BuildContest
BuildContest allows you to easily manage build contests on your server.
This plugin is still in BETA-State! All functions described below are implemented and work, but please don't be surprised if you find a bug. In that case, please let me know :)
It requires WorldGuard by sk89q. If you don't know how to use it, please refer to their page.

Setup
- Install BuildContest by dragging the BuildContest.jar - file into your plugins folder.
- Restart your server.
- Choose a place for the build contest. You can use an area in an existing world, although I recommend to use a separate world.
- Go to the BuildContest folder in your plugins folder, open the config.yml and change the world name.
- Create a new WorldGuard-Region called
__buildcontest__
(that is two _ on each side, 4 altogether) containing the whole area, from lvl 1 to 255.
- For each plot, create a region called
bw*
while*
stands for any string, i.e.bc1
,bc2
, ... WARNING: Any exiting regions in the world starting withbc
will be resettled as well! So make sure to rename those, or use a separate world.
- Type
/bc reset
and confirm with/bc yes
.
- Set the permissions. I recommend to give BuildComtest.join to everyone, BuildContest.vote to your jury, the others to Admins only.
- If the contestants play in creative mode, you should create a region above the plots with an entry-deny flag, to prevent others from stealing ideas.
- Congratulations, you are ready to start your first build contest!
Contest
After the successful setup of BuildContest, you are ready to start your first contest.
- If you haven't done it yet, type
/bc reset
to reset all plots. Everything within the region will be removed, and the plots ground will be set. Further, all plots will be surrounded with a solid bedrock wall, which will prevent others from stealing ideas.
- Activate the contest by typing
/bc activate
. User can now join with/bc join
and start building.
- If you have idle regions which are claimed but not used, you can just remove all owners (using WorldGuard commands) and the plugin will recognize them as free.
- When the contest is over, type
/bc close
. Now nobody will be able to continue building and all bedrock walls will be removed, allowing everyone to see the buildings.
- The jury can now visit each building and rate it using
/bc vote [#]
. The plugin takes any whole number between 0 and 10. Each building can only be rated once by every jury-member. If he/she votes again, the previous rating will be overwritten. To if you typed in a wrong number, just do it again with the right one.
- Once everyone is done rating, you can display the results with
/bc result
. It will show the plot name, the average points and the name of the builder.
- That's it, you may start over for the next contest :)
-Although having tested this plugin on different servers in many situations without any problems, I cannot guarantee the functionality with your individual setup, and cannot be held responsible for any loss. If you have any errors, please report them providing the complete server log of this error, as well as a list with your installed plugins and I will try to fix it.
I dont understand how to create plots and the buildcontest thing PLEASE HELP seems like a great plugin.

Hi, this is an excellent idea for a plugin as my server is Builders Paradise and it just fits lol. Anyway, after going through the setup phase when I type /bc yes I get An internal error occurred while attempting to perform this command Nothing else follows.
It hasn't gone through because there are no bedrock walls or any changes to the arena at all.
Upon opening the config.yml it has changed to only show: config: active: false And within the server console I get: [SEVERE] null
Any ideas on what's going wrong with this?

@CrazyCloakedMSC Could you please send me those reports, either per pm or pastebin link? I'll do my best to fix those.
@Builder87 I'll look into that aswell. When testing I never encounterd any simular problems, but I'll try to find the cause for that. Any additional information you could give me abert that would be appreciated :)

I had all the pre-defined regions for the users to build in for the contest, but when I reset the plots, they all shifed by two or three blocks rendering them useless and destroyed. Is this a bug? I can't use this plugin because of that. I would love to start using this plugin for my building contests!
Tons of internal errors.

Im sure theres more but I cant use it till those are fixed.

It should still be working with 1.4.6. Nevertheless I am working on an update, with some changes. The problem with autogenerated regions is, that the plugin wouldn't know where to place them and therefore maybe destroy other buildings. But I am planning a function, where you can mar one large area, and the plugin sets the rest automatically.
Consider updating? Also you should add a feature where this plugin makes a region automatically when a player rights clicks a sign or something similar to this.

I'm sorry, that was a mistake in my description. The regions should be named bc1 - bc15 , not bw as I accidentally wrote above; Sorry about that, it's fixed now.
The hight of your regions doesn't really matter to the plugin, it depends on what size you want your plots to be.

So i love the idea of the plugin but i can't get it to work. everything seems to work normally but it always tells me that all plots are claimed. i have make the full region buildcontest and bw1-bw15 all of which have no owner nor have i changed any of the flags. The world is correct aswell. should the bw1-bw15 not be height 1-256? What should i do?
