Hey ladies and gents! You may notice a few new things here and there around the old BukkitDev page. We've launched the new and improved site to further integrate and match the rest of our sites. Bringing with it a multitude of improvements in speed, efficiency, and usability.
Whether you're just looking for that right plugin, or you're looking to start your own project, the process has been much improved all around.
Of course, for plugin creators, we know that this is a huge change, and our support staff is working right now to make sure that our knowledge base articles get updated as quickly as possible to provide all of the information needed to make the transition as easy as possible. At the moment, you can take a look at our "Creating Your First Project" article here.
As we adjust and get everything in the right place over the next few days, you can expect longer wait periods on file approvals. We want to make sure we don't miss anything and that the process runs as smoothly as possible.
And as always, if you have any questions or comments feel free to reach out to myself @MrFlamegoat or @CurseForge on Twitter - you can also drop us a line at cfmoderation[at]curse.com and we'll make sure we do our best to help.
Your Friendly Community Helper,
MrFlamegoat
I was enthusiastic at first with this update, but the lack of support and remaining issues 4 months later are really disappointing.
Things like missing file RSS feeds have broken many plugin update checkers and are making them throw errors in server consoles. Forums are still missing. Other people have reported issues with the text editor, it took me at least half a dozen tries to get the formatting right the other day because the editor would completely change things and mess up after clicking save. The UI feels unpolished and it's less easy to navigate than before. On the other hand, alternative sites such as Spigot keep on improving.
Many users have pointed out that hiding the new plugins or recently updated ones was a poor idea. Instead we get a listing of plugins that have either been abandoned for years (or are in a pseudo long support mode), no longer work properly on recent versions of the game or are so well-known that there is simply no point in aggressively putting them forward anyway. This is not encouraging active developers and new creative ideas. One of my plugins that had up to 2000 monthly downloads a few months before the update is only around 150 today, over 10 times less within a few months, despite still being actively developed. Similar falls can be observed on my other projects or other developers' plugins, and it keeps on getting worse.
Is there ever going to be any decent support to put this site back on track?

The purchase by Amazon is the only reason I still have hope. Amazon is like the opposite of Apache Incubator, or what I'd like to call the project graveyard. Used to be Twitch's developers couldn't figure out how to make streams work with multiple viewers. Constant buffering, dead streams, desync, you name it. But after Amazon bought it, things started to slowly improve. I wonder if this is why the faces for Curse have been silent for the past few months.
However, it has been half a year, and that old data is still gone. That little candle of hope is starting to run out of wick to keep it alight.
When you click a notification either from your email or from the notification alert system at the top of the page, it does not auto-scroll you to the comment, you just land at the top of the page. The query string from the question mark to the end of the URL is removed (maybe a mod_rewrite/htaccess redirect issue?). Example link: https://dev.bukkit.org/news/838-bukkitdev-gets-an-upgrade?comment=129
Interesting. This was working originally, but in fixing some of the redirect on our other sites we may have caused this domain to strip the comments. I'll let the guys know.
This upgrade should not have been deployed without having all measures accounted for in advance. I'm sorry but this was just poor management. Something as simple as private messages have still yet to be restored.
Something as simple as millions of records migrated from an antiquated DB and Schema to a brand new DB and Schema? I wish it were that easy :]
This is a time consuming task that requires a lot of man hours in writing the migration, running the migration, and mitigating inevitable hiccups. At the moment, dev resources are busy with some internal changes which are absolute priority. I'm hoping to have news for you guys in the near future.
I really just wish there was some sort of notice that we were all going to lose our forum posts.
I had posted all of the official tutorials and guides in the PermissionsEx forums, only to have them all vanish overnight and for an indeterminable period of time.
Recreate the posts? There's a lot of information that I'd posted over a period of time, improving the posts over the course of a couple years that I was in charge of helping people there, and I'm sure I'll never remember all of what was once posted there.
Even one day's notice before the dismantling would have given me plenty of time to get all of those irreplaceable posts into secondary storage. (This is the first time I've ever the guy in charge of something this big online, so of course I didn't think of backing that stuff up. And, really, how could anyone possibly have expected the host to wipe the information and give us absolutely no way to re-acquire it?)
"lost" for the moment - we haven't removed any data. It's all still there. The issue is man hours to migrate the data to the new platform and implement the forward facing mechanisms to retrieve and post data.
We had mission critical issues we had to address regarding security and backend requirements. The decision was made to snapshot the current environment and migrate the bare essentials to get the site back up and running.
As we've stated from the get-go, nothing has been lost. We're a bit behind on getting new updates out, but that's just because we're currently working on internal services and further migrations to our backend. Everything that makes this site crank out millions of requests a day, and it's devouring our teams time. You can't see it, but without it, the site doesn't operate.
Once we get that out of the way, we will return to feature updates and bug fixes. Priority at the moment is the backend updates.
We did a lot of spring cleaning and evaluation last year, hard decisions were made but we're getting there and once we get to the other side, I can assure you things will improve rapidly.
Big bug. When using Safari, files of machine code are downloading automatically each time a page on BukkitDev is loaded.
This is really unacceptable. 90% of the reported issues so far are still unresolved more than a month later.

Aaaand it's dead silence again.
New issues: the editor can't insert smileys and tables can no longer be added or edited.
I've been adamantly responding to emails, PM's and other contact methods as mentioned in the post above. As well as status updates and responses as I can on the forums.
I'm working on a system to help consolidate and put forward a public facing list of bugs, fixes, and the like - but until I do - contacting us via one of the official methods, again as listed above in this post, is the best way to make sure issues are seen and recorded.
Another missing feature: Issue templates.
Fix: use GitHub.
Another bug:
No e-mail notifications when tickets/issues are commented, created, ...
Estimation for fixes: 2-3 months.
Thats why the dev who works with Horses doesn't answer.... no email notifications I guess!
Worst update that Curse/Bukkit does, why you guys don't use Spigot?
Also GhostKiller, agreed.
Not quite.
We're at PAX South this weekend, I'll do a roundup when I get back on Monday and update on tickets.
A lot of plugin devs have accounts there, so we do use spigot. But, this place also still has people downloading our plugins though. Why limit your audience to just one site?
Any word on if or when the projects will be getting their forums back?
Sadly no fixes yet. How long does it take you to deploy? Months?` Are the literally no resources for this platform?` Do you even test or have a QA before you launch a version? Our customer would require us to deliver hotfixes within hours - of the same day.
The version is pretty bugged, missing features and not a single bug has been fixed, only a configuration change which I guess can be done via https://dev.bukkit.org/cp/site-settings (enable localizations)
