Creation

Currently there are three main classes of circles: teleportation, transmutation, and set-circles. To activate the circles, you must draw them on the ground in redstone wire and right click in a specific place with an empty hand. In the following diagrams, the red blocks are individual redstone wires that must be placed on the ground, and the red block marked with a yellow square is the activation point where you right click. It is very important to know exactly where you need to right click for your intended effect.

Teleportation

Teleportation Diagrams

The simplest of the circles, teleportation can also be the most dangerous to the user. The base design is 5 redstone wire arranged in an x pattern on the ground. From this basic circle, you can extrapolate the sides (sides opposite one another cancel out, a good way to teleport yourself only upwards) to encode how far to teleport. Each additional redstone added to the circle teleports you 100 more meters in that direction. So if I had a circle with the north side 5 long and the east side 3 long, I would be teleported 500 meters north and 300 meters east.

Teleportation fine-tuning is also added into the circle. If you add redstone to the left at a 90 degree angle to the direction line, you can travel that many individual meters further. So if I had a teleportation circle with a 5 long line of redstone going north, and then at the end of that line, 3 redstone going west, I would be able to travel 503 meters north.

Y adjustment is also included in the circles. If you add redstone to the right at a 90 degree angle to the direction line (the opposite direction of the fine-tuning line), you can end up the number of y-adjustment redstone higher than you draw your circle at, which is useful for not getting stuck in the ground.

However, not all teleportations are 100% accurate. The accuracy of your jump depends on the distance jumped. When activating a teleportation circle, you will end up somewhere in a x by x square around your stated teleportation destination, x being the distance jumped divided by 10.

There is a set-circle you can learn that will help you determine the amount of y adjustment you want to add to your teleportation circle to keep from teleporting into the ground. The circle is 2244 and will, when linked with a teleportation circle through an arrow (see set-circle section), tell you the highest non-air block at the teleportation location (each reading will have innacuracy accounted for, so it is best to take multiple readings so you get a general sense of the height of the destination).

Micro-Circle

The micro-circle is comprised of a single redstone wire on the ground, right clicked with an empty hand. The micro circle will tell you your current level (the number at the bottom of the screen).

An additional feature of the micro-circle is the ability to activate additional circles remotely. To do this, fire an arrow into the activation block of any other circle you would like to activate at most 50 meters away from the micro-circle. When you activate the micro-circle, it will check for any arrows on redstone within 50 meters and activate whatever circles are marked in such a way.

Transmutation

Transmutation Diagrams

The transmutation circle is comprised of a square of redstone any odd number in width, with a single wire of redstone coming out the middle of the left and right sides of the circle. At the end of these wires are two blocks, one on each side of the circle. Inside the circle is the "construction area". Simply put, you choose what areas of the world to change based on the shape you build inside the construction area and how big your circle is. The side length of the volume of effect of the circle is the width of the construction area squared. The construction area works by searching for any non-air block in the construction area, and then transmuting all blocks in the world corresponding to that construction block. So if you have a 3x3 construction area and only have the bottom left block filled, then only a 3x3x3 area to your left will be transmuted.

As of version 0.3, transmutation is subject to the new block-to-energy-to-block system. In this system, every block is given a value of energy, and depending on what you transmute it into, will add energy to your store or subtract it. So you can turn gold into lead, giving you energy, or lead into gold, taking it away. "How do I know what my energy is", you ask? It is quite simply your level at the bottom of the screen. Bukkit doesn't currently have support for forcing an update of the level (which means the only way to update the level is to log out and back in), so at the completion of a transmutation event your current xp is given to you in text. If you want to get an idea of the energy values for blocks, take a look at the Equivalent Exchange Mod Wiki on Alchemical Math, which my energy conversion system is heavily based on.

Set Circles

Set Diagrams

These circles are comprised of a redstone wire activation block with 4 symbols (no more, no less), each centered 3 blocks away from the activation block to the north, south, east, and west. The symbols are of fire, water, earth, and air. The set circle is made by using different combinations of the symbols, but orientation or order doesn't matter, all that matters is the total number of each type of symbol around the circle. The circles are titled in the set circle page with the symbols used to create it. So if you used 3 fire and 1 water, the title of the circle would be 1333, no matter the orientation of the symbols around the circle. Each types of circle has a set effect and cannot be scaled up or down.

