Notable Features!
floAuction has too many customizable features to reasonably put on the main page here, but here's a list of notable ones.
- Full language customization, even (with the use of WhatIsIt) item names themselves.
- Auction house, silent auctions, sealed auctions, countdown suppression, individual opting-out of all auctioning, and many other "spam" limiting features!
- Reserves funds (i.e. removes them from the player account), ability to disable auctioning damaged and renamed items, full item details displayed, and other abuse and scam prevention features!
- Percent of winnings or price per auction taxes, limits on max's and min's of different auction aspects, banned items list and other economy protection features!
- And, finally ss of the release of floAuction version 3: Auction scopes. The ability to designate world grouping and create multiple auction houses, each with distinct language and config settings.
A list of main features, complete, in progress, planned and under consideration can be found here. Specific per-version history can be found here. And GitHub here.
Important Notes and Disclaimers
- Before commenting, read the FAQ!
- This plugin requires Vault and WhatIsIt, make sure they're installed if you want floAuction to work.
- floAuction uses PluginMetrics to create pretty graphs and charts on mcstats.org. All the data uploaded to their site is impersonal data, including version numbers of your server and floAuction, hardware capabilities, and ip info. If you are uncomfortable with this, go into your /plugins/PluginMetrics folder, change the "opt-out" value to "true" and restart your server.
- floAuction version 3 uses gravitylow's Updater functionality. You can disable it in floAuction's config.yml by setting "auto-update" to "false" or disable it for all plugins using that code in the /plugins/Updater/config.yml by setting "disabled" to "true". This Updater functionality contacts Bukkit's servers to determine if an update is available and installs it so.
- The GitHub for version 2 has moved to 2.x.x-archive as it is no longer under active development. The 2.x.x branch on GitHub is temporarily being used to develop version 3.
- A number of technical difficulties have corrupted floAuction versions 2.10.0 through 2.10.2, do not use these versions!

Commands
- /auction - Main auction interface, use "/auction ?" in-game for more information, permissions vary per functionality. Requires permission "auction.bid":
- /auc - Shortcut for "/auction" (v2.6.0+)
- /sealedauction same syntax as "/auction" but forces sealed auction. (v2.6.0+)
- /sauc - Shortcut for "/sealedauction" (v2.6.0+)
- /bid [bid amount] [max bid] - Bidding, all parameters optional. If [bid amount] is omitted, bid automatically becomes the current bid + minimum bid increment. In sealed auctions, [bid amount] is required and [max bid] is ignored.
Permissions
- auction.start - Allows creation of auctions.
- auction.bid - Allows bidding on auctions.
- auction.admin - Allows administrative functions including cancelling current auctions, suspending player's auction capability, pausing and restarting auctions. (default: op)
Setup and Configuration
This plugin requires Vault and WhatIsIt.
Click here to view a detailed list of all config options for floAuction version 2 and how to use them. As of the release of floAuction 3, floAuction 2 will no longer be supported. floAuction 3 has all the features that version 2 has, plus more!
Click here to see detailed configuration and setup details for floAuction 3. It is multiple pages, but if you take the time to go through it, you will discover that floAuction is by far the most powerful auction plugin available for Minecraft.
Development Participation
I sometimes upload development or "alpha" versions of my plugin to a folder on my own website. If you would like to participate in helping me make sure these major changes have been well tested before I make an official release here on Bukkit, feel free to visit http://www.flobi.com/projects/floAuction/files/ and download the most recent version available on that site. Read the readme file there before participating. I recommend against using any of these files for any server where you need to guarantee up-time or functionality, but only on development or test servers. If you choose to use these against this recommendation, do so at your own risk (though technically it's your own risk in any case, lol, I'm not guaranteeing anything).

@Zizmax
I'll add it to the list. That could be very useful.
@Tigergruppe
I'll look into the restarting thing. Could be as simple as executing an auction cancel in the shutdown process.
As far as WhatIsIt goes...WhatIsIt is primarily a library that allows other plugins to display friendly item names. The commands in it default to OP only and are effectively what I wrote to debug it and floAuction plus a tiny bit more...I thought they could be fun toys (and the people on the server I play on agreed, it's currently one of many donator perks) so I left them in.
Its existence is due to the fact that there is no way built into bukkit to get friendly item names. I'm not sure when Vault added a get item name feature, but it doesn't support enchantments, which are necessary to know when auctioning. Also, Vault's item name implementation wouldn't support custom items if someone made them with some Spout addon, doesn't support other languages besides English and can't be updated without recompiling Vault.
floAuction connects into WhatIsIt behind the scenes to get the item information (the WhatIsIt user commands aren't part of this process). The only way I could realistically make WhatIsIt not required effectively would be to include the same functionality inside floAuction. But, by having it as a separate plugin, it gives other developers a potential tool to use if they need friendly item names. And it's a fun toy which is easily disabled with permissions if unwanted.
