How do I create and place Chests?

Creating chests can be accomplished all from in game. Type in "/omz config" to open up the configuration page.
Click "chests."
Click "create a chest."
Configure the following settings by clicking on them and then typing in a new setting for them.
Chest Name: one word, something descriptive. Set to "example-number-number" by default.
Respawn Rate: the number of server ticks until a chest respawns. On most servers, 20 ticks = 1 second. So 6000 ticks is about 5 minutes.
Minimum/Maximum Item Amount: The min/max amount of items that spawn when a chest spawns. For instance, if the minimum is 1 and the maximum is 5, then chests of this type that spawn will have between one and five items.
Zombie Tier: Roughly matches the amount of zombies that will spawn when a chest spawns. 0 means very few zombies (0 - 3), 5 is about 10-15. Anything higher than 5 is getting pretty crazy.

Now you need to set up each chest will a pool of possible loot spawns. To do this, go to the previous menu and select "Edit the item in my hand."
Now you can add up to 3 custom tags to the item in your hand:
Probability: How many "probability points" this piece of loot gets.
Think of probability points this way: when openMZ wants to spawn a piece of loot, it reaches into an imaginary bag of all the possible loot and picks out a random amount. The "probability points" represent how many pieces of the same loot are thrown into that bag. For instance, if you set a fish to probability = 50 and a piece of bread to probability 50, then then the "bag" has 50 fish and 50 bread in it. Each item has a 50/100 = 50% chance of being picked out.
Min/Max durability: If you are spawning a tool or armor, these values will control what durability it spawns at (from 0, none, to 100, brand new).
You should try to make all of the items of that chest type add up to 100. Then, 1 probability point = 1% chance of spawning.
You can remove a tag at any time by setting it's value to negative 1 (-1).
You can check a tag at any time just by mousing over the item. The tag is added to the item's lore.

OpenMZ will also save enchantments, effects, most of other plugins custom items (including guns), etc.

When you have all of your items configured to your liking in your inventory, go back to the "chest creation" page and click "save." The chest is now placeable.

How do I place Chests?

Make sure you have the omz.chest permission. Type in "/omz config", click "chests," click "place a chest," and enter in a chest name.
You'll get a "seed chest" in your inventory. When you place this chest, it will disappear until it respawns again (whatever you set the respawn rate to).
If you need to check where you've placed chests, click "force respawn of nearby chests." All chests in a 50 block range will appear.
If you need to remove a chest, click "chest removal mode" to turn it on. Go into creative and break a chest with your fist. It will be removed permanently. Make sure to turn this setting off when you're done!

What is 'Zombie Focus?'

To make the game harder as you venture into more dangerous areas, zombie pigmen can spawn. OpenMZ needs to be told where "spawn" is and where to start spawning pigmen.

Go to your spawn, type "/omz config", click "useful commands," and click "zombie focus."
Now you need to set up exactly how dangerous it gets out there. Open up the config again, click "settings," click "zombies", and click PIGMAN_CHANCE. This is the maximum chance of pigmen spawning at the most dangerous parts of your map. The default is 2, that is, 2 percent. Even that can become very dangerous! Click "back," and then click "PIGMAN_RANGE". This is the distance from the spawn (where you're standing) to the furthest edge of the map.

If everything is set properly, zombie pigmen will now spawn naturally as you get further and further from spawn.
