Frequently Asked Questions

Summary

We need these so the developer doesn't have an aneurysm.

Q: What does AutoSave do?

A: AutoSave is meant to provide a simple method to automatically save your world at a defined interval! This plugin only saves to the proper world directories within the Minecraft server. It is not a backup plugin, it is meant to increase persistence and reduce the affects of a server crash.

Q: Does it still work?

A: AutoSave has not broken with a build in a very long time. The save methods within Bukkit have not changed since build 495 and it is extremely unlikely they will be changing. Expect that I'm too lazy to update the forum post to say it works with the latest, it most likely does so don't ask, instead give it a try and let everyone know that its working for you on whatever build you are using!

Q: Where does AutoSave save to?

A: AutoSave only triggers the same methods that occur when you type "save-all" on console. It lets you sleep better at night knowing that all your hard work will at least be saved more frequently. AutoSave is not a backup plugin.

Q: I got griefed, what do I do?

A: AutoSave is not intended to provide means to roll back changes on your server. If you wish to ensure griefing is easier to manage, get something thats purpose is to deal with griefing. AutoSave is meant to only save your worlds and players to disk and nothing more.

Q: Where does the backup get stored?

A: AutoSave is not intended to provide backups. If you wish to create backups, I would recommend using another plugin to specificity do this for you.

Q: Doesn't the server automatically save the world?

A: It only saves when you type the command ("save-all") or stop the server with the stop command. Servers crash all the time, and in case you haven't noticed, when they crash, the majority of the time EVERYTHING from the time you put in the last save-all command in the console is lost. I don't know about you but I don't like to explain to my users that their hard work over the past three hours was lost because I was at work and couldn't type save-all into the console.
