Bookshelves Advanced
Bookshelves-Advanced
Introduction
The new Minecraft update introduced new writable books which allowed it's players to conjure up fantastic stories, describe detailed redstone blueprints or even sit back and relax after a long day and write about their adventures they had, all within the game. With this new addition I have been inspired to create an immersive experience for players and a touch of realism, without looking out of place what-so-ever. The idea is simple, It allows players to place their written books inside of bookshelves and store them for later.
Features
- Standalone Plugin.
- Stores Books Even After A Reload Or The Server Stops.
- Configuration Is Optional.
- Can Change The Bookcase Size. (Multiple of 9, up to 54)
- Uses It's Own GUI.
- Only Stores Written Books.
Installation
To install the plugin is simple, all you need to do is download the 'Bookshelves-Advanced.jar' and place it into the 'plugins' folder. Then reload or restart the server and it's ready to go! If you want the size of the bookshelf, navigate to the 'Bookshelves-Advanced' folder and open the 'config.yml' in a text editor and change the settings to your preference. It should explain itself inside the file.
Update please! Does it work on 1.5.1 though?
This error on 1.4.6

Could you add MySQL support?
Can we read files as books? For example the plugins\Factions\conf.json file, can it be seen in a book ? Or is this a silly idea? I haven't yet tested how books work in minecraft, go figure;)
@octagami
Thanks, I believe that will be sufficient
@ourmcserver
It does stop pistons from pushing/pulling bookshelves, but only if they contain books.
From the author's source:
Does this stop pistons from pushing bookshelves? This is important because many people use piston-bookshelves to control enchantment levels and for secret entrances. Thanks
Any chance of making it so if a book isn't placed back into the bookshelf after a certain amount of time, a copy is put into its place?
More specifically, I am planning on a server with a library of written books by some friends. I would like to make it so this library can be use indefinitely without the risk of people taking all the books and running away with them and never putting them back.
I would love to see an mod that uses bookshelves like a chest but for books only. When a signed book is placed inside of the bookshelf, a check is done to see if that book exists in a database of books on the server. If there isn't a signed book with that name, a copy of the book is made in the database. After a configurable amount of time after a book has been removed from the bookshelf, if it hasn't been put back, a copy, pulled from the database is put back in the bookshelf. That way people can keep books if they want, and other players can still read the stories, or people can put them back when they are done and there aren't 100's of copies all over the place.
Also having it set up with permissions for removing books, placing existing books back, and placing new books, and creating refilling bookshelves (so people can still have 1:1 bookshelves without the refilling) would be handy.
56 is not a multiple of 9; 54 is the max. You might want to fix that in the description.
Also, could we right-click while holding tools/swords? They're not placeable blocks.
@RedScope53
it does not use spout it is a standalone plugin.
I knew this would be done! Thank you very much!
..Cant use it yet as Spout needs updating.. only downside to a heavily modded Spout server...
@graveXrobber
Yeah but this is to allow you to place blocks beside the bookshelf
Works fine for me, only request that I would have is if we could open it up with more than just a fist.
Book duplication when destroy bookshelf with books and place new bookshelf
@renadi
How did that work out for you?
an item with a custom gui using just bukkit?
I must try this...
Looking forward to a download link!
