MCTowns
MCTowns is a powerful way to manage towns.
- Create Towns, assign them Territories, and let mayors divide them up into Plots on their own.
- WorldEdit backend means you can use WorldEdit CUI and all of your favorite WorldEdit commands to create regions of any size and shape
- WorldGuard backend means lightning-fast performance and rock-solid stability
- Mayors can restrict town membership to only people they invite, or open it up to anyone who can afford a plot
- Saves you time and reduces the workload on your moderators!
- Mayors can manage regions within Territories that have been assigned to them
- No need to ask a mod every time someone wants to join your town, or you need a new plot created.

Metrics Collection
MCTowns tracks some stats about who uses it. They're primarily for me to feel good about myself when I see people are actually using what I make, or (in the case of bug reports) are so that I can improve the plugin so that I can continue to feel good about myself when I see people are using the plugin.
MCTowns uses MCStats. To learn what is collected and how to opt-out of collection, see the following official MCStats page:

Note that as of v2.1.0, most bugs will be automatically reported for you. See the page on Automatic Bug Reporting for more information.

About this plugin vs towny plots:
I've personally never played around with Towny too much. I think we had it installed on our temp server for a few days, before I realized that I didn't like it. So, I don't really know how Towny handles their plots too specifically.
For MCTowns, a clean, freshly-made plot will have all the properties of a default WorldGuard region. So, assuming you didn't mess with what a default WorldGuard region is, a plot will have these "permissions":
Most, if not all, of the above permissions can be altered by messing with the flags on the region. Check out WorldGuard's list of flags. Since MCTown's flag support is simply a "wrapper" for the actual flagging process, it is safe to flag regions with the default WorldGuard commands or use the flagging commands that MCTowns provides.
@jhs232
I assume the problem will be fixed. I hope the problem will be fixed; but I'm not sure, hence my wanting you to open a ticket if it does not work.
I can't guarantee you won't lose things when upgrading to 1.2.3 overall. I can say that you will likely not lose MCTowns data. I try to make it so that you don't lose data, because if you lose data then that means I lost data too, on my own server. So yeah, backups are always good.
I won't use the word "guarantee" here, because I can't and won't guarantee it, legally or otherwise. Mostly because this entire project is a "best-effort" deal in terms of quality- I do my best and work my hardest to ensure that everything works as it should, but if it doesn't, you won't get much more than my sincere apologies and a promise to fix it as soon as I can. Mostly because I don't really have much more to give. =)
Is this plugin similar to towny about plots? If I have bought a plot can i then do so non-admins cant open doors and chests and such? And can i set mobs not to spawn in a city, and do so playerw are unable to grief claimed land and destroy my plot? And the last question will explosions be on in the claimed land ? /jhs232
If i downgrade to 1.1, then the problem would be fixed? And i wouldn't loose any work when i upgrade to 1.2.3? /jhs232
@jhs232
If you are using a 1.2 beta version of craftbukkit, then I am aware of your bug and it is already reported here.
If you are using the 1.1R6 Recommended Build, then please comment here regarding your setup (CB version, MCTowns version, etc).
Yes I did, and i am sry i forgot to post that i got it working; EXCEPT that when i have set a plot for sale, the sign i build is blank, and my friend cant buy the plot. Can you help me with that? And when i put a plot for sale for ex. 1000 then it is 1000 iConomy Dollars? /jhs232 P.S. Your plugin is WAY better than Towny!
@jhs232
If you can say yes to all three of these things, and the economy is still not working, please open a ticket.
Does this plugin support iConomy? I use iConomy and it says that "Economy is not enabled" Any help? /jhs232
Does it use chunks or cuboid? Can't really find how to define the size of a plot or a town.
@jhs232
When a recommended build is released.
When will the plugin be upgraded for minecraft 1.2.3?
@jhs232
Nope. Towny is a much larger project than MCTowns is right now, just because it's much older. I'm planning on adding a lot of PvP support with the next full release version.
