (it ataches a sign on the chest), so, if I enable lockette and shopkeepers, none of the two plugins can rightclick a chest with a sign. BUT, if you rightclick the top face of the chest with sign, then both plugin start working for that chest. A way to solve this, is to make a config file, where we can define which iten should be used to rightclick the chest to select it. (emerald, IMO)
- Little enchant duplication bug. Here is how to do it: First, the user put for example, 3 swords on his chest. One is a very good one, has fire aspect, sharpness, knockback and everything. The other 2 swords are a crap, one have smithe, and the other one has sharpness I. When setting the shop, the plugin identifies as 3 diferrent swords, then he puts the price 1 emerald each. Now, he opens his own shop, there will be 3 sword options to buy. He chooses the best one, and even there is only one on the chest (the other 2 swords have lower enchants) he can buy 3 of the best sword.
Also, I would like to request that a buy sign shopkeeper, and permissions nodes, so I can restrict mu players to only creating sign shops.
Thanks for this update, nisovin, its a great plugin <3
@xBladeM6x
i believe its got nothing at all to do with chunks and its just the plugin unloading itself after a random period of time for reasons unknown
@datwerd86
That's what I was thinking. It has something to do with needing to reload it after a set amount of time. I have mine auto-restart the plugin after 10 mins, since I've seen it break that quickly.
Found an bug / annoyance in 1.8. Right clicking anything in the world spams the server log with "right click in block blockworld (coordinates)
Please make "ö,ä,ü" Support, cause it can´t load the language-de file. Or remove the "ö,ä,ü" in the file with "oe,ae,ue".
@nisovin
if its a chunk load/unload issue why do they break when standing at spawn? spawn stays constantly loaded
Great! Cant wait to test this sign shopkeeper.
Also, this probably will have compatibility issues with lockette plugin, if it does what I think it does... Will test in some hours and come back to report.
Thanks, nisovin :3
Is there a buy admin shop permission node? Permission that allow who can buy from admin shop.
If not, can I request this. Thanks.
@Torondork
You can set the currency item in the config file.
@xBladeM6x
It's definitely a chunk load/unload issue, that's how this plugin knows when to spawn the shopkeepers.
@nisovin
From what I understand, it's when players don't get near them for long enough, so they don't "pop" up in the spawn / get refreshed. It doesn't seem to be a chunk unloading problem, but just players not spawning the entities into the chunk often enough. That's why I have it reload all the time, so that it simulates that.
@Torondork
I use LWC too, and I would say disable the plugin's chest protection, and use LWC to protect the chests. This gives people the option to share a shop among friends. Also, yes. You can make ANYTHING the currency with this plugin.