An additional feature of set circles is remote effect. If you right click on the activation block of a set circle, it will activate at that location, which is particularly dangerous for explosion-type circles. However, you can set their effects to trigger at other locations by using arrows. If you fire an arrow into the activation block of the rune, and then fire however many arrows you want out into the world, when you right click on the activation block, it will search for those arrows and trigger the effect at each arrow's location. Keep in mind, however, each arrow you use counts as using the circle once, and thus it will cost as much as the circle costs.

Set Circles have to be learned, though, before you can use them. In order to learn them, you must first summon a homunculus (enderman) and attempt to activate the set-circle you wish to learn with the homunculus in the center of it. This is best done using the set-circle 2224, which will spawn an enderman at the activation point of the circle (which you have hopefully constructed a jar around). Then it is a simple matter of changing the symbols from 2224 to whatever circle you wish to learn, and then activating the set-circle while the enderman is standing over the activation block.

Augmentation Circle Example

Some set-circles can have their effects (and their cost) be augmented by the construction of an augmentation circle around them. The augmentation circle design (which can be scaled to however big/powerful you want it to be) is shown above and will work on circles such as 2223 for a larger area of effect, and the explosion circles for more powerful explosions.

Philosopher's Stone and Human Souls

This plugin utilizes the philosopher's stone, although it is a fairly end-game item. Just like in Fullmetal Alchemist, the philosopher's stone is made of human souls. However, you can't harvest souls just by killing players normally. You must use the set-circle 2223 to do 10 hearts of damage to players in it's radius. Any players which die because of this damage will drop a fire-block, which you will need to collect. These souls (fire-blocks) can be turned straight into energy for transmutation, or you can hold off and save them up to eventually transmute a philosopher's stone. The way to accomplish both of these means is through set-circle 1233. Using set-circle 1233, it takes 64 souls (fire-blocks) to create a philospher's stone. However, if you have less than 64 souls, you can transmute them into diamonds, one soul for one diamond. If you use the circle to create a philospher's stone with 64 souls however, the circle will cost you 13824, the cost of a block of diamond. For this price and 64 souls, you will receive one transmutation circle (portal-block).

For each philospher's stone (portal-block) you have in your inventory, your cost for using all types of alchemy (set-circles, transmutation), plus your teleportation inaccuracy will be halved. So if you have one it is half price, two it is quarter price, etc. A smart person can see that once you have a philosopher's stone, you can perform tricky transmutation to get infinite energy, which is why the stone is so end game and hard to get. Whatever you do, DO NOT PLACE THE BLOCK, you will lose it forever as you cannot harvest a portal block. The portal block can be crafted back into 64 souls. Human souls can also be used as reserve health, as when you reach zero health and would normally die, a human soul is taken from your inventory and you are put back up to full health.

Human Transmutation

The set-circle 3334 is the human transmutation circle of the game. It is not a harder circle to learn than any other, but it's consequences are more drastic. Once you activate the circle, you will gain the ability to cast set-circle effects without drawing a circle. However, there is also a cost, which is the ability to craft complex items. From that point onward, you will no longer be able to use crafting tables, as they will disappear if you attempt to right-click them. In order to set the circle effect you want to happen when you cast circle-less effects, use the /setcircle command, the being the number of the circle, such as 2244. If you type in /setcircle without any numbers afterward, you will receive one flint, which is what you need to be holding in your hand to cast a circle by right clicking. You can also type in /setcircle 0 to stop effects from happening even when you right click with flint in your hand. You can cast the effects of a circle from a distance as well, at any block you aim at, as well as casting the effects at blocks nearby.

If you would like to go back to being able to craft using the crafting table again, you can activate the human transmutation circle once more, however this is the endgame for you. You will be able to craft using the crafting table once more, however you will never be able to use any type of alchemy circle again.
