Grief Prevention
AUTOMATICALLY PREVENTS ALL FORMS OF GRIEF, including build/break, theft, spam, fire, spawn camping, lava dumping, chat trolling, advertising and more, so you don't have to undo any damage after the fact. It even teaches players how to use it so you don't have to! No configuration or database required. Stop responding to grief and prevent it instead. Grief Prevention will solve your grief problems without requiring you to manage a roster of trained administrators, juggle 10 different anti-grief plugins, take away cool standard game features, publish a training manual / tutorial for players, or add explanatory signs to your world. You can also choose to integrate PvP elements into build design to finally get a PvP experience befitting a sandbox game about creative building.
Grief Prevention stops grief before it starts automatically without any effort from administrators, and with very little (self service) effort from players. Solve all your grief problems with a single download, no database, and no configuration step.

Please Vote for Grief Prevention
I've also posted Grief Prevention on the Spigot site, where plugins are ranked based on reviews. If you love GP, please take a couple of minutes to give GP your rating and leave a short review. Better rating and positive reviews will help server owners who look for plugins on the Spigot site make the safe choice (GP) instead of downloading something sketchy or incomplete. :) Thanks so much for all your support!

@MasterMithrandir
Easily do-able in another plugin - monitor chat event, optionally hook into GP and print the corresponding message (or read the messages.yml file in the plugin itself). GP uses a hardcoded regex pattern to detect the phrase. Any plugin can do this and print a message to "add on" to the list of phrases to detect.
If you don't want to deal with regex or making a plugin, NoobResponse has been a plugin that has been working okay for me. https://dev.bukkit.org/bukkit-plugins/noobresponse/
The keywords for obtaining ingame help with a link are in english. My server is spanish, therefore these help messages only appear when someone says something in english like "claim".
Could the messages be customizable so I could just insert a few common phrases when someone wants to ask for help?
@kyanoke40
kyanoke40, I commented on the ticket you raised for this idea, but thought I'd reply here so it's clear to all you're not ignored! From my reply on the ticket:
I'm sure you're not the first to suggest this, and I think it would unbalance PvP on PvP-enabled servers, as you could stop people getting to you, rather than having to actually come up with a secure build and watch your back.
Tracking the movement of every player to see when they enter claims would likely be very expensive, too.
@kyanoke40
MasterMithrandir - my reply applies to the /claimkick suggestion part of your comment, too :)
@bigscary
bigscary,
First, I'd like to say a massive thank you for all the work you did on Grief Prevention. It's no exaggeration to say that without it, many public Minecraft servers just would not be feasible -you're right that it's a massive achievement indeed!
As I understand it, RoboMWM has already been helping with GP for some time so it's good to see it go to a safe pair of hands.
bigscary - thanks again, and I wish you the very best of luck with your indie game dev endeavours, look forward to seeing what you come up with!
Hey all! After 5 years of developing Minecraft plugins, I've finally decided to kick my game up a notch and switch to independent game development (that's right, standalone apps!). Because my free time is down to only an hour a day now, it would be impossible for me to continue maintenance on my 7 plugin projects and also make progress on anything new, so I'm transitioning all my work to other developers. RoboMWM (PC Tech Guy on BukkitDev) will take over GriefPrevention, and my premium plugin projects are 'on the market'.
Concerning GriefPrevention in particular... if you've ever suggested a feature, reported a bug, or asked for a tweak, I owe you a big high five. Together, we solved what I believe was the biggest problem in Minecraft - griefing (a.k.a. bullying). There were lots of people (including developers) who said it would be impossible to fix it all with a single plugin, let alone one that doesn't require a database or the around-the-clock support of server staff. GP is a massive achievement that took damn near all my free time for five years, but you all deserve some credit because without you, it would be much less badass today.
If you'd like to tag along on my future adventures, you can follow me on Facebook here. As I'm diving into unfamiliar waters, I dunno exactly what I can promise, but my imagination tells me I'll be sharing screenshots, videos, and demo versions of my work, and also asking for feedback and other ideas through those channels. I hope the combination of my professional software engineering skills and the free time project management / design experience I picked up from Minecraft plugins and World of Warcraft addons will add up to fun, relevant, profitable games. You'll be happy to hear that what I've earned from Minecraft via premium resource purchases and YouTube ad revenue hasn't been squandered on 'beer and pizza' or 'phat lewtz', but stashed away for future investments like buying/commissioning multimedia assets for my dream projects.
