Player Count Message
Player Count Message
- now animated

Thanks for 20k+ downloads
made from my config
Intro
This is my first plugin and has grown much beyond my original sights and has grown in size by a factor of 20 reaching into the 10's of thousands of downloads. The plugin has recently been adapted to allow animated server pings with moving text and a gif for the server Icon. I saw someone was offering an animated config for $12 a download and I thought, I can do that and better, for free. Then, the mega-upgrade of my original plugin had begun and hopefully you will enjoy the fruits of my work. So, if you want an animated ping for you minecraft motd, you've come to the right place.
Also, the old config (earlier than v4.0) has been replaced by a new file. The server will not atuo-transfer from the old config. And I got rid of the motd.txt file.
Note, you need Protocol lib to run this plugin

UPDATE
Hello, I would like to apologize to anyone that wanted to use this plugin. The latest version of minecraft broke this plugin (that was a few months ago). I was discouraged by this so much that I just abandon the project and refused to look at it. This is unacceptable behavior from a content creator and I shouldn't have acted this way. I will post the source code for the broken plugin soon. This code will not work but anyone can see the code that made the magic work (undocumented scrawl is the real magic. I will never document it... that is way too much work for the time I have now). Hopefully this will be of some consolation. I may change the software so that it will work as the initial versions did without the animation. Apparently 37k of you have downloaded the software and I thank you for your support and not reporting me constantly for the small support that I have given.
here is the source code:
bukkit: https://github.com/nicholas-maltbie/PlayerCountMessage
bungee: https://github.com/nicholas-maltbie/Player-Count-Message-Bungee
Feel free to modify, copy or update the code as you please; I only request that you cite me. Also, if you make any cool projects with my work, send me a like and I'd love to see what you have made.
Hi I'm getting this error when trying to load:
@TheDarthFalcon
do the command '/pcm motd disable'
Hey great plugin, but in the default MOTD it says the message "to change the motd, do /pcm help." How do I change that back to whatever my motd was before? I put one in through the default server properties folder
@flyguy23ndm
My hosted server is running on: Linux (amd64) version 2.6.18-371.1.2.el5
At home my test server runs on Windows 7 64bit (no problems here), but I suppose the invalid MotD.txt file name only happens in linux.
Probably the path string is formatted as MS Windows not Linux style.
@tjbruce
Alright, that is a flaw. I will work out that glitch, but until then you can do '/essentials:motd' and it will work as long as you don't have another plugin named essentials.
Thanks for telling me this :)
/motd has stopped working for essentials. Please can you fix? Thanks.
A cool feature to add would be randomly changing motd's and pcm's
@Buzonyx
what is your os? i need to do maintenance on the plugin but I have been distracted recently.
Running on a 1.7.9 server I got a file named "PlayerCountMessage\MotD.txt" wich I can't edit or delete, seems the plugin is creating an invalid file name.
I looked inside the PlayerCountMessage.jar and the ServerPing.class with an hex editor and I found this string: "a/lang/StringBuilder;......\MotD.txt..." then changed \MotD.txt to /MotD.txt and now the file is created correctly on my server.
@mentox2011
yes, working on 1.7.9
Hi, does this awesome plugin works with 1.7.9?
@Jimieo
I don't quite understand that error, can you explain to me what you're doing and tell me when you hit the error in the process.
I am also having this "PlayerCountMessage\MotD.txt" issue. This file behaves like a directory. When I try to delete it, I get an error telling me that no such file or directory exists.
I am on the latest version of the plugin as of June 17th
Ok now it works thanks :D
@NoHoPeLess
I just tested it, I that doesn't happen to me. Set it to false with the command '/pcm motd disable' and not directly in the text file because it saves whatever is currently loaded in the memory of the server in the txt file when it restarts. Or shut down the server, exit the txt file, then start it up. I made sure that feature worked. If you need more help, I could talk to you over Skype or we could start a conversation with pms.
I mean i set it to false / disabled but when i restart (in the config = false) it displayed the standard motd... i have nothing changed.
@NoHoPeLess
That shouldn't happen. You probably deleted the file MotD.txt and it reset to defaults (which are wrong but whatever) and if you didn't pm me with the exact problem. I will look into it and give you a response. Everything about the MotD is saved in that text file and if you delete the file, it will reset back to it's defaults which is enabled.
/pcm motd disable wont work correctly... aftzer an restart it set to their defaults.... and it displayed the standard....-.-
<3 this plugin.
553 Prohibited file name: PlayerCountMessage\MotD.txt cant edit the Motd text file, (is this intended) all i wanted to do was try to find out how to add the second line /n didn't seem to work, is there anyway to delete this file now or is it stuck there forever. https://www.dropbox.com/s/xyx7ybmky3kw9wd/2014-06-08_22-57-54.png
