BetterCombat
Combat in minecraft has always been little more then -who can click the fastest- so I'm bringing an end to click spamming with BetterCombat. With this plugin your sword or fists have to "recharge" after every hit. Also hits that aren't fully charged will not damage a player that is blocking at all. These tweaks to combat seem very simple but they have a huge effect to the gameplay. Click spamming is no longer the best way to win a fight and blocking finally has a use.

- When not fully charged the amount of damage is equal to the percentage charged
- When not fully charged attacks can be blocked
- Works for all non-ranged weapons (including fists)

Awesome. I play minecraft since 2011, and what i still hate of this game is the pvp. There is no tecnique, only " clicking faster and faster " I was searching for a mod that could make you " charge " the attacks by holding down the mouse button, but, insted, i found this! The concept is pretty similar! :)
You should update this, and maybe add something like a counter, using the status bar. When you attack, you go to level 0, then the level starts growing, showing the chargin progress!
With this plugin each attack will be well reasoned!

I'm not experiencing any of the problems you're describing. I've turned off the visual flame effect, and haven't gotten any visual particles. I'm also not sure where you're getting the "even if you attack in the air, the plugin kicks in" bug - I've "attack cooldowns" on PvE turned off, but even then, I've not encountered this problem.

You can disable it for PvE, or you can leave it on to work for both mobs and players.
Would it be possible to have cooldowns apply only when you hit a person with a certain item in hand, as opposed to any item? (And optionally, would it be possible to have different cooldowns per item?)
Does the features of this plugin work for when you are fighting mobs too or just when you are doing pvp combat?

This plugin has tons of potential. Please add a config to choose what weapons this effects (I really want to disable fists, because some other pvp plugins such as Bending use fists and thus this plugin conflicts massively with them). I love the pvp balance and if you'd add more configuration to this plugin I would use it 24/7. I recommend this plugin for all vanilla pvp servers.

Sorry for the late reply, I haven't had too much time to work on my plugins lately but if I do get a chance I'll be sure to add the option to disable the effects and crits.

The plugin should still work fine with more recent versions of bukkit and the source code is included in the jar.
Can you please update this plugin, or release the source so it can be resurrected? I'd really like to use it... Thanks.
Hey, Armarr. I am working on a new PvP-oriented server design for ChoiceCraft and I stumbled across your plugin for BetterCombat. I love the concept behind your work and I wish to use it for my server. However, I want to deviate from the original design with a few changes of my own.
I have a decent amount of experience in programming and wish to take this concept and mold it into something specific for my server in the making. I created an account for Bukkit to ask for your permission to modify the source code of BetterCombat for my own plugin. I would be more than happy to give you credit for all original work.
Could you add a feature that allows different weapons to receive different cooldown times?

Yeah shields could be interesting, don't have a lot of time on my hands to implement that though. I'll see what I can do.
I love this plugin. I think it would be much better with shields ;). ( I have some ideas for the mechanics behind shields too :D).

I tried that and it didn't work. The breath meter gets reset all the time because you are above water.
Would it be possible to use the breath bar instead of the hunger bar? Or add an option to use either.

As far as I know it still works, it only uses very basic bukkit events so it doesn't need to be updated very ofthen.

Maybe your damage is so low that it gets rounded to 0?