@incredinex
Thanks for the fixes in the latest release.
I have found something critical though. When a server is restarting, or shutting down and an auction is going on, the auction doesn't immediately close and the item is simply lost upon restart. Is there a way to force the plugin to shut itself down before a server restarts to avoid items simply vanishing into thin air?
Also, is there a way to make this plugin run without it depending on WhatIsIt? Or does it assist in the identification of items for the actual auction plugin itself, and not purely or the user?
Sorry I didn't include Version #. I have since uploaded to 2.4.3 and everything works fine. Thanks for the wonderful plugin!
EDIT: Would it ever be possible to add a time stamp to the auction logs?
@rasnyderiii
What would you recommend I do instead? Is there something built into bukkit or Vault which provides item names and supports full language customization? The reason I wrote WhatIsIt is because the answer to that seemed to be "no." I'm up for any ideas.
Ahh yes Incredinex I did miss that. Thanks man that will do just fine actually.
I'd really like to try this - but making it dependent on "whatisit".... seems not needed.
@PyrostasisTDK
Okay, I think iAuction added the antisnipe thing after floAuction 1 forked off it (there is no iAuction code in floAuction 2, and I've been trying to not reference their featurelist for this). The basic idea seems to be what you described, but I would like to note that the max bid functionality in floAuction serves a similar purpose. I'll go ahead and queue what you asked for, but in the mean time, if you let your users know about the maxbid parameter of "/bid" that should help their frustration, if they're having it.
@Zizmax
Check your version, if you're before a certain one, you also have to have auction.start. It was a bug. Download the newest version is the only recommendation with the info (or lack thereof) you provided.
@PyrostasisTDK
So you're saying if someone bids in the last X (where X is configurable in the config.yml) seconds of the auction that an extra X seconds are added to the auction? I suppose it would be easy enough to add. BTW, thanks for the video. It encourages me to see people interested.
EDIT: We could have 2 values, an X and a Y where if someone bids in the last X seconds of an auction, Y seconds are appended to the auction time. Would add more options for admins, think I'll do it that way instead..
Any chance there is a way to prevent auction sniping? Lots of folks on my server now wait till the last second to big and only then. Which causes some extremely strange behavior.
Ideally it would be nice if in the last 5 seconds of an auction if a bid is placed another 5 - 10 seconds of time is added to allow for bidding wars to finish and sniping to be killed.
All players/permissions groups have "auction.bid: true" but when using /bid players get the "FloAuction You don't have permission notice". When a player doesnt have that node, they get the normal/default "No permission" notice. How can I fix this?
@Tigergruppe
I'm making 2 options for the cancellation thing. One, specify how many seconds from the end of the auction to block cancelling and another to specify a percentage. So, you could set that no one can cancel in the last 15 seconds of the auction or the last 50% of the auction (those will be the defaults). The idea is to keep them from cancelling at the end when they didn't get the bids they wanted. I don't want to have a "first x seconds is cancellable" because it arbitrarily makes them rush if they messed something up.
I do plan on making channel support as part of the scopes. One goal I have is to make it so that auctions can be in different definable scopes, such as certain world groups, channels or maybe even specific areas or signs. As far as herochat goes, my preference would be to add herochat support to Vault instead of adding herochat to floAuction. I'll see what I can do on this front, but it'll be after I get scopes in general working.
I'll take a look at the potions as well. Are you getting a particular error in the game or in the console?
@incredinex
Sounds good! I was thinking though, there are times where people indeed need to cancel their auction based upon a mistake they made. Perhaps it would be best if the option to cancel disappeared AFTER the first ten seconds that the auction? That way they can remove their mistake auction and still be blocked from cancelling the auction if a price is not met that they enjoy.
The ability to limit the chat to a specific channel so that it does not flood the main chat would also be an exciting option if possible. Sure we all have access to /auction off, and its variations, but if we could simply put it all into an auction channel ( We use HeroChat ) That would be an ideal situation.
Lastly, I have found that we are currently unable to auction potions aside from Bottles o' Enchanting.
@Tigergruppe
I hate it when people do that. I will add the option.
@incredinex
Is there any way to add an option to disallow the user to cancel their own auction based on time left? I am having a lot of people simply cancelling auctions due to them not getting the price they want. In my opinion it defeats the purpose of auctioning at all.
@incredinex
I'm glad to hear that :P
@Bshow
It was one thing I had considered a while back. I'll put it in the consideration list. At the moment, my next big step is cleaning it up so that I can have multiple auctions simultaneously. Thanks for the ideas. I love it, keep 'em coming.
@Bshow
That'd be a really cool addition.
Is there a way to make the auction a selectable region? For instance having a town or market to trade in, but not throughout the whole server. Kind of like and auction house. Thanks.
Thanks!
