Shopkeepers
Set up custom villager shopkeepers that sell exactly what you want them to sell and for what price. You can set up admin shops, which have infinite supply, and you can also set up player shops, which pull supply from a chest.
It will also prevent any other trades with non-shopkeeper villagers, if you want it to.
For those who are simply looking for a convenient way to modify the trades of vanilla villagers (as an alternative to using complex Minecraft commands), the plugin also includes a graphical editor for regular villagers and wandering traders.
Basic Features
- Easily create villager shopkeepers that trade the items you want them to trade.
- Admins shops with infinite supplies.
- Player shops which pull supplies from a chest.
- Different types of player shops: selling, buying, trading, and selling books.
- Various supported mob types to represent your shopkeeper, sign shops, and Citizens (NPC) shops.
- Editor for regular villagers and wandering traders.
- Many configuration options.
- Translatable messages.
- Open source (Source code on GitHub)
Supported server versions
Shopkeepers supports the latest versions of Bukkit / Spigot.
Note that this plugin is created to work with CraftBukkit (or alternatively Spigot). Bukkit does not have an API for some of the things necessary to make this plugin work. This means that other server software (Tekkit, Forge, Cauldron, etc.) will not work with this plugin.
Other CraftBukkit or Spigot derivatives/forks might work, but are not officially supported. So if you run into issues while using those, try to reproduce your issue on a fresh and up-to-date Spigot server first.

Statistics
This plugin uses bStats to collect anonymous plugin usage statistics. This helps me to determine how many servers are using the plugin, which Minecraft versions it is used with the most, and to which degree the different features are used.
Here is a list of all currently tracked information:
- Common information: The number of servers using the plugin, the number of players on these servers, online mode, Minecraft version, plugin version, core count, system arch, operating system, server country, Java version.
- Shopkeepers specific information: Whether specific related plugins are used (Citizens, Towny, WorldGuard, Gringotts, other Vault economy plugins), number of shops, whether player shops are used, whether certain features are enabled in the config (ex. WorldGuard/Towny compatibility, Citizens shops, delayed saves, colored names, chest protection, removal of inactive shops, tax rate, strict item comparison, purchase logging, disabling of other villagers, ..), the number of worlds containing shops.
- All information can be publicly viewed here: https://bstats.org/plugin/bukkit/Shopkeepers/
If you want to disable bStats for all plugins on your server, edit the file plugins/bStats/config.yml, or alternatively disable it only for Shopkeepers by setting 'enable-metrics' to 'false' inside the Shopkeepers config.
Known potential issues
A list of known potential issues of the latest version of Shopkeepers can be found in the wiki: This documents differences between Minecraft/Spigot versions, and existing Minecraft/Spigot issues related to Shopkeepers.
If you run into an issue, check if this list already contains and maybe offers information on how to handle it.

Want to help?
The less I have to do myself, the more time I have to write plugins. Therefore I am looking for someone who would be willing to get involved in the project. That could for example mean:
- Keeping the documentation (the wiki) up-to-date with plugin updates.
- Improving the existing documentation.
- Creating and maintaining translations.
- Help managing issues and answering questions of users.
If you are a programmer with experience in writing bukkit plugins, or have ideas on how you can contribute to the project beyond that, let me know as well! If you are interested, feel free to contact me via PM.
Beyond that, everybody is invited to help others with issues and questions in the issue tracker, comment section, and the discord channel! Also consider contributing translations!
Third-Party Add-On Plugins
Sometimes a feature is either to specific to include it directly into the Shopkeepers plugin, or I did not yet have the time to add something similar myself. The plugins listed here extend the functionality of the Shopkeepers plugin.
These plugins are maintained by other community members. If you run into issues while using any of these add-ons, try to first reproduce your problem without any add-ons before you report it.
ShopkeepersNavAddon(abandoned): Adds inventory-based GUIs that allow you to browse all player shops, all admin shops, and to find shops that trade a specific type of item. You can teleport to a particular shopkeeper by clicking a button inside the GUI.
This plugin also integrates support for trading with Vault-based currency, but does so by replacing Shopkeepers' normal trade handling.
If you have also written an add-on plugin and want it listed here, let me know!
