Add code that checks for a new version. If a new version of X-Ray Detective, only administrators will be notified.
Perhaps this feature can be restricted to only appear when on the Settings page.

Yes, this is requested to be added in numerous occassions. There is a very high chance this will be added. But if your thinking of an Auto-Updater, that may not be happening in a short time period.
