Plugin: TrainCarts - Linked Minecarts, sign-redstone systems, easy to use and realistic
Version: v1.73.0
Build: 1.7.2 R0.1/R0.2
Incompatible with: RailCraft
Description
This plugin looks for suitable Minecarts and links them together if possible. When two Minecarts are being "linked", the Minecarts will act as one single moving train.
Once carts are successfully linked, an effect is played and their velocity is shared in combination with an individual factor for each Minecart, which is used to remain a steady gap between carts. This gap is adjustable, the force at which this happens as well.
End result: a train! You can move it, make a roller-coaster out of it, split it in half, watch trains collide, whatever you want to do with trains. :)
As for 1.21, it is also possible to safely exit your train by setting an exit offset with a (sideways) push factor for the train. This feature is disabled by default. (only affects dropped items). If you want to display arrival times on signs (see redstone circuit part) you need SignLink, see the downloads on the bottom of the page.
As for 1.35 you can set train properties to make 'special' trains, or to 'finalize' a train

Note that I would prefer having comments, bug reports and others in the main Bukkit page, since I visit that site the most. :)
Addons
Special Addons for TrainCarts
Features
- Link minecarts using collision: no commands needed to make a train
- Move trains as easily as you would with single Minecarts
- Store trains to file for persistence during reloads and server restarts
- Use sign-redstone circuits for subway systems, complete railroads and much more
- Station to gracefully stop and launch trains
- Spawn
- Teleport
- Property setters
- Tag systems to switch certain tracks based on tags on the train
- Destination systems to make your train travel to far-away lands all on it's own
- Supports Minecart Mania's features
- Infinite minecart speeds are possible
- Push-away: Push mobs, players and items away from your trains to keep them running
- Everything is configurable, if something proves not to be, I will make it that way
FAQ
When players are near, trains reach their destinations. With no one near, they don't. What do I do?
By default trains do not keep chunks loaded, and they will unload once they move into unloaded chunks. To make trains keep the chunk area (and themselves) around them loaded, set the 'keepchunksloaded' property to True. This can be done using the /train keepchunksloaded true command, using a property sign or by changing it to true in the DefaultTrainProperties.yml file. For more information about train properties, see here.
Why not boats?!?!
Incompatibilities
If you have another plugin that performs similar Minecart replacement techniques, it is likely that TrainCarts will not function or function poorly. For the 'chunk persistence' part of this plugin, other plugins that unload chunks without firing events result in this feature failing. Minebackup is known for having this problem.
Metrics
This plugin sends server count statistics to MCStats.org. You can (globally) opt out in the PluginMetrics/config.yml file.
Looks like TrainCarts 1.73.0 works fine with BKC 1.59 on MC 1.7.10
Not spigot 1.8 tho
@lenis0012
Wait so you will continue to update Train Carts until sponge is released?
A quick message for you guys here :)
I will continue support for Bukkit until versions for Sponge are released
I can currently not provide a development build website atm.
But a 1.7.10 build has been submitted to BKCommonLib.
Ill do some testing this weekend and support the 1.8 spigot
Can you upload the sourcecode??
@bergerkiller
Instead of it being a server side plugin why can't traincarts be re-built as a Forge Mod instead?
I'm sorry to see it die like this on Bukkit, but it doesn't come entirely as a surprise to me. The problems 'we' (I've been working hard on IRL matters personally) ran into while keeping it up-to-date was everything from altered entity attributes to altered server mechanics. Bukkit did not make it easy for 'us' to keep it updated in it's final breaths.
I understand people want this plugin to continue for Bukkit, but as it is now, the only option is to move to a platform that is supported. Maintaining the same project on both Sponge and the older Bukkit version is going to take too much time for the small development team we got. If people wish to stick to Bukkit, I strongly recommend going a whole lot of versions back when TrainCarts (and Bukkit itself) was far more stable.
Supporting the 'future' is far more constructive than meddling around in the past, is my personal opinion. Still, it is part of my past I see dying, so I do feel some form of sadness. I just hope the best for everyone involved.
@cherbert
Issue with bukkit now is because its dead, many developers etc. have moved on or left to provide their plugins for servers on future platforms because bukkit won't be updating to 1.8. I actually am more appreciative that they are still continuing this project on another platform compared to abandoning it completely. Yes, you are right. Servers do live on, but how long will it be before they want to upgrade to 1.8 only to find that there is no bukkit version for it? The needs of the many outdo the needs of the few. Which is why they are looking into the future platforms for minecraft servers.
@timstans
and why should I invest my time in your plugins on any further platforms if you abandon them like this? Bukkit maybe dead but many servers live on. Thanks for your lack of support. Don't expect me to invest any more of my time in your plugins in the future.
Update: I solved this problem and edited the page for the Destroy sign.
I would like to get empty trains to be destroyed when they pass over a particular spot. The use case is that when a train leaves a station empty, it is deleted. .
Quoting from http:minecraft.gamepedia.com/Bukkit/TrainCarts/Signs/Statements:
Remove empty minecarts
If the minecart contains no passenger, a destructor sign is powered.
but how?
I can make a switch sign detect the empty train:
[+train]
switcher
l:empty
f:!empty
then route the empty train over a 'destroy' sign, but isn't there an easier way?
Thanks

@Silverwolv
We are trying to continue our projects not on bukkit but sponge
Will there be someone willing to continue the project?
@cherbert
Thanks for the reply. We couldn't get traincarts and bkcommonlibrary to work on craftbukkit 1.7.10 either. Because someone mentioned that it is working on 1.7.10, we just assumed that something was wrong with us and stuck with the 1.7.9 version.
For our current work around, we have persistent spawning trains and we clear all trains out upon server restart via a command scheduler; the system has yet to jam up since. It is rather inconvenient to remember to do /train destroyall after every manual hard restart though but it's a small price to pay for such a hawt plugin.
Thanks again. If someone doesn't have this issue, we would appreciate a response and what you are doing differently to overcome it.
@lagoboss
I needed to run Cauldron 1.7.10 and traincarts / bkcommon won't run on it so I had to abandon it. However, I still hope they dev fixes it. When I did have it running I do recall having issues of the carts stopping after a reboot although I'm sure I fixed it by giving each train a specfic route between two stations.
@cherbert
Hey cherbert, do you have issues with trains not resuming after stopping the server and starting it on 1.7.9?
To my knowledge, lenis0012 is still working on the plugin as of 31 August 2014. I don't want to burden lenis0012 with an unneeded ticket if our server and test servers are just experiencing the bug and no one else is.
Thanks for your time,
Lago
@leagris
Just because bukkit is no longer being supported doesn't mean there aren't still thousands of servers out there using it. I think its piss poor all these devs abandoning their plugins so quickly.
You are all aware CraftBukkit, Spigot and Cauldron are dead from licencing issues, developers maintainers left, bergerkiller was last seen Jul 22, 2014 on this forum and Traincarts was marked as inactive plugin.
Move-on to new projects or wait for the new Minecraft owner to actually do something.
If you want to play with linked carts trains in Minecraft, go modded Traincraft, Railcraft, Steve Carts on Forge or this new Sponge project.
Please update to 1.7.10.
Is anyone else still experiencing http://dev.bukkit.org/bukkit-plugins/traincarts/tickets/75-trains-do-not-continue-movement-after-server-start/ on craftbukkit 1.7.9 and the appropriate train carts for this version?
We just want a consensus before re-reporting an old bug.
Running build #51 the console gets flooded with these errors whenever a cart is placed.
When are u going to update to 1.8?!?!?
