Quote of the day
It is a simple plugin that will display a message for people who join the server. Everyone who has this plugin will receive the same message and every 24 hours (approx) the quote will be changed.
This works by communicating with a server that tells it exactly what today's quote is and every 20 - 28 hours I will personally change it. This plugin is lightweight and will not cause lag for your server. It will check for a new message every other time a player logs in (unless altered in config) so no need to reset the server for the new quote of the day.
- No profanity, E rated quotes
- Reliable service
- Safe to use
- Give your players something to inspire them
Commands:
/qotd - Will re-send the quote if it is desired to be read again
Permissions:
qotd.read - Allows person to see quote upon login qotd.cmd - Allows person to use quote command
Config:
qotd_check: 2 - How often you want it to check for a new quote (determined by number of players logging in) (min num = 1) activate_plugin: true - Leave this set to true unless there is a problem with connecting to the server update_check: true - Checks for updates, notifies plugin/you when a change in the service has been made (recommended)
Example: 1 = check every login, 2 = check every other login, 4 = every fourth login
NOW IN SERVERS NEAR YOU
This plugin is no longer active. If you wish to take over the quotes/plugin contact me at my email [email protected].
Looks cool. If anyone is interested, heres the fetch URL https://sites.google.com/site/mystuffisbest/downloads/qotd.html
I really like this.
I would look into online databases of quotes that you can tap into, or already configured "qotd" websites that you can just jump onto and grab THEIR quote of the day. But this is really great otherwise.
Thanks for making this!

I can understand your concern, but realisticly, I can't put anything obsene because bukkit will remove my plugin (most likely).
The way I see it is that it gives everyone, (including the server owner) something to look forward too and something that makes people come on more often. People will go on thinking "let me just see what today's quote is." and will wind up staying on the server for another hour.
Like I said though, in a future release I will probably add a manual option and possibly allow people to create there own servers (this will be done by changing a future config option to the location of the external server)
Right now, this is experimental, just a way to see how well people respond.
Unfortunately I'm with rlgura on this one. If I can't see a database of quotes, I won't use it.
I also don't think I can rely on a sole person to manually change the quote every day for the next few years.
@rlgura
I don't make any quotes that shouldn't be viewed by anyone over 6. All quotes are universaly apropriate, however, I might consider your idea and make a manual option or create a second plugin.
Cool idea, but no way in the Nether I'm letting someone I don't know control the quotes!
You'd be much better off making this pull from a local file with options: numbered quote for specific days, random, add some variables (%username%, %servername%, etc)

The plugin doesn't actually have pre-specified text, it is just stuff that I manually write into a server that changes the plugin, however you're both correct about my spelling error.
To be honest, I had troubble getting the code to work at first and by the time I got it to, I had already re-written it multiple times. I was so happy when It finally read the message correctly from the file on the internet, I must have overlooked it. --
(the only reason that is the demo was because it was the first quote I wrote for testing)
@DekuHero
It actually should be "You're -too- slow". And yes, once I noticed the grammar errors my intentions to even try this were killed. Literally.
In the picture above it says "your to slow -Sonic T. Hedgehog." Should be You're to slow -Sonic T. Hedgehog.
Seeings how that is your preview picture for the plugin, it turned me off from even trying it due to the good possibility that most quotes would be grammatically incorrect.
If anyone is like me I am sure it might do the same to them as well. Just letting you know of the mistake.
