NPCNamer
NPCNamer is a plugin that allows players to rename or give names to NPCs.
Above, you can see a bunch of renamed wolves sitting attentively in a grassy field. This is something that is achievable with NPCNamer.

Usage
In order to rename a NPC, you require a NPC Namer item. You can craft this in a crating table with string, paper and ANY edible item. The string is to tie the name to the entity, the paper to hold the name and the food to distract the NPC. Put all of these in a crafting bench in any shape, and you will receive the following item:
Once you have this item, use the command /npcnamer <name> to attach a name to the item. After doing so, right click a NPC with the item and they will be magically renamed. You will lose the renamer.

In order to use the item and the command, you require the permission node 'npcnamer.use'
