NickNames
NickNames is a simple plugin, that adds support for nicknames into the game. These nicknames persist over server restarts, and can be coloured. Display name, tab-list name, and name in join and quit messages are currently affected by nicknames.
Commands:
- /nick - Basic nick command.
- /nick <nickname> - Changes your nick to <nickname>.
- /nick <playername> <nickname> - Changes <playername>'s nick to <nickname>.
- /nick off - Removes your nick.
- /nick off <playername> - Removes nickname for <playername>.
- /nicknames - Displays plugin information.
- /nicknames lookup <nickname> - Looks up a username from a nickname.
Permissions
- nicknames.nick - Can change any nicks.
- nicknames.nick.self - Can change own nick.
- nicknames.nick.other - Can change other's nicks.
- nicknames.lookup - Can lookup people based on their nicknames
Config
As of version 2.3, there are two configuration options. In v2.2, the only option is allow-duplicate-nicknames, which determines whether the plugin will allow multiple players having the same nickname. Note that it is recommended to set this to false as it prevents use of the lookup command. In v2.3 the option join-and-quit-message-colour is added to stop nickname colour from taking over the message. It defaults to the default colour (yellow).
allow-duplicate-nicknames: false # &e is yellow join-and-quit-message-colour: &e

Oh can i do Space in my name?
Is this compatible with spigot 1.7.10 I see to get a lot of errors when /nick'ing someone.
lol anyone can give me ip i so i can be co-owner?
And bukkit tell me to take off unrelated Categories?
@Dcastle789
You need to set up permissions for other people to be able to use the command in the server. I personally installed the PermissionsEx plugin for that, then set up my permissions.yml inside PermissionsEx's folder like so. The default permissions functionality provided by Bukkit/Spigot never worked for me. If you want to restrict the nickname commands to certain groups of people, you'll have to read up on how to write these permissions.yml files, as my example in the link simply provides the ability for everyone to nickname themselves. I run a small server, so this is what we preferred. Hope this helped ya out.

Wheneer I type in /nick, it says it is an unknown command. plea help
@madtomic
Feel free to decompile it and do it yourself but I won't be doing that myself.
Is it possible to make this for CB1.7.2-r0.3?
@ThisUsernameIsMine
In the latest version (v2.3 - currently undergoing approval from Bukkit) colour codes are supported. Spaces aren't supported (at least not for now) because it would be difficult to determine what the user is trying to do.
For example, how do I determine whether '/nick Mr Guy' is attempting to set the nick of 'Mr' to 'Guy' or attempting to set the sender's name to 'Mr Guy'?
@FedeLasse
In the latest version (v2.3 - currently undergoing approval from Bukkit) join and leave messages are supported. Book titles aren't supported yet but I may look to add them in the future.
It'd be really, really swell if you added the option to have the join and leave messages filtered too, so the nickname appears like "<nickname> joined the server" and "<nickname> left the server" instead of the normal join and quit messages that show the original Minecraft username. If people want to know who the person's Minecraft name is, they can always use the lookup function. Please do consider my suggestion to add this feature. It'd make this plugin complete in my eyes.
Another thing that would be nice is if the "by <name>" titles of books are filtered as well so the nickname appears in place. Again, if possible.
How about adding support for colour(code)s and the ability to use (white)spaces in names? ;)
@RustyDagger
Latest version supports tab list name changing (not approved yet). And which command gives that error? If you mean the lookup command, are you sure you typed /nicknames lookup and not /nick lookup?
@RageOzara
There is no functionality in the plugin which requires the user to wait before changing nicks. This could be another plugin on your server, perhaps?
Hello. Great plugin, btw. Just one question, I am testing things on my server, where I am op, but it says I have to wait before changing my nick again. Is there any way to bypass that as a admin?
Thanks
@PandazNWafflez
using that tells me player off is currently offline.. Seems to be working Great M8
Bravo IDIOT did you even LOAD your latest version before releasing it you Have put invalid YML inside the plugin.yml.....
here is the error...

now excuse me while i go fix the YML. and re to my server.
you missed a : on the second last line of the file.
Also why do nick names not show on the tab list? kinda defeats the point.
