    My config file is seemingly being ignored.

    What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
    I have several permissions for the default user, but none of them are recognized. Same with a group called "mod" and "admin".

    What version of the product are you using?
    2.4 on Craftbukkit 1.7.9 Build: 3092

    Do you have an error log of what happened?

    If I had to guess what the problem would be, I'd say it's reading the Config of Essentials (which is nonexistent) instead of PermissionsBukkit.
