EggCatcher
This plugin allows the players to get the new Spawn Eggs from Minecraft 1.1 by throwing regular eggs at mobs. It is intended to be simple to set up and use. The plugin is open source and can be forked on github. If you make any changes, pull requests are appreciated.

- Configurable mob health limit.
- Respects animal protection plugins such as GriefPrevention
- Compatible with all trading plugins.
- Very simple, throw an egg at a mob and it will be turned into a spawn egg.
- Permissions support.
- Configurable catch chance.
- Configurable cost (vault support, or items).
- Explosion effects.
Installation and requirements
Vault is not required unless you intend to use it
Download the jar file and the configuration file will be generated on the first startup.

@shansen1 Thank you again for replying.
I tried disabling plugins and discovered that I cannot capture animals inside GriefPrevention claims of any kind. Doesn't matter if I own the claim or not. As soon as I move outside the boundary of a claim, there are no problems.
Any Ideas on that is there maybe a config setting that could be changed in your plugin or is this a glitch or conflict?

The random horses that spawns when you use the eggs is not a bug. EggCatcher does not change the spawning from eggs so the eggs works as Mojang designed them to.
Have installed this plugin and am very impressed. However there are a few bugs which would be nice to fix:
1. The prevention of baby capturing doesn't work on villagers. This means you can capture a baby villager and spawn an adult immediately. 2. Horse eggs spawn random baby horses. As well as only spawning adults, it would be nice if it stored the horse data so you get the same horse each time.

EggCatcher is compatible with all plugins that protects the animals from getting harmed.
Does this plugin support PreciousStones? Or only GriefPrevention?

Disable UsePermissions in the configuration file and check if it works. If it works then it's a permission problem somehow. If it still doesn't work maybe there's another plugin conflicting or something. It's difficult for me to troubleshoot it as it works for me.

Permissions aren't a problem as I do not have per-world permissions on my server. Also even if I did, I am in the op list and have the * permission. Any other ideas? I still can't get it working correctly.

It Would seem that in the newest build v2.0 for bukkit 1.7.2 Villagers are unable to be catched

Check your permissions.
I have been having a strange issue with this plugin. I am unable to use it in all of my server's worlds. I can use it in my Admin world but, in the creative and default smp world I have on this server, the plugin acts like it isn't installed.

Having a blast with this plugin, but just to let anyone know that may also have some issues with the horse you may have to add eggcatcher.catch.horse to your permissions in order to allow/disallow.
I ask if maybe you would be willing to add something along the lines of eggcatcher.release.* (and proper children permissions) to disallow being able to release eggs so that we have a way to stop disallowed permission groups from being allowed to obtain and release them in other ways when they themselves are not allowed to catch certain mobs.
If it isn't too complicated it would be awesome and very useful to have instead of having to keep trying to find other plugins wasting more resources for only maybe a very small portion of its overall use.
Oooooo Nice! My server was using another catcher plugin that is a tad slow on the updates. This plugins looks very promising! My players are going to again catch monsters with love!

You could set egg catcher to only trap animals and not other mobs and make sure the bosses isn't animals. :)
I do however wonder if there is any chance of making this work on modded mobs as well.
Hello Shansen! Thank you for your work on this plugin. I've been using it for a few months now and everyone loves it.
Today I discovered a small issue, not a technical issue at all, concerning how players use EggCatcher on my server. I started using NBT editing to place named "boss" mobs on certain adventure/questing locations on my map, however recently I discovered a player using EggCatcher to simply remove the bosses in one egg throw. On each of my boss mobs I have both the name variable and the persistent variable adjusted and I was wondering if it would be possible to request a feature that would enable me to prevent the catching of mobs with either a name or a persistent setting?

What's the permission node to catch horses? I can't get it working without giving them eggcatcher.catch.* which I don't to :/