As for chat, I will probably never let MCTowns extend to chat. I'm really not a fan of "all in one" plugins, mostly because they all just end up re-inventing the wheel for any of the areas that the plugin doesn't "specialize" in. Towny, if you like the manner in which it works, is great when it comes to managing towns. However, it is not great at handling chat or handling anti-cheating measures.
The chat-modification is intrusive and, if you don't want your server to be a "Towny" server, you basically just have to turn it completely off. It's also not as extensible or sophisticated of a solution as plugins that only concentrate on chat, like HeroChat. Same with Towny's no-cheat feature. I'm not even certain why it's in there- If I wanted a chunk-region-based town management system, I would use Towny. I would not use Towny if I wanted a NoCheat plugin because, guess what, Towny shouldn't be an anti-cheating plugin. It's bloat and their implementations will almost by nature be less elegant than plugin who only seek to focus on that one area.
Plugins should be compatible and focused on solving one specific problem. If you want a metaphor, think of it like this: say you have a small cut on your hand. You go to the store to buy bandages to fix it. Would you buy an entire first-aid kit, or just a box of bandages?
TLDR: Plugins that try to do too much that's outside of the main problem that they hope to fix get bloated and, if you end up wanting to JUST use the plugin for that main purpose, you end up having to pore over fucktons of config files just to figure out what all you need to turn off to make sure that you didn't accidentally leave their "let mushrooms grow 10x as fast and on anything" option on and you're then confused later as to why your entire map is a druggie's paradise.
TLDR of the TLDR: Chat is outside of the scope of this plugin, so I will not be implementing it.
Ok, thanks for your help! Is this plugin similar to towny with alliance, enemy and neutral commands? And can you use town/territory/district/plot chat? /jhs232
@jhs232
Oh I understand your question now.
If you ever need to find a command, try using CTRL+F to search through the wiki page of all commands:
https://github.com/Everdras/MCTowns/wiki/CLI-Commands-List-(Comprehensive)
You said that your plugin was made for large cities. On my server there are a large city and several small ones. so this plugin seems to be the perfect plugin for me. I would just like you to know that i think this plugin and not tiwny should be the most popular town plugin. but could post the command you need to use to make a plot after you have made a town, a territory and a district? thanks /jhs232
i am glad to hear that you need a WE selection to kake a plot. But there must be a command to make a plot after you have made a town, a territory and and a district. I have a town on my server, and i want to sell some of the houses, and i understood that plugin is like towny, because people can buy plots. But i dont wanna make a plot before i have made city, i just wanna make a lot of plots in my district. do you know what i mean? anyway thanks for helping me! /Jhs232
@jhs232
I believe that attempting to define a plot without a WE region selected will tell you to select one.
As for "Just making a plot," that's not really possible. That's like saying "just let me make a floor in a building!"
Okay, I can let you make a floor in the building, but it won't be very useful. You won't know what the building name is, where it is, what floor you just made, what the floors above and below it are, etc.
In the same way, a Plot isn't really useful for the purposes of a Town without a Town to belong in. Without a Territory or District around it, it's also a lot less flexible and scalable.
I know that it's a little annoying to have to select Territories and Districts when you only have one of each and only want the plots, but I will admit, very small towns like that are not the focus of this plugin. MCTowns is aimed for large towns on large servers. I may, after the full release of the plugin, add in support for Villages or something smaller scale, but for now, just bear with it.
i didnt quite understand how you made a plot. can you write specified command for making a plot, and please say that you need a WE region selected, since i will only choose this plugin and not towny because this plugin uses WE! thanks for help /jhs232
@sbl03
Yes.
And no, that's not on purpose. Make sure you're using the latest versions of WorldGuard and WorldEdit, I think that solved that problem for the last person who had that issue.
I like how this plugin uses the WorldGuard regions, but do you HAVE to create a town, territory, and district in order to create a plot?? (I guess it doesn't matter that much since the territories/districts could be the plots)
Second thing, when you remove a town, is it in purpose that the territories, etc within the town don't get removed?
Thanks!