@Bodyash
Trading itself is all handled by minecraft. Shopkeepers is only setting up the villager trades. Make sure that your shop isn't accepting any of those items which you are giving to your players.
And how are you creating those 'custom items'? For ex. some plugins are able to fake items in a way that the player sees them differently to what they actually are on the server.
I have some problems on spigot 1.10.2
I imported all my plugins from 1.9 to 1.10.2 and for now Shopkeepers have some problems.
For example as gift 4 playing MobArena i`m giving to my players enchanted books and Firework Stars. But without any data. Enchanted book without enchants and start withou any color. But players can use enchanted books and crafted colored start for trading.
@Lemrigue
Hm, I could only find limitations to 64 when editing the costs for player shops. At other places it shouldn't either differentiate between stack sizes, or it already uses the item's max stack size value (which I asume you have edited).
So if you cannot insert stacks of 100 I could imagine that minecraft or craftbukkit itself might be interfering.
Is there a public plugin which demonstrates how you are modifying the item's max stack sizes?
Hello, Can you add a "more than 64 items for a stack support". I explain myself, my server has a system where the items can be stacked by 100 instead of 64, but when I put 100 items in the shop it displays 64 and it's impossible to trade. Thanks, Lemrigue
Hello, I'm having trouble with players being able to move my shopkeeper Villagers. I am aware that they tp back to their spawn place, but my players can still move them pretty far away. Is there away to disable that in the config or something? Please reply if anyone know how to do so. Thanks, ExplosionsHD!
@Almathy
@blablubbabc
Nop
Even with permission, players cant' make shopkeeper entity.
Event if I add...
@Almathy
So the problem is solved? You simply missed adding some mobs to the enabled ones?
@blablubbabc
I find why players can't :
"enabled-living-shops : A list of mob types which can be used for shopkeepers. Adding new mob types to the defaults here is unsupported, as some mob types might not properly work and can cause all kinds of issues."
Any type works with me ^^
@Almathy
Could you create a ticket and attach your (minimal) GroupManager permissions setup, with which I can try to reproduce this?
Personally I have only used PEX so far and never had problems with it. But I know that some people had strange permissions issues recently as well, though I was never able to reproduce them so far. Or they fixed themselves after a few restarts for those people.
Hi !
I have a problem, players can't place ShopKeeper (with item) since ShopKeeper 1.76 and Spigot 1.10 are used on my server. I have a message which said they haven't permission but they have it...
Problem with GroupManager do you think ?
@Kdielol
There is a setting in the config for disabling natural villager trading, which is enabled by default for some reason. It has been this way for a long time, but I think I might disabled it by default to cause less confusion in the future.
You can still use the villager egg to spawn normal villagers: If the shop cannot be created for some reason, it will trigger the normal villager creation instead. As player shopkeepers can only be created on chests, try clicking somewhere else than chest.
Greetings. Any idea why naturally spawned villagers such as those in naturally generated villages can't be traded with? Also, is there a way to be able to use villager eggs to spawn a "natural villager" as well as being able to spawn shopkeepers at the same time? Thanks! (The only other plugin I think that could possibly affect the natural villagers is Citizens but I don't think it's that).
@poiNt3D
Right now I am not planning anything in this regards. But I don't rule it out either.
Hello. Do you plan to port it for Sponge?
@huangzong
The latest version is already updated for 1.10. I just couldn't mark it as '1.10 compatible' yet, because dbo has to first manually add the new version tags every time.
Update to 1.10 pls~~ Thanks very much!
@FreddyGB
Check your console log for errors.Also turn on debug mode and see if that prints anything useful when the shop gets saved after you edited it, or when the shopkeepers get loaded.
Also, is the shop as a whole removed? If so, make sure that nothing is preventing shopkeepers from writing to the save file. And if it is a citizens npc, make sure that the npc got saved correctly (citziens does have a save command).
Are you by chance trying to setup trades which involve player head items?
@blablubbabc One of my shopkeepers, no matter if it is a citizen (npc) or not once my server gets restarted, it deleted every item in his inventory, or shop. What do i do???
@franticTech
Please don't post stack traces into the comment section. The are too spammy for that. Instead create a ticket and attach it there in the future.
Anyways, the issue should already have been fixed in v1.76. So update shopkeepers.
