ChopTree2
This is a continuation of the very popular but sadly inactive ChopTree plugin by Iso_1. This new version started as a copy of the old one, but has been updated to fit the newer API. I have done what I can to bring this excellent plugin back to life.
2.1+ UPDATE NOTICE: To clean up the code and make the plugin a little more efficient I have removed the .properties files and replaced them with .yml equivalents. Anyone using 2.0 or before will need to reset their settings (which can be done in game using the /choptree toggle {option} command).
What Is ChopTree
ChopTree is a simple plugin, that lets Trees act like cacti. (Chop the bottom block to pop the whole tree)
This plugin is originally coded by askmeaboutlo0m. (Iso_1) kept it updated up to the 1.0.1 Craftbukkit build and removed some errors. Since 1.2 the plugin is now managed by ellbristow.
Please give me feedback and make suggestions for any features you would like.
Features
- Lets trees act like cacti - remove a block and all blocks above are yieled too.
- Alternatively you can make that log blocks move down one by one instead - no more climbing trees.
- Option to pop Leaves when the tree pops (or to bring them down with the logs if using the move down feature)
- Works with all tree types (they all yeild their own wood and saplings).
- Also works with "big" trees that have multiple branches - makes felling them a lot easier.
- Restrict using this plugin to certain tools only.
- Only works on trees, houses made of logs are safe!
Installation
- Copy the .jar to your plugins folder
- Restart your server/plugins
- Edit the config.yml file to your liking (It's self explanatory)
- Restart again
- Enjoy (Important step!)

@DanSpedey
I have already brought a 1.8 update for the spigot community where development will continue,
http://www.spigotmc.org/resources/choptree-1-8-update.2046/
Will this plugin be ported to Sponge??
I want there to be an option where it slows down the chopping. For example- when you chop down a tree with 5 logs, make it take 5 times as long to chop that block, 10x as long for 10-block trees, etc. Like Treecapitator does.
I am using permissionsbukkit and have tried to set the proper permissions to allow players to cut down trees but it keeps telling me that I am not allowed to even though I am set as "owner" and I created the server. Help!
Is this hooked with worldguard?
Chopping Big Trees using the log-by-log method in the config results in the funky looking logs. Please fix this ASAP. I am in a dire need of this being fixed.
This would be ultimately perfect if and only if I didnt have to set up freaking perms on a server with non for it. the config file very streight forward just that it requires perms for those who are not op.
But I has a fix! Add this line in the plugin.yml (located in the "choptree2.jar"
http://prntscr.com/3t55d3
it makes it so that non ops cant use the commands to change anything but they can chop trees the good old ChopTree way!
Does this kill the durability of the axe?
The new big trees with horizontal logs now drop horizontal logs which are uncraftable. You can place them in the world and break them to get proper logs.
@blomman2
Are you an op? the config part is working fine, plugin works great for op's but it doesn't work at all for NON-OP's.
That is what we are asking about.
@SodbusterOH
check under installation up here edit the config.yml file.. i had no problem at all with this :)
I also have the problem of only the OPs having the ability to chop trees. This is all well and good for my and my friend who are Opped on my server, but for my nephew and his friends (who have the annoying habit of leaving floating tree-tops everywhere) they are unable to use it since there's no way I'd Op them. I installed this plugin specifically to prevent them of leaving all the floating tree-tops, but it seems I can't get non-ops to be able to use it.
Only OP's can chop trees.
I don't have any permissions plugin installed. I do have essentials, tried putting the perm in there but no luck. Minecraft permissions.yml is empty, do I add it there? I don't think its worth the effort if I have to add a permissions plugin since it looks like then I have to configure ALL my other plugins with permissions. I didn't have this problem with any other plugin, why can't ChopTree2 be automatic too?
Suggestion: When you put the option "LogsMoveDown" to true the logs should keep moving down until everything reaches the ground!
@Cheeserwizzer
Already exists: choptree.chop You should take a look at the Command & Permissions page before asking ;)
@Iwitrag Yes.
Best tree feller plugin I have found. I would have downloaded it if you would have added a permissions feature where a player gets 1 permission and is then able to fell trees.
Does this support GroupManager Permissions?
Hello, thank you very much for this plugin :) It's awesome and working in Residence as well! Keep it up! :)
Awesome plugin, have been using it for a week now and it's working just fine but I got a suggestion, can you add possibility to use a custom effect when the tree breaks for example a smoke effect. And I like what @Randoro93 suggested.
