In Courier's config its claimed that Postmen (friendly mobs) can walk towards the player with mail. That's not true anymore, due to changes in Minecraft. Currently Bukkit devs won't fix this behaviour - see the following Bukkit ticket: https://bukkit.atlassian.net/browse/BUKKIT-1358
