M.C.Skiller
M.C.Skiller
M.C.Skiller is a project, I am beginning on which aims to rival plugins such as MCMMO. It will feature similar skills, but add several new skills, and shed an entirely new light on Minecraft survival gameplay. It will focus heavily on combat, for both PVP and PVE, however it will still retain the more passive skills, so as to please everyone.
What I need
- I need a mathematician - someone who is good with numbers and can come up with formulas to ensure that the skills are balanced and won't ruin gameplay. Note that there is no pay, but since I make no money at all from this, I cannot really find the funds to pay anyone.
- I also need a number of testers because I don't really have the time to properly test this. You will have the advantage that you will be able to use the new releases of the plugin before everyone else, and when I get the first build out, you will receive it, at least one month before everyone else.
- Lastly, any help at all with regards to the actual coding would be much appreciated, as I can't really go at this alone.
What to expect
Thus far, I am in the process of designing what I plan to put in exactly, so watch this space as I'll be adding more and more information as time goes by.
A feature that I haven't seen in other skills plugins that I know would be very useful on RPG servers is the ability to turn off a skill or rename a skill. Also, adding a custom skill that would have no way to train it other than giving it levels via the console. Would you consider implementing any of those?
Im very good with numbers as far as setting up a rate at which to lvl on each skill based on the time it takes to do that skill. Skills such as woodcutting and fishing need to have an increased rate at which you gain exp but you just need to use how much exp it takes to lvl each lvl whether you want the lvls equal to a certain lvl and increase it by 2% each level after that or so on and so forth.
I have ungodly amounts of free time on my hands. I can run a simple bukkit server to test this for you if you wish. As for the maths thing. Just how precise on terms of balance are you asking? I know a few people who might help if they know just how much work they would have to do.
Hey Diamond,
If you're still doing this, I can help you with coding and maybe the maths for this. Shout if you need me :)
I know math pretty well and I also can test if needed send me a pm.
I'd love to test, and if possible I'll do some math, also I know a little bit of coding (not the best and can only do very simple things, but its something) so just shoot me a pm If you need anything =D
@DiamondLemon
Sounds good then. :)
Yes feel free to send me a PM if you need help with anything.
@Samkio
I intend to make it stand out the most is that it will be balanced. In my past experience of using other plugins - I haven't tried LevelCraft - is that it's been very easy to become a super-god if you have a bit of time.
About the Maths, I believe I have a mathematician, but I would I be safe in assuming I can drop you a pm if a need a bit of help with the code?
@retricide
Sort of, I plan to remove certain features of mcMMO, such as the right click to activate special abilities(except on magic) and I will attempt to keep all the info returned from the as neat as possible. As far as performance goes, I'm not sure how mcMMO performs, but this will require a lot of listeners, but I shall do my best to keep it as light as possible.
I'd love to help test anyway I can!
One question, though: Will this be more lightweight than mcMMO? Have you considered/addressed that factor thus far into the design process?
What will make it different to other skill plugins?
What will make this stand out above the rest?
I am interested to know. :)
In other news:
I can do the Maths if you wish, and a bit of actual coding. Although i have less time now and is the reason I stopped developing LevelCraft.
Look forward to your reply.

Okay, when I get the first build out, I'll send you all a pm on here to let you know, keep in mind that it may be some time, because I would like to ensure all the maths is perfect.
This looks pretty cool, I would be glad to test.
"however it will still retain the more passive skills, so as to please everyone."
I hope caster skills won't be passive too much though ;)
I'll test.
I could do some testing for you.
