Receiving damage by another entity might (25% chance) cause you to bleed. Bleeding makes you lose blood - lose all your blood and you're dead!
If you're bleeding, use wool or paper (right-click) to stop it. Each tick, your blood level decreases by one. You start out with a total of 4000 blood.
Use the /blood command to see your current blood level.

how do you get more blood?

Please continue development of this plugin, I love it! Blood should be able to be transfused. Possibly make red die a blood transfusion? Adds 1000 blood. Also, at lower blood levels, movement should be slightly impaired (possible on newest bukkit builds).
Client side blood particles should be shown (Bascially show a bunch of redstone/redwool mix being dropped from the player in trickles. Client side only).

You should use a item that can give you kinda like a blood tranfusion. Like rightclicking an item grants you full or like +1000 blood! Great plugin with potential though!
You should make a config where you can change what item regenarates blood and what patches it . also make it where you can disable it. but it is your plugin so do with it what you want. :)

Yeah, that's how it works.
So you are saying someone can get hit once, have 19 health, then die later bye bleeding out but still have 19 health?

Sure, I can add paper too if that makes more sense. Wool is more accessible, which is why I chose to use it. At the moment, you'll have to make due with the /blood command.
So will the value 4000 somehow be represented by the players hearts? And wouldnt paper make more sense? A bandage?
