SimpleSignEdit
Not satisfied with the mechanics of other sign edit tools, such as requiring the use of commands, I went and threw together a plugin that lets you edit signs simply by right-clicking them with another sign in hand.
Download here. (Older versions available here.)
If you are upgrading from 1.6 or earlier, be sure to set up your database info in the config before you start up your server with the updated plugin.
When you right-click to edit a sign, you can then view and edit the text of the sign just as you would when creating it. You can only edit signs if you are the owner or if they are owned by everyone. To include colours on the sign, use the & character followed by a digit or a letter from A to F. This works both when placing and when editing. If you want to include an & character on the sign, and the plugin interprets it as a colour code, simply double it and the plugin will realize that you don't want it to be converted.
To see who owns a sign, hold a stick in your hand (you can change this to any item in the config file), and right-click the sign. To change who owns a sign if you have permission, hold a feather in your hand (you can change this to any item in the config file), and right-click the sign. Then either type the new owner name into chat, or walk over and punch them. You can also enter the symbols @, #, and * into chat to set the owner to yourself, no-one, or everyone, respectively. You could also edit ownership by editing the config file, but since signs are stored by their location that would not be an easy task.
To configure the items used for setting/viewing the owner of the sign, simply set the "view-owner" or "set-owner" values in the config file to the ID of the item you want to use. You can also change the "allow-stacking" and "break-protect" values if you wish. It's probably a good idea to leave the "signs" section alone since that keeps track of who owns which sign. You can also configure it so that you need to be sneaking (or not sneaking) to edit signs.

List of things to maybe do:
- None right now
@Tauryuu
I didn't say impossible, I said highly unlikely. The last part was an absolute, but that's only because as you've found, no one reads much of anything.
I've tried to fix the issue to the best of my abilities, but that doesn't mean someone smarter or more determined doesn't exist.
That said, my guess is that it's due, at least in part, to this line in 1.2.4's changelog:
"Fixed an old bug with signs clearing text while you’re editing them in multiplayer."
SimpleSignEdit tries to edit the lines on the sign you're placing, and while the changes appear to happen in the world, it seems they don't happen to the sign edit screen anymore.
can only say it still working on a danish server (in my case only if i use Spoutcraft client)
For people being an ignorant bitch, read this:
SimpleSignEdit is broken due to a bug in Bukkit.
I began to investigate what was wrong with SimpleSignEdit last night and determined that editing signs isn't working properly because of a Bukkit bug. Upon heading to report it, I found that someone else had already put in more work and accurately described the behavior I was seeing. Bug: BUKKIT-1459.
I then tried to see if I could work around the bug. While I admittedly didn't spend long trying, it seems highly unlikely that this issue will be fixed by an update to SimpleSignEdit.
An update to Bukkit is required.
Therefore, it's not possible to update.
The developer doesn't want to update it... Thank's to him.... It's a shame
hmm anyone bring this back? :( best sign editing plugin now gone
@KodekPL
Thank's Bro !

CelticMinstrel abandoned the project. Poor guy !!! but I search a guy who can make an update.
Can we have the source CELTIC_MINSTREL ??????
@1Rogue
fat lot of good that is...
so is anyone else going to try update it? there should be a bukkit page for defunct and abandoned plugins where users can upvote them, so that those with the skills to update might actually see them.
CelticMinstrel doesn't like us...
eyes wander up the page and down to comments ahhh answer revealed :)
Is this updated to 1.2.5 yet?
Please update, its a very neat and handy little plugin, easy to use. Dont think the youngsters will cope on the lan with commands :)
thanks
OK, this whole plugin is GARBAGE. None of it works. The config file does not even generate properly.
... what ? Are you alive ?? You cannot create plugins and don't support them.
What is the relation with Lockette ?
This plugin does nothing more than save you the time used to destroy a sign.
My config file is not properly generating.
...what? I don't exist now? How odd. :P
An update can be done, but it'd probably be faster if someone else does it and makes a pull request. I'm not sure when I'll get back to Bukkit stuff.
The same goes for Lockette support; if someone wants to update the plugin to make it honour Lockette.isOwner(), I'd probably pull it.
It's theoretically possible that some of the issues people are having were fixed and not released; you could try building the latest source from github and see if that fixes anything.
You guys realize you can still edit signs with it, you just don't have the nice feature of grabbing the text from the sign.
Oh my god. When I start a new conversation with him I have this error : Participants: The following recipients could not be found: Celtic_Minstrel
How do we do now ??
