Giant Trees
Giant Trees
Giant Trees is a plugin for adding procedurally generated giant trees to your world. Giant trees are generated in three ways:
- Giant trees are grown in creative/survival mode by planting saplings and fertilizing with bone meal
- Giant trees are summoned with a command
- Giant trees naturally grow when new forested biomes spawn
Tutorials in other languages:
Planting Giant Trees
To plant a giant tree in creative/survival mode, perform the following steps:
- Flatten a 5x5 area of dirt
- Surround an emerald block with two rings of saplings
- Fertilize a sapling with a stack of 64 bone meal
- Stand back
The type of sapling fertilized will determine the species of giant tree that grows.
Commands
To create a giant tree with a command, use the /tree-create or /gt command, followed by the name of the tree. Tree names are found in the plugin's data directory. For example, to summon a giant acacia tree, use the command
/gt tree.ACACIA
To edit the model for an existing tree, or create a new tree model, use the /tree-edit command. This command can only be used from the server console.
/tree-edit tree.ACACIA
Naturally Growing Trees
By default, Giant Trees will grow naturally in newly generated chunks in the default overworld (the world called "world"). To add giant trees to more worlds, increase the frequency of tree growth, or disable natural tree growth altogether, edit the plugin's config.yml.
Tree Species
For the beta the following species of trees can be summoned with the /gt command:
- tree.ACACIA
- tree.BIRCH
- tree.DARK_OAK
- tree.JUNGLE
- tree.OAK
- tree.SPRUCE
More tree species will be added in future releases.
Undoing Giant Trees
Trees summoned with the /gt command can be undone using WorldEdit's //undo
command. This feature is automatically enabled if WorldEdit is installed.
Making Your Own Giant Tree Species
You can make your own species of giant tree. Start by using the /tree-edit command from the server console, giving it the name of the tree you want to edit or create. (For new trees, ignore the file not found error). As an alternative, you can double-click the Giant Trees plugin .jar file to start the visual tree editor.
Design your tree using the visual tree editor. When you are done, click save and exit the visual editor. To add roots to your tree, create another tree with the same name as your tree, with .root added to the end. For example, /tree-edit tree.ACACIA.root. Root trees are rendered upside down in the world and scaled to match their tree.
Is your new tree really awesome? If so, PM me the model and I'll include it in the next version of the plugin.
Permissions
- gianttrees.create (default OP) - Allows the creation of a giant tree using the tree-create command.
- gianttrees.grow (default true) - Allows a player to grow a giant tree by fertilizing a grid of saplings.

Work on 1.19?
can i use this plugin on 1.11 version!?
Is there any luck getting this on 1.15 yet? I found one on GitHub but I'm not super savy with coding or the instructions that are given so I sadly don't understand exactly how to install it to get it on my server. This mod has always been a favorite of mine so it's sad to see that it seems to have fallen by the way side on updates
have anyone found a workaround where the leaves outside the maximum range of a log (7blocks) would decay and leave the tree looking like an inorganic shape

pls help
Hi guys, I managed to get this plugin working on 1.14.3 without generating errors.
I'm still not able to "grow" the trees with the saplings and emerald block. But they generate on exploration and I can use the commands.
I'm testing out some things to get the grow functionality but this is what i did:
- Download the 2.0.0 alpha 6 File
- start and stop the server
- Go to the config.yml file
- Replace SAPLING with OAK_SAPLING
- start the server again
Hope this work for you people.
I'll keep looking for a solution for the grow function

Tested in 1.14.4, the oak trees spawn normally but I haven't been able to find any other tree types yet. I tried spawning them with the commands but it threw an error in the console after telling me to stand back. But having it half working is still good!
finnbon at Spigot recoded the plugin for 1.13 use, but I'm not sure that he already posted it...
1.13? not sure if it works but i hope so props to the developer looks 10/10
edit: ok so not 1.13.2 compatible... server crashed as soon as i loaded a new chunk :(
1.12.2?
This was and is working in MC1.12.2 - (re. last update) - one off the first plugins I added to my server since MC1.8.
Please keep it alive - still nothing to compare with it.
MC1.13 may have a lot going for it - but without this plugin. It will be missing the giant elven woods filled with spiders I aways add.
Please can we save this historical 4 yr old plugin - please !!

So Minecraft 1.13 came out, and part of that is "The Flattening" where they separated block ids into different blocks entirely. That means parts but not all of this plugin is broken.
I do not know if naturally growing trees worked in 1.12.2 or 1.13. But I do know that if the setting is enabled in 1.13, the console gives errors of nonvalid bionmes as they renamed "swampland" to just "swamp".
Growing trees is also broken as the recipe looks for a "sapling", however as part of the flattening there is no block named "sapling" but many different blocks of "type_sapling".
Giant Trees works with commands just fine.
Welcome to the 2017's ^^
You need to use the latest GiantTrees_2.0.0-Alpha6 from Jun 15th 2016.
This version still works fine in latest spigot 1.12.1
and WorldEdit-6.1.9-Build3706
btw..
there was no wood changes since that so u can be sure it still works fine.
All you need to do is using the LATEST 1.12.1 compatible WorldEdit to be happy ;)
bukkit is dead? i dont think so, many plugins still get only updated here on bukkit page ;)
I would say that i love it if it did work on a plugin used server. As more and more plugins get tested in a life server environment, the weaklings collapse silently until console problems start spewing out errors. So, is this plugin used by you guys on a bare naked vanilla spigot server? because Bukkit is dead....
So hop into the 2017's and adjust it to spigot 1.11.2 and keep it up to date please....
what happened to the old oak and birch trees, the new ones that grow are nothing more than bushy wood poles, which is good if i was building a giants farm yard, but i liked the old version, so i could make a sort of "elven glade" that would look awsome on my servers "wilds" spawn.
LOVE IT!!!!!
Only thing I miss is a place with a database of pre-created trees for me to jut download and use...
Wouldn't happend to know of any?

Hey agent2594,
your plugin is the best plugin in this category. I love it :) It works really good! But the "Naturally Growing Trees" feature do not work :( I hope you can fix it in a newer version! And it would be really nice, if the next version is in Minecraftversion 1.11!!!
Hope you answer

(sorry for my bad english)
I consider this an essential plugin for my world/multiverse design. (Shadowbane inspired portal trees.) Thank you again for updating it in the recent past. Any chance you could mirror to spogitmc.org?
