bPermissions
bPermissions
Welcome to bPermissions, a Superperms Manager for Bukkit! bPermissions focuses on being unique from the rest of the Permission managers. It's very simple to set up and use, it's lightning fast, fully featured, and has a great support team!
Some features:
- bPermissions has a gui client specifically designed to make running a server so easy that you'll forget that you ever used any other permissions plugin. Get it here!
- bPermissions has a unique command structure, never before seen in a permission manager. It's best used for adding lots of nodes to a user or group from the console or in-game, less typing!
- bPermissions has everything you would expect from a Permissions manager. Prefix and suffix support, inheritance, per-player permissions, multiworld support, promotion/demotion tracks, and even group priorities for multi-group setups.
- Note - bPermissions only defines prefixes and suffixes. You need a chat plugin such as bChatManager for them to show up in chat.
Commands
Say you have a user called 'Bob' and you want to put him in the group 'admin' and give him the prefix 'awesome'.
- /world yourmainworld - selects the world "yourmainworld"
- /user bob - selects the user "bob"
- /user setgroup admin - set bob's group as "admin"
- /user meta prefix awesome - set bob's prefix to "awesome"
You can do the same with groups!
- /world yourmainworld - again, selects the world
- /group admin - selects the group "admin"
- /group addgroup moderator - makes the admin group inherit from the moderator group
- /group meta prefix &c[Admin] - sets the admin prefix to "&c[Admin]"
Some other commands are as follows
- /permissions (or /bperms,/bp,/p) - general commands for bPermissions are prefixed by this
- /permissions import pex - import a pex permissions.yml in the pex folder
- /permissions reload - reloads your bPermissions files
- /permissions save - if auto-save is false, this saves your perms
- /permissions backup - backup your permissions
- /permissions helpme - for the lazy among you, this spews out some basic permissions files into your folder.
In order to use these commands, you'll need the permissions node bPermissions.admin
For configurable /promote and /demote tracks, you'll want to use permissions tracks. To read about those, visit this page
Want more commands? We have some others over on the commands page. Check 'em out!
Editing Files
bPermissions creates per world groups.yml and users.yml files in the bPermissions folder, which allow you to configure permissions on a per world basis.
Because bPermissions was designed to be configured largely via commands, bPermissions will often overwrite changes to these files especially if you /reload or restart the server.
If you've edited the files, you MUST use /permissions reload to load the modified files into the server, otherwise the permissions changes won't apply. Because a standard /reload unloads all plugins like a server stop, we cannot tell the difference between them and this will overwrite changes to your files with whatever the server last stored.
World mirroring
Worlds are mirrored like so:
world_mirroring_to: world_mirroring_from world_nether: world world_the_end: world
This duplicates the whole config for that world. Currently there's no way to have just the users or the groups mirrored, stay tuned for an update that adds this!
bPermissions and EssentialsChat
Allow me to put this issue to bed. Essentials Chat + bPermissions works for prefix and color.
This guide is for current users of EssentialsChat and want to use bPermissions along with it.
Players have colored rank prefixes and faction chat modes are also colored. All text can be colored by the players too using color codes such as &c.
bPermissions\world\groups.yml ( code snippet )
default: default groups: ## Peasant ## default: permissions: - group.default - group.userannouncer - group.userauction groups: - userannouncer - userauction meta: priority: '100' ## Citizen ## rank1: permissions: - group.default - group.rank1 groups: - default meta: priority: '200'
It has nothing configured for prefix but the group names are important (default, rank1)
Essentials\config.yml ( Code Snippet )
change-displayname: true #add-prefix-suffix: false player-commands: - chat.color - chat.format - chat.shout - chat.question chat: radius: 0 group-formats: default: '&8&lPeasant &r&8{DISPLAYNAME}&7:&r {MESSAGE}' rank1: '&8&lCitizen &r&7{DISPLAYNAME}&7:&r {MESSAGE}' moderator: '&e&l[Mod] &r&3{DISPLAYNAME}&7:&r {MESSAGE}' admin: '&c&l[Admin] &r&e{DISPLAYNAME}&7:&r {MESSAGE}'
Please direct all other Essentials support to their official support networks.
How do I get support?
First, we highly recommend you go read the FAQ page. If the answer isn't there, there's a few options of support.
- Visit the #bananacode irc channel on irc.esper.net. Just head there, as your question, and wait for someone to help you. It might be a while before you get an answer, so be patient!
- You can file a ticket. This is recommended if you don't have the time to hang around in the IRC or you have a bug report. Be prepared to check back to the ticket though, and make sure you attach your bPermissions groups and users yml files to the ticket.
- Comment on the bPermissions main page.
Note that as there's only one (slightly inactive) maintainer at the moment, any support queries may take some time.
However you choose to get support, "pls dont use txt spk," and make sure you use actual grammar.

Hello I am running Bpermissions and essentials eco and want to do some ingame ranks where and how would i write the config for them to cash in and rank up? I have already created the track and ranks just need to know how to tie the two together so that they need to pay game money for a next rank.
@rymate1234
So I understand this..
We're doing away with the need for the following command 'system'..
/world world
/user <username>
/user <action to perform here>
and instead we're getting..
/user <username> add permission <permission> (whatever world we're in)
?
I'll admit the need for 3 commands to perform 1 change was a bit of a hassle, and a lot of other plugins didn't exactly cooperate with bperms setup with the multiple folders/files, and often times a workaround with an alternate plugin just running the 3 commands through console could prove to be tricky, as the other plugins didn't always issue them in a way that it worked.
