Storm
Ever bored with the vanilla weather? Storm is a plugin that adds a whole new range of weather mechanics to Bukkit servers.
Features
- Acid Rain: Green rain, which damages players and animals, as well as deteriorates blocks. Turn a 'grey day' into a 'radioactive-green' day!
- Blizzards: Makes snow a real threat! Players and entities caught outside during a blizzard will experience snow acting as slow sand, limited visibility, and cold damage, so long as they are not inside or near a heating block.
- Thunder Storms: If supercharged creepers were not already a threat, how will your players react to hordes of zombie pigmen? Thunder storms are massive discharges of lightning over a short period of time, in which players will be hard-pressed to survive.
- Meteors: Fireballs trailed by explosions, burrowing in the ground, and flattening all entities in their path. Players who survive, however, can delight themselves with the ores the meteor leaves behind.
- Wildfires: We can all safely say vanilla fires are boring. To spice up the game, we've added wildfires; a naturally occurring event in which entire forests will be devoured by fire with pre-1.6B physics.
- Earthquakes: With massive rifts opening up, screens shaking, and blocks flying about, Storm earthquakes will be an experience for your players to remember. Seems to be bugging in Version2.3
- Volcanoes: Large mounds of lava spurting out of the ground, explosions and flying lava bombs. Fun, fun, fun. Seems to be bugging in Version2.3
Getting started with Storm
If you are a visual learner, this video by WoopaGaming is for you! Some information is outdated, but the gist remains the same.
You can gain some more in-depth information from this "Curse Minecraft Spotlight" on Storm, as it presents most of the features of Storm in a nice format. Thanks to Xenius01 of Curse for this one!
Storm has a command for all its weather types:
Command | Usage | Permission | Description |
---|---|---|---|
/acidrain | /<command> [world] | storm.acidrain.command | Starts acid rain in specified world. |
/blizzard | /<command> [world] | storm.blizzard.command | Starts a blizzard in specified world. |
/thunderstorm | /<command> [world] | storm.thunderstorm.command | Starts a thunder storm in specified world. |
/wildfire | /<command> [world] | storm.wildfire.command | Starts a wildfire where player is looking at. |
/meteor | /<command> [world] | storm.meteor.command | Spawns a meteor and targets the block the player is looking at. |
/volcano | /<command> [world] | storm.volcano.command | Spawns a volcano at the targeted block. |
/earthquake | /<command> [world] | storm.earthquake.command | Spawns a earthquake at the targeted block. |
/cracks | /<command> [world] | storm.earthquake.command | Spawns a crevice at the targeted block. |
And immunity permissions from their associated weathers:
Immunity | Permission | Description |
---|---|---|
Acid Rain Damage | storm.acidrain.immune | Prevents damage from acid rain. |
Blizzard Damage | storm.blizzard.immune | Prevents damage from blizzards. |
Lightning Attraction | storm.lightning.immune | Prevents extra damage from lightning & lightning attraction. |
Meteor Damage | storm.meteor.immune | Prevents damage from meteor shockwaves. |
If Storm doesn't load, first, make sure that you are running a compatible build of Storm. For example, 0.1.2 will run only on Bukkit 1.4.6, while 0.1.2 R1 will only run on 1.4.7. You can see the supported versions in the Files menu. If that doesn't work or Storm throws exceptions, leave a ticket.
When asking for support...
...please answer the following questions: they help us get back to you quicker and consequently address any issues faster.
- What Storm version are you running? Be specific.
- What server implementation are you running (usually CraftBukkit)?
- What Minecraft version are you running?
- What is the issue you are experiencing?
- Provide a traceback, if the issue is a crash and a log is available.
Hey I am Running spigot 1.8 and this plugin half works for me, no meteor, volcano, earthquakke, cracks, just rain, storms, and blizzards.. HELP PLEASE!
Love the thoughts behind the plugin, but getting it to agree with my server is a pain atm and idk what else im doing wrong or could be etc.
@god1sdead
I'm the original author of Storm, and though I no longer maintain it I check IIMewII's work as he updates the plugin. He has not made any significant changes to the original Storm code (yet); instead he's admirably updated it so that it can run on 1.8 servers.
Essentially, by claiming this plugin "hacks your server" (note that I deleted your earlier comment: that should've been a hint), you're accusing me, not IIMewII, of being shady. And that's not cool.
Storm has been up for over two years now, and not once has there been any incident. On top of this, the BukkitDev staff manually verify a plugin's integrity before it becomes available to the public, so the chances of any illegitimate code passing through their filter is small.
The bottom line is that without any proof you're only making yourself look silly while ticking me off. If you have some beef with IIMewII, take it up with him directly; don't spam this plugin page. Doing so is just childish.
OK Build coming out earthquakes working but blocks are not getting modified I just finished exams so Ill be working harder on storm with the update coming tommorrow. ATM a fully compatible is having start up issues so yea... We are working as hard as possible to get 100% working storm
Any ETA?
@Dillzzzzz
Yes, you also get a separate config for each world to adjust probability and enable/disable stuff.
Might get this. But is there a way to disable certain weather and enable some?
@IIMewII
Awesome to hear, I've been checking every day (sometimes more often). Can't wait for the update! :D
Awesome news 1.7.9 coming a full storm support with all storms in 1.8 coming soon aswell!!! We are also now running Spigot rather than craftbukkit so I recommend switching for full support with bugs ect.
Anyway great Plugin
I am running on CB 1.7.9-R.02 and still no meteors, earthquakes, volcanoes and cracks.
@dark_miner42
We are already aware as I have said below a update is in the works to fix earthquakes, meteors, a addition to wildfire, and a new storm
/meteor and /earthquake dont work in 1.8

@IIMewII
Config or in-game would be cool, doesn't matter to me personally, either way it'd be an amazingly handy feature to have. Thanks for working on a 1.7.10 version, looking forward to it! :)
@adamk523
This seems like a really good idea for a turnoff you can perform. So would you guys like a config option or a DDMC in-game? And I am currently working on a 1.7.10 but since this plugin is made outta mine-craft exploits I am looking for a way to make it perform in 1.8.
Also looking for dev's to assist me in any way if interested PM me thanks!!
Shoot, I have one final request... I'm still running 1.7.10, and trying to update to 1.8 ASAP. The 3 coolest disasters have always been labeled as volatile, but why? Are they dependent on the Minecraft core code rather than the Bukkit API, and require absolute compatibility to run or else cause a greater server disaster than a volcano? If at all possible, bearing in mind the potential risk to your server/world, it would be wonderful to have an option to turn off that failsafe and risk the consequences. However, if it's almost completely guaranteed not to run, I'll just bite the bullet and update to 1.8 as soon as possible.
A feature like this might give greater compatibility between server versions as well, seeing as there was never a 1.7.10 release and the plugin's rigidity made it difficult to keep current. Would this feature be worth it?
If anyone has a server and they would like help in any time i get not working on the plugin and real life I can join you and assist were I can.
@IIMewII
Oh my gosh, thank you so much!!! :D Just in time, I was pining for this plugin when setting up Splated's Solar Apocalypse and missing my volcanoes/meteors. Thanks!!
@adamk523
Update on Storm hope you like it!
Good news earthquake and cracks should have a update in a few days.
Considering that I am recoding them it could be up to a month since I am also building in a API support.
