What is the enhancement in mind? How should it look and feel?Adding anti-advertising to prevent people posting other servers' ips
Please provide any additional information below.
Just talked with Sway over IRC. It would be awesome if you added an anti ad feature into the plugin. Everytime someone posts an url or ip the server would ping the ip/url to check if there's a mc server running. If there is then ban/kick the player. Could also add a whitelist of ips/urls that are safe to use to prevent someone being banned for posting their own server's ip
Something like this: http://dev.bukkit.org/server-mods/antiadvertising/
Thanks
Sway was discussing this with me the other day. I have been really busy in real life. I am strongly debating this. I will probably end up adding this in one of the major updates to the plugin, as in a V2.0.0
Right now I am working on a way to edit the messages the plugin uses. But I will look into adding this in time.
EDIT--
I will add this some time in the future.
As for pinging the ip/url I could see this causing major chat lag while the plugin waits for the the ping to come back.
Well, maybe only detection? I'm only suggesting the pinging because it lowers the possibility of the plugin blocking sites that don't have anything to do with minecraft to practically 0, for example google.com and also because it was done already in another plugin, so well.. it's not impossible.
However, if the pinging feature is very CPU/bandwidth intensive, you might as well leave only the ip/url detection that most anti-ad plugins have.
What I may do is just add a regex that blocks ip's and web sites, and people with a permission node cpp.allow.websites will be able to post web urls, that way you could give normal players that permission node and non-guests wont be able to paste web urls, and IPs
I have added this to my TODO list when I am less busy in school. Right now I will still keep it updated, and up-to-date with bukkit builds, but as I said major changes are on hold for now.
I have started adding this feature, and I have it working. But I am working its stabilization, and cleaning up the code before I release it. I will try to get this out for you guys before I just move to keeping it up-to-date with bukkit due to little to no free time caused by school.
Alright could you also add a way to disable it on certain cases. Like a config option saying should enable anti ad protection?
@Absolutionmc: Go
I don't see why you would want to disable it.
always would add this in-case someone does not want to use it.
