How it works:

Install Vault
Install the Plugin. (Drop the coloredtablist.jar file into your /plugins folder)
Choose a Permissions Node named by the color.
Example: 'coloredtablist.blue' stands for blue :)
OR set 'UserPermissions' to false in the config and choose a color-code !scroll down!
Give a User (or a Group) the specifc Permissions Node.
OR give a Group the specific Color Code in the Config
Now when the User joins he automatically gets colored in the Playerlist (press Tab).

Commands:

You can use /ctl instead of /coloredtablist

/coloredtablist help = Shows a help Page with available Commands.
/coloredtablist reload = Reloads Config and Playerlist
/coloredtablist colors = View List of Color-Codes.
/coloredtablist nick <nickname> = Changes your Name in the Tablist until you reconnect or the Server reloads.

Config Commands:

/coloredtablist set usepermissions <true/false>
/coloredtablist set usechatnames <true/false>
/coloredtablist set prefix<1> <colors>
/coloredtablist set groups <group> <prefix/suffix> <value>

Configuration:

Version: 2.1.0

#Whether or not Permissions should be used instead of Groups:
UsePermissions: true

#Whether or not Displaynames should be used 
UseChatNames: false

#If it should update a player name every 15 seconds
UpdateEvery15Seconds: true

#Write the Groups in, like here. Use "" as Prefix to dont have one. You can use Colors in Prefix using & so &4 would be red.
Groups:
    Member:
           prefix: '&e'
           suffix: '[M]'
    Admin: 
           prefix: '&a'
           suffix: '[A]'

Use them in Config with "&" instead of "#" and as Fullname in Permissions

Known Bugs:

Max 14 Characters are shown in the Tablist, longer Names are shortened to 14 (Otherwise it would show an Error because 16 Characters is max. (and we are using Colors so its 16 -2 = 14 O.o)

ColoredTablist 2.1.3 awaiting approval. That version should fix the bug with the metrics. "java.lang.NoSuchMethodError". Thanks for reporting it.

This appears to be broken with 1.9

hello, when I create or configure the groups in the config names are buggy, what's happening? can create for min config with the following groups: owner, member, vip, builder, admin .. Thanks

Its because your Name is too long or your Prefixs int he Tab are to big

The fact that you cant go above 16 characters makes this plugin useless in my own personal opinion. For example:

You're an owner and you want your name Owner in a color and bold, then your username. '&4&lOwner &4' (and your name is marshmellow)

The tab list will show: Owner Mar

Is there a way to make it so that the tablist show's the rest of my players name, it's cutting out like half of there names ?

Do you know how to get OP players to be colored? I tried all ways in permission EX but no matter what I stay white in the tab list

You should make it so chat nick stays so you do not have to set it every time you join put that in config please

Could you make a way where the tablist can have more than 16 characters? it really cuts of the names on my server! Thanks! Or does anyone know a plugin on top of this one that could help?

As soon someone talks in chat, the player's name goes last in the TAB list, and if many players talks together, the TAB list gets funky, any idea to disable this?

Konsider is right about the command it is "/coloredtablist set usechatnames true/false". The documentation is just a little out of date as it actually was usenicknames in earlier versions. This has nothing to do with "badly written plugin" or "The guy who wrote the plugin doesn't know his own commands". I couldn't reproduce the server crash when using the command. Any error logs?

Konsider then you are using the wrong colored tab list plugin as there are two with the same name...

http://dev.bukkit.org/bukkit-plugins/coloredtablist/ (This plugin)

and

http://dev.bukkit.org/bukkit-plugins/colored-tablist/ (another plugin with the same name)

If the command /coloredtablist set usenicknames false does not work for you then remove the colored tab list plugin you are using, download the first plugin, and try again.

Chsedv that's probably because bukkit isn't released for minecraft 1.8. If you are using bukkit on minecraft 1.8 then you are using a bleeding edge version that was released shortly before the bruhaha with Mojang and the DMCA Takedown requests.

You need to allow it so that we can use groups, with nicknames but WITHOUT the rank appearing before the nickname! There are not enough characters for it!

EDIT: I would be careful of using such a badly written plugin. For example, at the time of writing this, according to his Bukkit command page, use /coloredtablist set usenicknames <true/false> . This is not even the command! The guy who wrote the plugin doesn't know his own commands! It is /coloredtablist set useCHATnames <true/false> . Also, if you DO try to do this in-game... guess what? Crashes the server. Terrible.
