MapEdit
MapEdit
MapEdit is a way to send data to maps. It finds what you set in the config, and adds the effect to all players with permission. One of the major features of this plugin is that it tracks player movement, much like the maps on the Xbox360 version of Minecraft. MapEdit can replace online maps such as DynMap, and won't cause lag.
Features:
- Player-Tracking
- Full permissions
- Full configuration
- Player colors
- Almost exact in accuracy
Player Tracking
This plugin allows maps to track players. Players that are in the same world can be seen on the map as a cursor similar to your own. Your cursor will be white, and the other cursors will be the default color of the server or the color the player has permission for.
Startup Map
When a new player joins the game, they will be given a map. If they are not new to the server, they will not be given a map.
Default Scale
The scale of all maps on the server can be automatically set, and can even be made smaller.
MapEdit has proven to be a challenge. Many things involved in MapEdit are not written anywhere, therefore, this plugin has taken me a decent amount of time. I have managed to add functionality to something I never thought possible, until I looked into the bukkit documentation. If you believe I have created a masterpiece, please click the donate button at the top of the screen!
@legomen4213 What do you mean? If you enable stuff in the config, it should track players, or change the map scale, or give new players a map.
how do you change the map stuff
@TerraVale Yeah, should be interesting. You can have your own little command center with a monitoring wall for all your cities. Should be an exciting update!
@Jnorr44
Hey now, no need to be sorry - a big part of it is that you tried, and that is much appreciated especially with all of the background work you have on the go right now; I'm positive all users of mapedit can understand this. If not, that would be their problem xD
As of right now, mapedit is quite dandy... especially with soon to come 1.4 item frames :) Live map on the wall, anyone?
Announcement
I have given up moving the map with the player due to many factors:
Thank you for understanding. I know a few of you were really looking forward to this, and I have tried very hard, but I hope you understand that something that seems easy to non-devs can actually be impossible/next to impossible for developers. If you wish to see more of my work, please visit my dev page, and check out my plugins. I am currently in deep development on a plugin called Zombie Ablockalypse, which basically makes COD Zombies for Minecraft, and I have a large plugin called Flow, which changes/adds to liquid functionality.
Sorry, Jnorr44
@wolfenguard
will there be multi-world support? I run multiverse with a creative and survival world. I can only view my creative world. It would be interesting to see worldguard, plotme, faction borders like dynmap.
@glaivereinpald I just tested 1.0.4 on a server, and this is not happening. Also, I haven't received any complaints from other users. Are you sure your downloading it correctly? And if you are, can you post a ticket with the debug mode output?
When ever a player uses a map when mapedit is running they get a plugin not in the proper GZip format and they get kicked.
Didn't happen before and doesn't happen after mapedit is removed and gives no error in the log.
@TerraVale Yeah, I was aware of this. I am going to try to use the grid to make the maps following players work.
@Jnorr44
Might want to check this out, they added more map features in the latest snapshot:
@TerraVale Alright, that would be great! I am working on the centering thing, but its much harder than most people think. If I was to just tell it to center on the player, the old pixels to not update, and the player cursor does not move. So I need to do a bunch of math, then figure out how to reload the map, which isn't really provided anywhere. This update may take a long time, so I am sorry for that. On top of that, I am busy with 3 other plugins and a game, which are all extremely large, so I am not sure when I can get an update out. I worked ALL day yesterday on Zombie Ablockalypse, and I hope to do some work on MapEdit today. I really hope I can get this update out for your guys, because it would be absolutely amazing if I could replace other map plugins/mods, and save RAM while doing it.
@Jnorr44
I can provide a video if it saves you any time. For extraneous information, I have the capability to record in 720p, and because the video doesn't necessarily require any editing, I can just re-render it using another video codec to provide optimal quality (and not as big in file size as avi's default 'codec' if you will, so therefor uploading to youtube is do-able)
Will be waiting on any new features you're working on first, though! Centering on the player would be a nice feature, but isn't indefinitely needed. Just a nice knack :)
I am currently working on Zombie Ablockalypse, another one of my plugins. That has been under development for around a month and a half now, so I have to get to work on that. This will still be updated as well don't worry!
@rushn_hobo I can upload some as soon as i get the next update out. Right now, I am testing something (unannounced), while working on 4 other plugins, so I am very busy.
Are there any screenshots or video's?
@AStevensTaylor I can try, but I am not sure yet. Im not sure Minecraft has any way of setting the center of the map, after it has already been set.
I'm also gonna make it so you can track entities on the map. I have a few more ideas too, but I don't want to release them yet, because I am not sure they are possible.
Would it be possible to make the map scroll with you? Like it does with most games, and like it does with Rei's Minimap.
@TerraVale I believe I have solved the problem... I am uploading a new Beta, and I was wondering if you guys could test it out before I make a stable version?
EDIT: I also even improved performance, and I will be improving the accuracy of the player direction soon.
@XeonG8 I hope to get a video in the future, but if it is really necessary, I can upload an image.
@Jnorr44
I saw that a file had been uploaded and got all excited, guess I'll have to wait another day to try this out! D:
No worries though, it will be a nice addition to many servers :D
