ChunkLoader
ChunkLoader
This plugin allows servers to keep chunks loaded while players are not around chunks. Meaning you can keep your farms growing and your redstone ticking.
Please note that this plugin is not yet fully complete. A demo video will be added soon
Commands
Note: You can use /cl as a alias to /ChunkLoader !

What does this plugin provide
This plugin Provides a way to keep a chunk loaded in memory when the player moves away from it or logoff. I plan to make this fully customizable:
TODO List
- Chunk can be unloaded if player logs off
- Player can have a limit of how many chunks he can have and if he can set it.
- The chunk belongs to a certain player and only he can change it
- A radius can be set from that chunk (fully comiziable with config file)
- Chunks can be unloaded after a certain period
- Cost for the chunk to stay loaded
- Cost to make a chunkloader
- World Edit support
MCStats.
This plugin utilizes Hidendra's plugin metrics system, which means that the following information is collected and sent to mcstats.org:
- A unique identifier
- The server's version of Java
- Whether the server is in offline or online mode
- The plugin's version
- The server's version
- The OS version/name and architecture
- The core count for the CPU
- The number of players online
- The Metrics
notes: This plugin does work with ptweaks chunk unloading feature.
@Pascal98R
I have no idea. I'm going to wait for 1.8 then re do the plugin
Does not work for 1.7.5
@james137137
Unfortunately, keeping your chunks alive if no player is nearby may be a non-trivial task. :-(
("alive" meaning that farms keep growing and not only that a chunk stays loaded)
@james137137
You can add the option to load chunks near block with a special ID?
@maystorm_real
you raise a good point maystorm_real
I did at first test it with farm, snow and redstone update and it did work but as you pointed out they no longer work like this. I guess I'll have find a way around this :D
@godoftrees
No, you don't miss anything. It simply doesn't work.
This is what I found out after having done some research: Chunks which are loaded don't automatically get block updates. There must be a player nearby (within a radius of 15 chunks) in order that chunks receive the so-called "block ticks" which are vital for nature blocks to be alive (that is growing of seeds, saplings, cacti, sugar canes, etc as well as decaying of leaves).
For a good explanation look at the section "Block ticks" on this wiki page: http://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Tick
This means that plants wouldn't continue to grow even if chunks are kept loaded all the time unless a player is close to your farm. :-(
For some reason i can't seem to get a chunk thats loaded, to grow cactus in an automatic cactus farm in my server, is there something i'm missing? thanks :).
Looks like a great plugin but I don't seem to get it to work.
The plugin loads (no errors in bukkit log) and I can get help with '/chunkloader help', however, if I use '/chunkloader set' followed by '/chunkloader list' there is no output at all. Also abbreviation /cl doesn't work (unknown command).
I am running Bukkit-1.7.2-R0.3 and ChunkLoader Version 1.742.
Am I missing something?
TIA
Thanks TeamCraftMC. yes I do need to increase my documentations with permissions. and I will try asap.
at the moment the plugin is stable but I do need to start adding more features from my TODO list which i'll try to get done when I get time.
@ceagle2
I'm glad to here its working. I can't promise that it will work perfectly but my plugin at least tries to keep the chunks loaded
Permissions please!
I'm gonna give it a try, but I'd also like to ask you directly: does this plugin also keep spawn chunks loaded when a whole dimension is going inactive? Let's say the last player leaves the Nether, so this dimension would become inactive, which even freezes Nether spawn chunks. Does this plugin prevent this, so Nether spawn chunks stay active in this situation?
I love what you have planned for this plugin - hope you're really going to do all of that. Even though I keep the amount of plugins on my server to a bare minimum, I'd really like to keep this one permanently.
/Edit: when a whole dimension gets unloaded, it doesn't prevent chunks from being unloaded - but in my case that's actually absolutely ok. At least they get reloaded even with someone entering the Nether from far away - that's what didn't work with Nethers spawn chunks in my case without your plugin. So, I have to say: it works like a charm. :-)
Just started using this plugin in my server, and have to say it's already awesome, even being a early stage. The TODO list is full of insanely good ideas that will make this plugin a 10k+ downloads for sure.
I only have a question: - This plugin has no permissions support, ok, but why then players can't use it? (only admins can). I mean, that's part of the coding or just an unexpected behaviour? (I'm asking this because I don't want players to use it, at least without a permission system integrated but neither do want any user to exploit any bug to start creating loaded chunks).
Keep that good work up!
@Kino876
I might have forgotten to change that :D it isl 1.742
[20:54:34 INFO]: [ChunkLoader] Disabling ChunkLoader v1.741 [20:54:34 INFO]: ChunkLoader: disabled [20:54:34 INFO]: [ChunkLoader] Enabling ChunkLoader v1.72 [20:54:34 INFO]: ChunkLoader : Version 1.72 enabled
Incorrect version number in v1.742 ??, this is what happen when I upgraded from v1.741 to v1.742.
Per player chunks and permissions would make this plugin perfect, imo.
@PureTryOut
WorldEdit.... yeah I can add it to my TODO list
@DoomGiver32
being back at uni updates will be slow... I'll try my best to get the important stuff done tho.
ETA on when this will have permission support and we'll be able to set a limit on how many chunks a player can have loaded and whatnot? This seems to be about the only plugin that does what I want that works with 1.6.4. :P
Amazing! This was just what I need :D A feature request though, could you make this compatible with WorldEdit, so you select an area with the wand, and then make them all unloadable?
@Finelarme2
sent a pm explaining.
@Wolfhowller
np :-D
@james137137
Thanks for making your mod compatible with Java 6.
