Gravestone
Constructs an inscribed gravestone, with a buried inventory chest, wherever a player dies.
Features
- Generates a gravestone at the location of a player's death.
- The gravestone will generate an inscription displaying the player's name, date of death and game session time.
- A "Treasure Chest" will generate beneath the grave containing the deceased player's inventory and armor items.
- Gravestone elements will only replace "natural" blocks such as dirt, sand, grass, gravel, netherrack, etc. This may be turned off in config.yml.
- Acts as a useful indicator, especially in SMP games, where players may gain better knowledge of exploration attempts and history within the game.
- Configurable options, Permissions and WorldGuard support.

Configs
Use config.yml to apply custom settings to available Gravestone options.
Option | Default | Description |
---|---|---|
enable-white-list | false | Use this to activate the white-list.txt. Once active, only usernames listed here will be granted gravestones upon death. |
only-build-grave-on-natural-material | true | Grave sections will only render-replace "natural" materials such as dirt, sand, grass, gravel, netherrack, etc. Set to false to allow grave blocks to replace any material. |
enable-fancy-grave | true | Enables a "fancy grave" which adds dirt and roses around gravestone. Setting this to false will generate a "basic" grave consisting of only a gravestone with sign. |
create-buried-inventory-chest | true | Enables the creation of the buried inventory "treasure chest". Set this to false if you don't want this feature. |
display-date-time-of-death | true | Displays the date and time of a player's death. |
fancy-grave-material | dirt | Material used around a fancy grave. |
allow-unlimited-graves-per-player | true | Default is true to allow for unlimited graves per player. When set to false, a player's prior grave will disappear and the area's original contents will be restored. If the player's grave block has been altered after construction then the prior grave blocks will not be reset. This avoids the potential for griefing. |
grave-stone-material | smooth stairs | Used to set material used for gravestone. |
enable-grave-lightning-effect | true | Lightning effect upon grave when player dies. Set to false to turn off. |
enable-fancy-grave-side-decor | true | Turns on the side decor for a fancy grave. |
fancy-grave-side-decor | red rose | Sets the decor used for the side decor of a fancy grave. |
only-build-grave-if-player-has-inventory | true | Only build grave if player has an inventory. Set to false to turn off. |
allow-grave-in-normal-world | true | Enables grave creation in the overworld. |
allow-grave-in-nether | true | Enables grave creation in the Nether. |
allow-grave-in-end | true | Enables grave creation in the End. |
white-list.txt
Use white-list.txt to limit grave creation to certain players. Note: Set enable-white-list: true in config.yml to enable the white list.
black-list.txt
Use black-list.txt to deny grave creation for certain players.

Loving the plugin, good work so far! I submitted a quick ticket to point out one minor issue I've been having related to duplicating enchanted items, but other than that I love it! I'll definitely plan on using it once that one kink is worked out. Keep up the excellent work. :)
What about adding support for placing the gravestone in a specific region, like a grave yard?
Even with the "Build:Deny" flag players are still creating gravestones and ruining my builds!
@BloodyChucklz
It should be on by default. As long as WorldGuard is installed it will automatically use it to test if a player is allowed to build on a specific region before constructing the grave. I could probably add a config which would allow you to disable this.
Emillan what is the name of the WorldGuard flag that was added? I don't see anything about gravestones in the list of available flags.
@antichip
Thanks for catching that. I'll take a look.
I'm not sure every normal MC player knows what booleans and strings are, but nice plugin other then that.
This plugin looks fantastic BUT I was hoping you could add a feature to make this viable for more heavy traffic servers.
I'd like to be able to set a region for my graveyard, next to my church. Instead of making a gravestone where the player dies, its created in the region specified.
I dont like the idea of walking around my map finding graves, and players can be assured their items will be in the graveyard.
Good Job !
Just as a side note, I have scavenger installed that will keep a players inventory on death, it is only available to owner and donors, but it may tie in with the item in hand duplication issue.
Would factions and towny support be possible also? since it is the server doing the block placing it does bypass the arena restrictions also, restrictions even op wont let me get over. can this set-up be made as a user placed entity so that only those with access to build will drop grave stones, and group levels for inventory keeping,
edit: I HAD A NON STAFF PLAYER COMPLAIN OF ITEM DUPES THIS MORNING yes a non staff saying he did not like free stuff. and after reading back it looks like this has been an issue since mid april. have you looked into it or seen any possible resolution for this?
OK it dupes all items in players hand. staff brought it to my attention. He now has 5 level 30 diamond swords. I also feel it needs more placement restrictions. ever seen a tower of graves? well thats one way to make a way down. It also does not always abide by the natural materials as I have graves in my glass block floors, and well just all over. On that not it does make the move arena constantly changing terrain generated by graves.
@benlewisc
Great job with the video. Many thanks!
I added a Media section for it.
I made a video for the plugin here if anyone wants a tutorial
Yes I am using WorldGuard
@Kahanamoku78
Right, what are you all using to define these "regions"? Any specific plugin? I guess it's safe to assume WorldGuard.
BloodyChuckz: Agreed. Last thing you want is a tombstone in an arena! lol Biome specific would be nice too... Yet to install this, so not sure if it is a current feature, but Nether Stairs in the Nether and Sandstone stairs in the end would be fitting tombstones.
With the next update could you include a regions flag that will enable/disable the use of gravestones in that region?
@Katsuro_Nakamura
Thanks for the detailed information. I'll create a ticket for this and investigate a solution.
@hpsMouse
Thanks for the report. I created a ticket for it and I'll take a look.
Hi, I am running multiverse/portals/inventories on my server, and whenever someone dies, their inventory from the main world are then put into the chest in whatever world they died in. for example, my main world is a vanilla minecraft world, when I die in my skylands world that has its own inventory and is much further behind in material progress, it spawns the death chest that contains all my items from my vanilla minecraft in the skylands world, this is a large issue for me and I was wondering if there would possibly be a fix on the way. (I really hope so as I love this plugin!)
