Allow Lockpicking
DeathlyIceDragon will now be maintaining this plugin.
Introduction
This plugin adds the ability to pick doors, chests, furnaces, trapdoors, fence gates and dispensers with a "lock-pick" item. This plugin will not lock any of these items - it just provides players with a method to circumvent them.
In Game Usage
Players just need to be holding the lock-pick item in their hand and right click on a chest or a door to try to pick the lock. If the pick is successful, the door or chest will open.
Features
- Should work with any locking plugin (tested with LWC, Lockette, BukkitInventoryTools, Deadbolt)
- Supports permissions (allowlockpicking.canpick) - defaults to ops
- Configurable lock-pick item (allows multiple lock-picks)
- Configurable messages
- Configurable chance of success
- Option to lose lock-pick on use or just failure
- Configurable damage dealt on failure
- Teleport player to a location on failure (like Jail)
- Run a command automatically on failure (like /report)
Known Bugs
- Does not prevent other locking plugins from displaying their messages if something is supposed to be locked but the user bypasses it.
Installation
Download the jar and place the plugin into your folder. Run the server to generate the files that will let you configure the plugin.

can u add more penalties for failing to pick a lock?
this would be great on rp servers, especially those with cops n robbers :p
Looks like a great plugin :) Any chance of adding iconomy support? ie it charges a user to lock pick the block. Thanks, Anim8r
@MCBuncey
I'll add that possibility and release an update tomorrow
@Xecre
Yeah I can try and help you tomorrow, PM me your server ip
is it possible not being able to lockpick inside faction even not member of the certain faction to lockpick. It would be awesome if you add that kind of feature :D
i installed it to my server i have lockette and the percent is at 100 and my members still cant lockpick and nor can I can you help me?
can you add a feature to allow it on worlds in the config in a section like this
worlds: -world - world_nether
cause i want to make a war world and use this plugin to invade other bases
@Tauryuu
Not currently - I thought it would be kind of weird to have a locking mechanism inside a lockpicking plugin. If you'd like I can add a basic feature to make things unpickable, is this something you would want?
@rofldisney
Just taking a quick look - you need to adjust the numberoftypes to 2, since you're trying to configure two lock picks. I'll take a more in-depth look later on.
This configuration will not work, why?
Is it possible to protect LWC chests from being lockpicked?
@Bowarrow51
This seems more like something one of the RPG leveling plugins would add and hook into this plugin, but if more people request it I'll look into adding that feature.
We configured this plugin to include 5 different lockpicks. It kind of works like a skill-based system. Every kind of hoe (the tool) is a lockpick, and the better the hoe the better probability of success. e.g. wooden hoes have a 2% chance of success while diamond hoes have a 50% chance of success. I think it works well on our server.
I like it but I wish they would have to up their skill and that would both increase their success rate and allow them to take more items. At a low level if they succeed they can only take 2 slots of items weather those be stacks or single items later down the road when their skill level has increased they can take say 10 slots of items.
Thank you so much, works like a charm.
@fuzyfeet
I'll work on fixing this now, thanks for letting me know!
Edit: Added the datavalue-damagevalue option in the configuration to set the damagevalue required for the lockpick.
Thank you so much for getting this to work with BukkitInventoryTools. I do see one problem, I can't use item that need the damage value set (i.e.: Lapis Lazuli [351:4])
I'm using SpoutMats and want to make actual lockpicks for players to use.
@nighteyes604
I appreciate all of the work you have done so much, thank you! It works perfectly so far.
@Rumsfield
The file says it's awaiting approval, so here is a dropbox link where you can download the file until BukkitDev updates. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/10933866/Minecraft/AllowLockPicking.jar
@nighteyes604
Is v0.9 available for download via the curse link under Facts?
@Rumsfield
What a coincidence, just uploaded the version allowing picking in the wilderness :) . I tested it a little but I'm not very good with Factions, let me know if anything else pops up.
