I am very proud to announce the official launch of Curse Client v4 Early Access Beta!
The New Client is Born
After the launch of Curse Client 3.0, we began taking notes on the most frequent user requests, complaints, and general feedback. The result of this feedback is version 4. In development since May, version 4 of the Curse Client has been redesigned from the ground up. Written in C# and utilizing Microsoft WPF technology, the Curse Client now sports a modern user interface and an entirely new set of features.
- AddonSync - Keep your addons in sync across multiple game installs and computers. Backup and restore addon settings, automatically.
- UI Wizard - Create your own UI packs, and share them with your friends.
- Addon Icons - All addons now have icons for better identification and visual feedback.
- Integrated Bug Reporting - To assist authors in identifying issues and handling feature requests, the new Curse Client now includes an integrated bug reporting module.
- New Scanning Technology - Checking for addon updates now only takes a couple of seconds, and uses a fraction of the CPU as version 3.
- Small Memory Footprint - The new client has been optimized to fit within a tiny 1 to 3 megabyte footprint (when idle) and 1 megabyte when trayed.
- Better Customization - Choose the information you want to see in your addons list, the number of simultaneous downloads and even your UI theme (two in beta, with more to come).
- Better Searching - Search addons by name, category and author, instantly.
- Better Security - The Curse Client is now digitally signed by VeriSign to ensure authenticity. Additionally, all client-to-server communication has been secured with HTTPS-level encryption.
Below are instructions for how you can get into the early access beta, as well as screenshots showcasing the new client.
A native, Cocoa-based Mac client has also been in development, and will soon be entering beta.
Installing the Beta
Simply download the installer from http:clientupdate.curse.com/setup.exe and run it. The installer will verify a compatible version of .Net is on your computer, and update it if necessary. Depending on what version of .Net is installed on your computer, this process can take anywhere from 30 seconds to 5 minutes.
How to Report Bugs & Feedback
Please report all bugs using the integrated bug reporting tool. This will automatically include a snapshot of the Curse Client log data, as well as your operating system information. We're excited to hear what you think about the new Curse Client.

Posted Nov 24, 2009It would be nice if there was a linux client. Or something better than clicking on 30 links to update my addons every weeks. No V3 doesn't work even with IE6 installed using winetricks.
Looks like I may have to set up a windows virtual machine and share the folder with the guest and tell the updater to use that. Seems like a lot of overkill for something that could be done with a bit of rate limiting and connection tracking (see contrack in iptables). A premium client could be offered using something like ssh port forwarding to auth the user.
I'm betting posting about a linux client is a bit of a no-no guessing by previous posts for older versions. Also if this was a java app it would be at least as portable (and the code would not be visible).

Posted Nov 4, 2009I started Curse client ver. 4.0.14 today and it told me it was updating to ver. 4.0.16. after a few seconds a small window popped up quickly, to quick to read, and then I was back on my desk top. When i try to run it now nothing happens. If i try to reinstall it tells me that there is an issue but only gives me an ok button. It also will not uninstall.

Posted Sep 23, 2009The 'automatic' installer fails spectacularly on Linux. Just give us a simple archive that can be unpacked into a folder and have it work there. You can even test how it will work by using the Windows version of Mono - the open source .Net implementation that works in Win, Lin and Mac.

Posted Sep 23, 2009I installed The program last night and it worked perfectly fine. then when i started my comp back up today it wouldn't start the client, i watched my processes over the task manager and it wont even start a process or anything and if it does the process instantly disappears. I even tried to reinstall it but that didn't help either.
anyone know what the problem could be?

Posted Sep 22, 2009How do i get it to automatically install apps, either from here on WowAce or from Curse? Attempting to do so now, simply downloads a *.ccip file, that is not associated with an app. Nor can i find the app, within my file associations selector. Using Win7 x64.

Posted Sep 20, 2009@BaDiX: Very unlikely. You're the only report I've seen of around 10k people using it. The client itself doesn't contain any virus server side.
It is possible that the client became infected on your local machine but that's not saying it's the source of the virus.

Posted Sep 15, 2009Is there a way to use addon sync with only certain addons? I often use a laptop when I travel and it's a different resolution than my desktop. I'd like to sync my ItemRack outfits, ArkInventory config, etc, but I don't want to sync my unit frames because they're set up completely different.
