SoundCenter
SoundCenter - Music, Sound Effects, Webradio and Voice Chat for Minecraft!
Important
Development for SoundCenter is discontinued, but there is a great alternative that I like to recommend: MCJukebox
Version: v0.3
SoundCenter (formerly CustomMusic) allows you to set music boxes or regions that stream your own music, sound effects or webradio to all players in realtime.
It also implements a simple voice chat for Minecraft.
To use the features that SoundCenter offers, you and everyone who wants to hear music and voice chat must download and use the SoundCenter client.
You do not have to download or install anything. The client is running as a java applet on the website. You will get a message with a link to the client when you join the server. When you follow this link, the client will automatically connect. - Could not be easier.
Here's a video that shows how to use the plugin (Thanks to @jithins):
Development discontinued
Unfortunately I will no longer be able to work or give you support on this project. I am sorry that I couldn't implement all your awesome suggestions.
Thank you for almost 5 years of support, criticism, praise and blame ;) You are awesome!
If you are willing to take over this project, feel free to contact me.
Features
- You can set imaginary jukeboxes, cuboid areas or worlds and biomes as music stations
- You can also use WorldGuard regions as stations
- Stations can either play your own music/ sound effects, or webradio streams
- You can use a command or the client to play songs for yourself, all players in a world, or all players on the server
- You can use any supported audio file that is stored on a public webserver. Filehosters like DropBox will work as well.
- Supported audio formats: MP3, for webradio also OGG
- Everything is easily and intuitively managable with the client's user interface
- Every feature is configurable
- You can limit access with permissions
Extra Features:
- Voice chat
- SoundCenter adds a simple voice chat to your Bukkit server
- You can speak locally (only players that are not far from you can hear you. Volume depends on their distance)
- But you can also speak globally (The whole server can hear you)
- You can disable voice chat on your server if you don't like this feature
- many more to come
How does it work?
Okay so I have SoundCenter installed on my server, what can I do now?
It's easy: Before or after logging into Minecraft, run the SoundCenterClient.jar.
Now you can add songs in the "Music" tab, or add stations in the "Stations" tab. Boxes, areas or WorldGuard regions can be created ingame via /sc set <area|box|wgregion>. That's easier, because the box will be created at your coordinates. You can edit all properties of your stations by pressing the "Edit Station" button in the "Stations" tab.

keep up the good work. When you are done with a stable version, make a tutorial on wiki maybe. Then proceed on the extend features we proposed. I can help you with new ideas. Oh and Merry Christmas
works with Bukkit 1.7.2 perfectly...pls when come next version ?
@Yorkforce
Its not illegal to hear background music in your desktop is it? It would be also illegal to moderate a game. We just customize the game to ourselves ;)
And i deeply believe a good game, is a game with a good audio theme. Minecraft's music is just shitty. We are just correcting it.
@WegFetZ
SoundCenter sounds great (pun intended). I think with 'music' it ruffles a few peoples feathers due to copyright issues which is a bit silly considering the enormous library of licence free music there is available out there not to mention there are many many ways of sharing music illegally without the need to play minecraft and/or download plugins... Considering this free world we apparently live in where we have a justice system that has presumed innocence for hundreds of years, its shocking how many others presume the opposite. I mean you can even just place your own ogg file conversions into minecraft itself and play it server side anyways, why these same people haven't banned minecraft too I'll never know. (well they cant because they wouldn't have a financial partnership with mojang, just makes you want to 'curse') anyhoo...
Sound effects on the other hand are even more widely available in free libraries and so on and from the sounds of your updates this new plugin seems to be somewhat more feature packed than the old one, SoundCenter sounds more accurate :)
@Yorkforce
Sounds great! I hope the plugin will meet your expectations ;) If you will miss anything when the new "core" version is out, let me know and i will do my best to implement it together with all the things on my todo list.
@Noumpas13
You are absolutely right and i will definitely try to find some developers as soon as i have released the first version. I don't think it would make much sense right now.
In the future, the plugin will offer a lot more possibilities, reaching from sound- and audioeffects (on events etc.) right up to the already mentioned surprise-feature. Thus, "SoundCenter" will be a better name for the plugin.
I will add Admin Tools and Role Playing as categories, thanks!
Sounds excellent. Can't wait for the new version!
I am in the same situation like you right now WegFetZ. Hard times withthe University and no time for anything. It would be a wise move to cooperate and find some developer crew to help you with everything. They will solve you problems, give you more free time, help you update and develop much faster, cover you when you are on vacation. This is a BIG plugin, and you are making it on your own. Just make a need for crew request on the forums of bukkit. It will come up handy.
PS What name are you thinking to give the plugin?

@WegFetZ
I think i can speak for many here, we are constantly checking for an update!
To give you some idea of what we want to do, we are planning a 'prison server in space' or as we call it 'Union-One: The Space Adventure'. Your plugin is core to what we would like to add in terms of sound effects which will quite frankly take our adventure to the next level and beyond, adding a level of immersion you just cant get in minecraft right now. We are already a pretty popular server, the storyline is underway in preparation for our 'space age' but we still have a ton to do before that happens.
Your plugin is so incredible and unique that unless any server admins are lucky enough to stumble upon it, it will blow all other servers out the water!
Waiting in anticipation! :)
@namazso I will add the link when i'm done with the new version.
@Noumpas13 I'm still very busy with my studies and work but i'm working on CustomMusic (which will be renamed, by the way) whenever i got some free time. I have not even really played GTA V, which I bought a week after release, because i prefer working on the plugin for you guys ;)
Hey wegFetZ, how is it going?
(also add the categories of the plugin: Admin tools, Role Playing)
Download it online on our Minecraft Server:

@WegFetZ Could you update the github link, please? It's dead
@WegFetZ
Who knows, but alright i understand. :D
@Arton123 There are two reasons against a mod: 1) I'm not experienced in modding and reading into it would need too much time which i don't have 2) Distribution would be even more difficult. I don't think that many people would bother to install the mod
@Noumpas13 I'll add the first suggestion, thanks! The second one is already possible with the old version.
New ideas for to do list:
-link world guard priority if there are 2 regions (1 big that includes one small) the region with the higher priority will cover the music of the other. Example: 1 town with main theme, and houses with different music each that have higher priority and when you walk in them you hear their music.
-option for fade creating 2 regions that one includes the other but you can hear both songs at the same time. This is useful for adding little effects. Like having a theme in a town and add mini music regions (3-4 blocks radius) on NCP's citizens and add conversation sounds, or hammer sound effects outside the blacksmith.
