Follow
A plugin so you can follow a player hands-free and catch them in the act!
CptnGri3fr: r u following me??? Soopertrooper: Yes I am. CptnGr13fr has left the game.
Overview
Follow is a plugin that allows one player to follow another, hands free, on a virtual leash. As the followed player moves about, the follower moves along with him, from a safe viewing distance.
Follow works well with
- invisibility or vanish plugins, such as VanishNoPacket
- compass teleporting, such as found in WorldEdit
- world switching through portals, such as those found in MultiVerse-Portal
- god mode, such as found in Essentials and WorldEdit
- disguises, such as MobDisguise (follow them as a chicken or pig or creeper)
Uses
- Admins - follow a suspicious player to watch his pattern of behavior
- Admins - get screen captures of griefing in progress
- Moderators - spy on a player to collect activity notes to help administrators decide if a player should be banned
- Marketing - make a movie of your adventure by having your "camera operator" follow the other player/actor
- Server Guides - take new players on a virtual tour
- Players - become someone's virtual friend and follow them around while they take you for a tour
Features
- Lock onto a specific player
- Switch to another player
- Follow along the ground, through hills and valleys
- Safe placement each move
- Auto-teleport so you stay within a reasonable distance
- Auto-rotation so you're always able to face the followed player
- Server-friendly operation at low priority
- Permissions
- Configurable distance
- Configurable delay between movement
- Follow the nearest player
- Supports fly mode
- Adjust distance while following
- Reload-able config file
- FUTURE: Configurable safe location algorithm
- FUTURE: Auto-update
- FUTURE: Follow invitation (similar to /tpa)

Beta Builds
Note that "Beta" builds come with caveats and limitations. Before a build is posted, it is smoke tested on a live server for at least 2 days. It should be stable enough to use and not cause problems on your server, but because it has not had extended run time on several servers with various configurations, anything can happen. If you find a bug, like a NullPointerException, kindly report it with as much helpful detail as you can find, using the Ticket system. If you spend 2 minutes getting version numbers, relevant plugins, actual error messages, etc. it will help me fix the bug much faster for you.
Wow, great work. This would be awesome on my server. Anybody knows a similar plugins for 1.13.2 ? thanks
I updated this plugin for 1.9.2. If you search my name on GitHub, you may find the source and a release for 1.9.2 among my projects there. I fixed a bug with flying where NPEs would be thrown if you were following another flying player, and also fixed a bug where the following player would be bounced up and down repeatedly damaging themselves off the ground when the person being followed first took flight.
i have a server on Bukkit 1.8.3 and there are bugs: head is not always chasing him, when he is digging, my character is either underground or same spot but on ground, so i can't chase him. tried both follow styles, ofc i'm using gamemode 1 while chasing and vanish distance i prefer is 2 and update every 1 second

And commands are also listed under the Pages tab: http://dev.bukkit.org/bukkit-plugins/follow/pages/commands/
@tofwap
It is here, under the Pages tab: http://dev.bukkit.org/bukkit-plugins/follow/pages/permission/
I haven't worked on this in the last couple of years, but I'm still around. Thanks for testing it on the new servers and posting the results here.
WORKS
with no errors as of yet using spigot 1.8.3
obviously it doesnt follow through bungeecord portals
if i encounter any major problems later ill try to come back here (good chance it will slip my mind)
Needs to be updated or remade...
Would be nice to be able to follow one of the kids or other players while i am working on something else outside of MC so i can help them easily when they ask or see they need help when they dont ask(such as when one of my daughters was trying way too hard to build that nether portal; wrong shape and need more blocks but was too proud to ask for help i guess). Minor thing but would be amazing to see
Would be good for anytime a person joins the server and needs a little extra help. I'm sure our admins can find lots of ways to use this besides just grief prevention (seems like there are better ways of handling that than spying)
I will install and test this on 1.8.3 because someone mentioned it working on 1.7.9. I will try to post back in a couple days with results
Also tested on 1.7.2-r0.3
For those of you who need a list of the commands and permissions, here they are, copied from the plugin.yml so you don't have to do the same!
commands:
follow:
description: Follow a player.
usage: /follow [player [distance]] | stop | list | closer | farther | reload | help
permission: follow.access
permission-message: You aren't permitted to use this command.
aliases: fw
unfollow:
description: Stop following a player.
usage: /unfollow
permission: follow.access
permission-message: You aren't permitted to use this command.
aliases: unfw
permissions:
follow.*:
description: use all follow permissions
children:
follow.access: true
follow.list: true
follow.player: true
follow.access:
description: use the follow command
default: op
follow.list:
description: list the followers and followed
default: op
follow.player:
description: follow another player
default: op
follow.reload:
description: reload the follow config
default: op
Works on 1.7.9 I just wish you would have listed the permissions node that this uses
Tested, still works on 1.6.2 :)
@Ekevoo
have you found any thing like that yet? I am looking for the same thing.
@Ekevoo
Sorry, it's not possible in the sense that you're asking. You are you and they are them.
@leetmero
Yeah, I was going to ask the same. I'm very interested in 1st person following, especially if I can also see inventory, health, hunger, and XP.
is it possible to make this so u can see from the POV of the character your following
@domdomegg
Yes, it works with 1.3.2.
Does this work with 1.3.2?
@sheepwool7 Go vote for your favorite in the Tickets tab.
Are any of the "FUTURE" updates nearing existence?
@sheepwool7
Thanks, @sheepwool7. I appreciate the encouragement.
