SignEdit
Description
This plugin allows you to edit signs while they are still on block/wall they were placed on.
Features
- Logging.. Every edit made to a sign is logged in either console or a separate log file.
- Colours! See the Colours With SignEdit page
- As an added bonus, SignEdit will parse colours when you place a sign.
- SignEdit throws a SignChangeEvent with every edit. This means that if a player is trying to make a sign that they don't have permission to create, they can't! This is compatible with almost every major plugin that uses signs. It also works with HawkEye, so you can see who changed what!

Thanks to VariationVault for featuring SignEdit in a tutorial video on YouTube:
Considered making it possible to direct edit signs by right clicking them?
@kjly
When a player edits a sign, we pass control of decision to chest shop. So chest shop sees player X placing a sign on player Y's spot. We aimed to emulate the placing of a sign for the other plugins that are sign-based to work off of.
I will do some more testing to see if there is a viable solution.
new issue, im not sure if this plugin was to be compatible with chestshop, but when other players who don't own the chestshop changes the Buy line, the sign falls off
its not allowing my players to edit sign even when i gave them signedit.edit permission also when you fix it, can you make it so that protected regions such as faction claimed land or worldguard regions won't be affected by sign edit by players lower rank than op/admins?
Make it possible to direct edit signs?
@RaiZoS
whats the &1 for?
seems useless to me
the 15 character limit is kind of impossible to fix unless its a mod
It is possible to make the sign 15 letters with color because the signs are getting a bit small when you want multiple colors on 1 line.
For Example: &1 &4Hi, &f<PLAYER>
Something like that. it is one letter too long.
@SkymuraiPvP
That's unusual. The update checker code was removed a few updates ago, you shouldn't be getting any notification that SignEdit is out of date.
Getting update notifications whenever I log in even though I JUST updated -_-
@Proximacraft
I added an option to turn off truncating but turns out the sign truncates the text as well. Not sure why we do it as well.
@Proximacraft
atm there's no option to disable it. That does seem like something that should be fixed, I need the truncate function to ignore chat codes while still keeping them in the line. I'll see what I can do.
I just recently downloaded this plug-in for my server and I have a problem when I use a certain amount of characters. When I typed in a code using the bold and color I get a message saying, "Truncating line to 15 characters". I there a way I can edit that to make it longer?
The last time i remeber using it and it and working it was 1.6.4
@shawn889
Do you remember what version you were running prior to it not working? Do you know if the player can break the sign in question?
In 3.3.3 a blockbreak check was added but it should say in console if that's what's preventing signedit from proceeding with the edit.
The new change was added cause PhysicalShop was allowing signedits on other player's shops, so SE now does a blockbreak check with the assumption that if the player can't break the sign then they probably shouldn't be editing it.
You can disable the check in your config.yml file.
This is all that appears
09.01 05:04:32 [Server] INFO [PLAYER_COMMAND] Poshaz: /signedit 3 shawn smells
And Ignore What She Put... She's Just a troll xD
@shawn889
Anything in console?
In your newest plugin build, Players are unable to edit a sign even with having the permission signedit.edit, Op's are able to edit signs without a problem but when someone else tries it just simply says "could not edit sign"
If a player has the ability to have color on signs but then edits a line and then the color on all other lines get reset to black, what can cause this?
I can edit signs with color and it does not affect any other line but anyone else tries to edit will cause color on every other line to get removed...however, the line they edit can have color and that line only will work.
Thanks,
LHammonds
@JacobTurner
I'll do that, for now you can add aliases in your bukkit.yml file.
Maybe make it so you can type /se also? /Signedit is just long lol