Wish me luck! I've been working hard, and now I'm using that momentum to chase the gamer dream. ;)
i have a new idea/update for the plugin you need to add that you can kick/ban players from your claim! That will be the best update ever!
Hallo ich habe ein problem und zwar will ich eine Villager weizenfarm machen blos die funktioniert nicht weil die villager weder was abbauen noch was setzten
hellp i had a problem. i want to build a villager wheat farm but they do nothing. they dont break or plat creops and wheat Pleas help me. sorry for this bad english
@bigscary
Does GP stop digging under players (So they fall or are buried in a hole) and placing water on players so they suffocate?
I think these elements should be controlled:
- Placing water near other players (Just like lava). - Surrounding players with blocks in more than 2x2 height, or even enclosing them inside confined spaces with these techniques. - Removing blocks beneath other players.
I often find complaints on Survival about pacifism not being respected.
Another suggestion: Add optional /claimkick <player> command for kicking players off from claims.
@jmask
Why do you think GP has something to do with it? Does it stop happening when you don't have GP running? I can't imagine how the two could be related.
@minecraftkid7778
Pretty sure only the claim's owner matters, not any others with trust on it. However, it depends on the settings of the server - Grief Prevention provides settings to prevent expiration of claims belonging to players with more accrued / bonus claim blocks than configurable thresholds, so server admins can prevent longer-term players from losing their claims automatically at all (and, of course, automatic expiration can be totally disabled) - so it depends on how the server admins have configured things.
If it's likely to be dropped, one of the admins on your server could transfer the claim to you with the /transferclaim command.
Hello, I have read through your post about the greifprevention plugin. The person who owns my base has gone on vacation for two months, he has been gone for a week. My server's settings give 30 days for the claim to expire. If the owner of the claim has given me trust ownership /permissiontrust, will me being active on the server keep the claim up? or if the prime owner of the claim isn't on, the claim falls regardless of me a /permissiontrust'd person being online? Thanks for reading and hopefully responding.
@bigscary
I ended up fixing it i deleted the plugin and reinstalled it but thank you so much for helping
@bigscary
There is a problem I have found between nocheatplus and griefprevention when a player tries walking on a slab, fence, chest, doors, or anyother partial one block entity they will freeze in that spot if they walk into its 1 block space. This only happens with non-op players. I can give them permission nocheatplus.* and it will stop doing that. Not knowing if I should tell them or you? They don't seem to respond.
@TeenWolf23
Hmm... any errors in your logs? What Minecraft version is your server on?
@bigscary
I thought that too but when i checked it says "No one has claimed this block. I tried claiming at level 1 to see if it would do anything just by chance to mess around but it did nothing. i tried claiming at normal ground level above the suppose already claimed land, it does say as normal that there is already a claim but it when i use the stick it doesn't show any claim at all. My players like to claim so that all they do is claim around their base at ground level and its protected, but it doesn't work. A lot of players like it so they can make underground bases then claim at ground level but their base will still be claimed without a worry. I used to do that all the time but all of a sudden it doesn't work now.
@Shaduckster
Sorry, I'll leave that to right clicking with the stick for now. :)
@TeenWolf23
It's likely that the claim is ABOVE where you're right clicking with the stick. The stick checks exactly the block you're pointing at, but trying to claim also searches above you to check for claim overlap.
@LoveLusting
Everyone has the createclaims permission by default. You'll have to take it away - ask your permissions plugin devs for the easiest way to do that with their plugin.
Hey, I need some help here with a pretty simple question,
So pretty much I want to give only certain people the ability to create claims but I can't figure out how to do that. I already have PermissionsEx installed and only one rank has the claim nodes, but it seems anyone can still make claims. How do I fix this?
I know I am not the only one with this problem but I looked for a solution on google and didn't find anything about it but with 1.8 claims seem to be weird. When you claim it shows up as claimed but when you use a stick to check the claim it says its not claimed. There are no errors in console either, it seems to be completely normal so I am assuming I am missing something in the config, how do I fix this? I use spigot 1.8.8 if that helps at all.
Help!
I want to have mob grief false but if I have it on false snow golems wont make snow! is it possible to have it on false and still have the golems make snow?
(Sorry for my bad English)
@bigscary
Thank you :) Have long wanted to I found your plugin and it's what I wanted , easy to use and versatile adjustable .
Would it be possible that the land gets displayed with a command ingame ? So for example with / claim info that appears a marker at the edges for a short time gets so you can see from the plot of land borders and know if you own the land or not .
A small feature what would I find cute :)
Otherwise I 'm really happy with the plugin