@mmuziek
That's because the plugin isn't saying "hey you're a console, you can't use that"..
It's just saying "you dont' have perms" because these commands can only be used by a player.
That's the plugin telling you that, it has nothing to do with bperms or a lacking permissions node for the console.
What exactly is the command you're trying to run through the console, for the essential warp?
Is it the "/warp <locationname>" command? Cause that can only be used by a player, NOT the console.. Which would be, why you're getting that message..
You cannot give a permission to a console, because a console doesn't need a permission.. EVER. If you can't run something through the console without some error message, or nothing happening, it simply just cannot be run through the console.
@MaurySJ
it will be released eventually
@mmuziek
bPermissions shouldn't affect whether the console can use a command or not, as bPermissions only deals with the permissions of a player, not the console
@sakura_blades
no really it says it doesnt have any permissions for this command.
same happens with essentials warps
it just says that it doenst have the required permissions
like its a normal player or something?
@rymate1234
that would be great !!! There a save the date estimated release??
eso seria genial!!! Hay Alguna feche estimada de lanzamiento??
Ok some news about bPermissions. I'll keep this brief
The next version will NOT be 2.10.9 - frankly these letters are getting rather ridiculous. It will be version 2.12 - this is an update I proposed waaaay back before the 2.10.x mess that never actually happened. Features are:
The commands will be reduced down to 3 main commands - /user, /group and /permissions
The new /user commands are as follows:
/user username set group/prefix/suffix/priority value in world
/user username add group/permission value in world
/user username remove/del group/permission value value in world
/user username show permissions/groups/prefix/suffix in world
Group commands will be exactly the same, except with /group
There'll also be bugfixes, of course! :D
@mmuziek
Chances are, that's just the way the plugin says "you can't use this from the console". There are quite a few plugins that don't allow many of their commands to be used from the console.
question. i am using the last version here and the console cannot execute commands from plugins. for example my chestcommands sends a console command and it says you do not have permission for this command in console? how can i add the console to the permissons list
I'm having an odd problem. I have two mirrored servers(everythings exactly the same, plugin/spigot versions too) however in the second server(only the second server) when I try to mirror my worlds permissions it glitches and strips all of the permissions away. Upon checking the files they're all still there and I'm still in the correct group according to the files. BUT when I do /perm reload it doesn't say that the worlds I tried to mirror are loaded. Un-mirroring the worlds doesn't solve this issue either. I've tested this several times now by deleting the bperms folder and retrying.
EDIT: Yes, I'm spelling the world names correctly and mirroring from the correct world. I checked in both worlds and have no permissions in either.
@Jayfixx
If group manager is so great, why are you on bperms page? :P
Also, Vault isn't useless. It's only useless if you don't intend to have a seem-less network of various plugins that can speak with one another, without hunting down plugins that are actually coded to hook into one another. That is after all what Vault was coded for, wasn't it? That bridge? That's not useless at all...
@Clubso
IF installing vault doesn't resolve your issue, which it may or may not... Many plugins want you to have vault installed to communicate with permissions plugins..
I'd suggest double checking your server version, with the version of bperms you are trying to run. The server may be registering you're trying to run it, but is unable to due to some miscommunication somewhere. Which is why I had suggested originally, Vault. Because 9/10 that is something that resolves the communication with permissions plugins.
@Jayfixx
You can _use_ permissions plugins perfectly fine without vault. bPermissions itself has no dependencies on vault. Vault is used by plugins who need to get data from any of the plugins that vault hooks into. This includes:
@sakura_blades
You can use group manager with no need for the useless Vault plugin..
@sakura_blades
I'll look into adding the users nickname into the users.yml for the next update
In the meantime, an easy way to look up a player is to just get their uuid (usually in server logs) and just do a ctrl+f for the uuid in the users.yml
@Clubso
usually if a plugin is red in the /plugins command, it means the plugin failed to load. Any chance you could pastebin your server.log?
Note to everyone - I'm pretty busy at the moment with assignments, so any updates will take Some Timeâ„¢
@abstractmadness
I agree with this 100%. I think the UUID change is great on Mojang's part, but plugins that don't support some sort of storage for display names, can be quite troublesome too.
I've had an issue where I had to go into bperms to apply a node that didn't apply properly, and well.. You can imagine the issue there trying to find the right player to add it to.
@Clubso
Vault is needed for bpermissions, or any permissions plugin, to work.
Vault is for permissions, economy and chat systems. It really kind of is a must-have for multiple reasons with multiple plugins.
Reinstall Vault, and you'll see it working.
@sakura_blades
well not any more
@sakura_blades
ye
Would it be possible in the next update to include something above or below the UUID in the "users.yml" file that displays their name? For example:
Player-UUID-Goes-Here: user: player-name-goes-here permissions: [] groups: - default
I think this would help out not only myself but a lot of other people when trying to view someones permissions or to see who a person is with a specific permission. For example someone on my server had the node [essentials.*] which I never give out and I wanted to find out who that person was/is I had to resort to using different Minecraft UUID finders online to see who that person was and after 30 minutes of searching with no luck I ended up deleting the players data all together because you cant take chances. Before when It went by the actual players name it was easier to navigate and see exactly who has what, but now it's a difficult to do that.
@Clubso
Do you have vault installed?
